Cupcake Chronicles
United States
Приєднався 16 лис 2020
We're exploring the country in a 2020 Arctic Fox 990 truck camper on a 2005 4X4 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 diesel dually: that’s our setup. We don't know much about truck campers, but we're learning as we crisscross the United States in search of adventure.
Together we're learning about our RV black & grey water tanks, a finicky refrigerator, solar panel system, things that go bump in the night, and how to cook in a tiny space. We’re traveling, camping, hiking and hoping to toss in some backpacking too. Mountains, lakes, canyons and sunsets, we’re taking it all in from the comfort of our truck camper that we've named Cupcake.
We go where the wind will take us and hope you join the adventure. Click subscribe to get our new videos!

Is a Roadtrek Camper Van Right For You?
We're touring a Roadtrek camper van to see if it meets our needs. Is it tall enough? How difficult is it to set up the sleeping berth? As previous campervan owners, we have definite opinions about what works and what's just "fluff."

We have a Roadtrek, and that doesn’t look like a Roadtrek????
🤷🏻♀️ I’m just going by what the sign and the side of the van said. Here’s a link roadtrek.com/models/2024-play-slumber/
@@CupcakeChroniclesTC holy cow! That is so different! Obviously huge changes since the company was sold. I learned something new today! Thank you for the link.
@@leslie-annepepin8927 You’re welcome for the link. Honestly, I needed to verify it too. 🤣
Nice ride !
It’s so pretty in Canada!
Bring it on 😅 I love it
It’s quite the view!!
I asked a meteorologist what it means when white sticky stuff falls from the sky and he said that that just means that the Lord is coming😊
All the allergies! 🤧🤣
Morris Town!!
I can’t remember the name so glad you recognized it. 🤣
Gorgeous. Safe travels.
Thanks. We’re having a great time!
Welcome to America's hat!
Haha. It’s quite a gorgeous hat!!
@@CupcakeChroniclesTC as a resident of the hat I definitely agree
@@abstractplayer8004 To be honest, we didn’t love waking up to snow this morning! 🤣 But it was beautiful and we drove to sunshine 🌞
😂😭 I hope they let him keep them
Sadly he had to turn them in. 🤣🤣🤣
My husband and I just bought a 44ft 5 wheel toy hauler just to also have us this moment you so clearly have in this UA-cam short. Good for you my guy! Hope to see you on the road!
It’s a darn good life! Congrats on the new RV! Hope to see you out here too.
I'm going on my vacation I'm going to the wood's
No place I’d rather be!!
Not for large overweight people.
Or tall people!
Like the van but not the tent part. Wouldn’t work in grizzly country.
It would certainly limit where you could stay!
Taco Tuesday!!!
I’d eat these every day to be honest!
No, not even in backwards ass hick states like Tennessee or Kentucky, do they allow human habitation in these ...
Looking good. Glad you changed your view about all the screwing. Velcro is overrated sometimes. Have fun and stock up on vinegar for the next one. Cheers!
I’m glad he changed his mind too! 🤣Velcro just wasn’t strong enough.
The government won't allow it then rather see you homeless
It’s allowed in quite a lot of places. You’d be surprised!
To small
It is definitely small!!
Graceland will build using 2x6, with proper headers, wrap the building, put in hurricane straps, plumbing and electrical or they can build out as a cabin. It's all extra cost, depending on what your willing to pay. I have looked at many different types of these buildings. I can't put a traditional home or even a mobile home on my raw land because of a gate that's to narrow which is also state owned, and distance for the contractors to get there is just to much. So it will be a building like this with some up grades and we will finish it out.
It seems like Graceland is very high quality. We were super impressed by the 2x6 construction. Good luck with your build!!
Looks great!
Thanks. It’s so much more functional!
You should put a mirror on the ceiling of the cab-over. Or use Reflectix!
Haha. Now why didn’t we think of that??
