I agree with you. They had great potential with the actors and actresses involved and the foundation of the story, which could've been a lot better. But it missed the mark overall. And I certainly failed to understand what the big take away or what the message was that the movie and story was trying to convey to the audience. From what I read, production was a big mess, to the point of Brad Pitt threatening to walk away from this movie and only finishing because the director and producers threatened to sue him if he did that. Very dissapointing movie/film.

It taking a long time for the big battle to start is such a post modern, today zero attention span comment. This was the 50s where people could wait through hours of stuff: basically liking to watch exotic things and costume drama, usually as in this case subtropical or tropical or some kindof exotic locale and costume, for long periods of time. Nor, is really any minute of the movie wasted. The movie starts with hercules becoming aware the seven against thebes is occuring: eteocles is feuding with polyneices for the theban crown, which just so happens to be hercules' city. promising oedipus their father that he will try to broker a treaty, hercules drinks the waters of forgetfulness, and then is captured by omphale, in a sequence which admittedly has flaws such as why does she happen to have this fountain in the middle of bitoitia near thebes and no one notices, and etc, though asking these questions of myths and fantasy worlds, is somewhat stupid. He's kidnapped by her, only to realise later he has been, espcapes with the help of his friends from the previous adventure, and then goes to fight int he war of the 7 against thebes. the insanity of both brothers is delt with in that they kill eachother in a duel. When the argives decide to attack anyway, hercules leads his people cleansed of their evil king and now nominally under creon, a good guy counsellor dude here, to victory, which is a route of the argivian forces. Also, the middle part with Omphale does seem like a different plot or movie, however, it is not. It is an episode which is like the Amazons kidnapping and drugging them in the first movie and provides an evil queen, although in the real myth, the Iole episode occurs I believe after Hercules leaves the argo in search of Hylas. These were written for people who have some interest in the source material or some interest in this genre of exotic adventure film, like Tarzan or King Solomon's Mines. Like in Haggard's She, the evil queen is a definite staple of these adventures, very often having a relationship with the main usually male protagonist. Understanding the genre and the stories it is based on will help appreciate this and other movies like it.

So strange. Oppenheimer, Nolan and Downey have won every award so far. If any of them lost it would be a major shock, especially Nolan. You want them to win. Everyone else is predicting that they win. Yet you seem to feel strongly about Poor Things' chances at stealing all its thunder. Even the biggest fans of that film don't think it has a shot outside of Actress, Production Design and Costume Design, and none of those are close to being a sure thing. Strangely enough you still went with Oppenheimer for Actor, a category that you should be a little more worried about. Murphy still has a good shot at winning but is not a lock. Barbie has a very small shot at playing spoiler for Picture and Supporting Actor but most likely Oppenheimer wins at least 8 Oscars. Barbie will win 4 at the most, and if everyone loves The Holdovers it could sneak away with 3. Nothing else wins more than one, and it's probably down to Best Actress determining whether it's Poor Things or Killers of the Flower Moon going home empty handed.

At least we know what Arabic is but we’ll never know what you are with the poor Euro-accent trying to sound American with throwing curse words here and there only ending up with an embarrassment that manages to surpass what you’re describing. This is a Joseph Losey film and so you may be better off leaving the review to someone who k owes what that is.

I don't agree. There are a lot of hilarious moments in it, simply visible, but also in a more hided way. For instance when the monk runs after the girl and so on. But the main theme is blaming the "godfather" of the school step by step into a criminal in each aspect of his life. And that's with joy in a rather sadistic manner. I love this movie 😂

"Is this the first movie to use cocaine?" No, there are uses of cocaine in silent movies from the 1920s. The most memorable example I can think of is "Dr Mabuse: The Gambler", a Fritz Lang german film from 1922. It's 4 hours long but it's much more entertaining than Novecento and more elegant. It's like a serial but it's not a serial, and it's very entertaining. It's about a master super-criminal, the efforts of everyone to stop him and how he ultimately dooms himself. The sequel from 1931 is more known because of its use of sound, but I like the original more. Anyway, when people enter a clandestine nightclub in Dr. Mabuse, the waiter asks them "Cards or cocaine?" It's great, hahaha. I believe there's also use of cocaine by the title character in "The Mark of Zorro", also from 1922.

I didn't think it was as good as the first film, but wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, judging by the tone of your review. I don't believe it was goofy, either. It wasn't a masterpiece; it was a fairly enjoyable film; at the risk of sounding contradictory, it WAS a disappointment when juxtaposed with the first film. Then again, I am the person who THOROUGHLY enjoyed the universally derided "DAREDEVIL" film starring Ben Affleck. Either way, I enjoyed your review, sir.