I'd probably install some of those small plastic circle vents maybe on the bed side of those cabinets just to keep the air moving in some of those cabinets. I dislike that hanging cab right past the fridge too. Currently use it to hang rain jackets and at the bottom found a flexible square laundry basket at wally world that fits right down in there. I may do a shelf or two tho
@@ToddStull putting vents is a great idea. Any recommendations if you’ve done it yet? Yeah that fridge cabinet was so much wasted space for us. We don’t hang anything. We did put command hooks on our bathroom door for hanging coats in winter. But we don’t have any hanging clothes.
That's not camping nude. It's for a bunch of yuppies
May you cover up the license? One your truck 😅
Why would that matter?!
I guess we could but I’m not sure why?
@@johns3241 I was wondering why too? Maybe it’s a safety issue?
Some people could track down your car and something might happen I’m just trying to give a nice warning 😊
@@Pigs306 thank you. We appreciate you taking care of us.
No.😅
It is sure small!!
Yum Yum
So tasty!!
What the?! 🤣🤦🏼♀️
😂😂😂
😮
It’s not for everyone 🤣
I like all the nucamp stuff. There's a dealer not far from me that sells it. They had a real nice airstream style trailer for awhile that they stopped making. As mentioned though,, they're prices have gone sky high. Their new 920 truck camper is like 94k. You're on to something tho. 38 thousand dollars is way too much for a weekend camper but on the flipside, it's a very low introductory price to delve into becoming a cat-lady... 🤷♂️😂
We love their products too. We took a hard look at their truck campers in 2020 when we got Cupcake. And they were in our top selection. But then we went back to look again and it was a warm day. Unfortunately it smelled like plastics and whatever else off gassing in there. We both felt overwhelmed by the smell and knew we didn’t want the “breaking in” period with that strong smell. Crazy cat lady in a camper though?? It’s maybe going to catch on as the new thing! 🤣🤣
@CupcakeChroniclesTC I saw on their re-release of the 920 they are now making everything electric to the point where they still added a propane tank that would never get used unless you wanted it for an outdoor grill.... very stupid if you ask me. You're either going all electric or not, make up your mind because that could be space to add another 19 batteries. I can deal with a 12v fridge and a little extra solar if I have too but I won't go without a gas stove, heat and a gas water heater... the electric-tankless water heaters are a no-go for me. I've installed them before in houses, and those things need constant maintenance with flushing. Campground water generally sucks and can gum up all the components. More complaints have been popping up with them, so I think many are realizing that the old school 6 or 10 gal water heater is tried and true.
@@ToddStull that doesn’t sound like a good use of space to have a tank the camper itself won’t use. We also like having the gas stove and heater. It’s nicer for boondocking, so we don’t have to use solar power for everything. That’s interesting about the tankless water heater, I hadn’t given a lot of thought to the quality of water that would go through it. And it’s definitely something you can’t control at campgrounds. The water filter only gets us so far.
Checking out the poison oak patch.
Haha. That’s always worrisome!
I bought my 2016 Arctic Fox 1150 Camper for 23 used in 2019. I put about 10K in solar which includes the labor cost and consists of 6 Battle Born 100's, about 1200 watts of solar and a Victron 3000 inverter. I do have a generator, but, barely use it. The camper is huge for just me, but, I love it. I can't imagine getting a new one. But, thanks for the looks.
Dang! That’s an impressive amount of solar! We can see why you rarely need a generator. The 1150 has a huge amount of space too. Sounds like a great setup. Let’s go camping sometime!
@@CupcakeChroniclesTC Sounds like fun, but, it smells a little fishy to me. 🙂 It would be my honour.
@@jellybean7253 we’re always up for hanging with new truck camper folks!
Control your woman sir!🤣🤣
Haha. They just look so vulgar. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm with Noelle. I worked in an oyster bar 50 years ago and fell in love with an oyster platter with just a little lemon and/or tobasco, Smoked oysters and Oysters Rockefeller. Yum. Looks like fun
We had such a fun time. And once clean, these were delicious. I’d love working in an oyster bar. Pay me in seafood 🤣🤣. Steve probably not so much.
I need to know!
We’ll tell all. 🤣🤣
Nice
Thanks. It’s a comfortable mattress. Quite an improvement from the stock one.
Family first. Hope ur doing ok.
Thanks. On the 1st, Steve said he couldn’t believe his dad has been gone five months now. We’re finding our balance again but it’s still surreal.
Hi guys, I've fallen behind. Gonna catch up tonight. Very exciting.
Woo hoo! Welcome back! ♥️
The lawn mower and what not could be comfortable here .
I think it could be very comfortable.
Would have to put in some walls 🧱 but yeah loads of space for two people to live
It’s nice to configure it how you want.
Hi there! I have a few questions as im looking to install some solar panels. First, did you add the inverter because the power from your panels was greater than the factoy inverter? Second, at any point did you use the factory plug in from the roof? The second question will lead to more. Thanks in advance.
The 2020 990 didn’t have an inverter, so we added one. I used the factory plug from the roof when we had a single 100W panel. The factory solar wiring is only good to (don’t quote me) about 280W. I capped the plug on the roof, and disconnected the factory wiring at the house battery bank.
Ok, im going to dig a little deeper here. I have a portable solar panel that when camping id like to connect it up on the roof. that way i don't have to worry about the kids damaging them. The solar panels have the controller that tells you battery info, Ah etc. okay, so, when plugging the cables to the battery, i show no power from the batteries to the cables that normally connect to the controller. Is there a breaker, fuse thats keeping power going from the batteries to those cables? My ultimate goal is to directly connect wires from the solar plug on the roof to the battery since my portable solar panels have the controller.
Great Informative Video. Thank You For Sharing 😀
It’s not as fun as a Mexican buffet though! ♥️
@@CupcakeChroniclesTC 😀
It always scares me a little when we do this🫣
It scares me too. Did you see how close that front jack was to the tire? It didn’t look right to me and then when I lowered the camper into the truck, that jack scooted over. 😬 I think we got lucky.
Great Mooch summary. I found the 30 amps plug at my brother-in-law had reversed polarity and also found an open ground in 2 plugs inside the home. ( With simple plug tester ). An electrician came by and fixed it all. They had been using the outside plug for their own camper ( Older R-Pod ) with no ill effect, but I was not willing to plug in our new Lance 960. Better safe than sorry. Take care.
Dang! We always check first too. Sounds like it’s a good thing you did too! I’m glad they got it fixed without damage to their property.
This is like a great informational video to send your new friends before crashing their driveway 😂 On a side note, I always put the cord on the ground and don't let it cross over (cord over cord)... that way if it catches on fire it won't be able to reignite over itself and be able to travel quicker. Just my own little paranoyance. I think that mainly came from older campers where the cord was attached inside the small hatch door. Dealers would tell people to pull the whole cord out when plugging in.
Haha. That’s a great idea. By the way, new friend…😂 Good info on the cords. Fire in here is a real concern. Especially after our friends’ experience with their truck camper burning down.
You seem like very conscientious guests. That goes a long ways with most people. I've had guests who were completely oblivious to common courtesies.
We sure try to remember that even in our kids’ homes we’re changing their regular flow. So we try to be aware and respectful. 😁
Beautifully built, …it deserves a better roof than tin !
They used good construction.
Yup, but pls walk around it and not under it.
That’s probably wiser. 😁
That's a nice looking camper setup. 👍👌♥️
Thanks! It’s working great for us!
They should change it to the pullout that Brinkley does for the pantry. I also have a 990. Wish we had that closet on the riverside of bed rear. Mine has a tv there.
I haven’t seen that pantry. But ours in the 990 isn’t great. It looks like it will be. But isn’t. I’ve seen some re-dos in FB groups and we’ve talked about changing it but it’s hard with all our wood working tools in storage. It works but not as well as you know it could. 🤣
Nice bro 🔥
Thanks. It’s a good setup for us!
Absolutely!!!
We probably could too!
Music studio 🎙
That would be a great idea!
