    That’s what I call photography, a master plans and paints his scene before pressing the shutter I can’t tell you how much you have inspired me today. Your photos are exactly how I envisioned my project I am working on of my village in Northern Spain. I have some fantastic light across all the seasons and I’ve been scouting out locations and lighting structures for over 6 months with the help of a sunset/sunrise app on my mobile phone and never ever thought of using artificial light. I could have saved myself 6 months if I had seen your work earlier. But hey we all learn along the way right. I calculate my project will take roughly 2 years from planning to scanning. When I have finished I will send you a book. Thank you so much for helping me visualize my dream. I have been working in photography since the 80’s but stopped 25 years ago due to starting a family my idea was always to return to my first love. After losing my daughter in August last year I returned as therapy to deal with the loss. I don’t think you understand the magnitude of your videos in helping me and my family on the whole please keep providing content because the community needs artists like yourself.

    I’m doing a project about the small village I live in Northern Spain and this Video has given some ideas on how to make the project different those close ups of flowers with flash definitely work. Apart from the usual 5x4 and medium format landscape and portrait shots. Great inspirational video. Your latest video brought me here.

    I only saw the Ozarks in the title and I was on this video like a fly on shit. It’s one of the places in the USA I had planned to take my 5x4 camera and report on. The first photo is so inspiring the colour are absolutely fantastic. I think you’ve captured that particular spot extremely well your choice of format as well please please please publish a book and definitely take more photos this has really inspired me I have subscribed. Northern Spain in the house.

    Nice to see the mistakes. Most of us make them. They don't set me back at all, in a way they give me purpose- now I get to go back and do it again.

    Really enjoyed tagging along for some large format photography in the Ozarks Kenny. I'm glad I found your channel. I've been watching large format photographers on youtube for a while but haven't seen anyone in the Ozarks doing it. So it's great to see someone from my neck of the woods working with the medium. I've been a bit bored with digital photography for some time now and recently picked up a Yashica D medium format TLR. I'm really enjoying using it, and the resolution of the medium format images is awesome. I can see myself working up to large format at some point. Cheers.

      @@kennyhurtado Welcome to the Ozarks! I grew up in southern Arkansas, moved up to NWA, then over to Colorado for a while and I'm back in NWA. It was a bit difficult for me to get back into photography after moving way from Colorado. Not that there aren't beautiful landscapes to photograph in Arkansas, but I needed to shift my perspective a bit to be inspired. I definitely still miss the variability of weather and terrain that I got used to in Colorado though. How was your experience moving here from California?

    Interesting video and good photography. I was shooting up at Sam's Throne about a month ago. I'm using a Fujifilm GFX50R these days, love that camera. I love this area, last year we built a cabin on hwy 7 just 2 miles north of the Lurton hwy 123 intersection. I would recommend two books by Tim Ernst, Arkansas Waterfalls and Buffalo River Hiking Trails. These both have detailed maps and good information. Tim has a gallery just west of Jasper Arkansas. Over the last 50 years he has had 5 photography books published and had photographs in National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer and others. Best wishes.

    Hi Kenny, looks like you’re having similar weather to me up here in northern Illinois. Blue skies are generally tough when we’re trying to do the broader landscape images and that often spurs me to look for intimate detail photos. Wild flowers are not too abundant where I am so I often look for the more common plants and grasses with the intent of presenting them in an uncommon way. Your flash usage might be a good way to change that up for my future work. I’ve been considering the purchase of a Godox AD200 strobe as it is compact, lightweight and powerful. Your work has moved me closer to making that purchase. Keep up the great work and I hope to see more videos of your experiments. Be well and good shooting to you sir. Cheers! 😀👍🍻🍺

      Thanks for watching buddy! Yeh a strobe opens up a lot more possibilities. I had the godox at one time. Loved the light quality but the power pack fried on me. Off camera flashes work really well also. Best of luck!

    Hi Kenny. Nice video. I just spent the winter in Central Arkansas. Spent most of my time in the Ouachitas/Ozarks as well as Heber Springs area. The hike to the falls in your video, (I'll leave it unnamed), was the last hike I did before I had to get on the road. Unfortunately, I didn't get a really nice capture like you. It was a traffic jam of people. Really cool to see another Pentax shooter anywhere, let alone, in a spot I was just at a month ago. Great work. Look forward to more of your content in the future. ✌️-Jason.

    I too like to scout out locations while running. I just made my first 4 4x5 exposures this last weekend and now must wait a week for the lab... brutal. I also paid to have them scanned, which ended up being over $50 for the 4 sheets in total - including developing, which may be junk. Lol. It does seem like the scanning is the most difficult part here. I've heard people mention Negative Lab Pro for Lightroom if you're able to at least get the negative into the digital world. Maybe contact prints as an intermediate solution?

    • @kennyhurtado
      @kennyhurtado Рік тому

      Yeh, its pricey. Ive resorted back to medium format digital. Going to Save 4x5 for special projects. Nothing better than 4x5 photography. Enjoy the process!

    Kenny, I’ve watched a few of your videos and want to encourage you to continue your wonderful work. I think your images are very nicely done. I have one observation that I find a bit puzzling. I started large format photography in the mid-1970s. I’ve never seen anyone put the white side in and black side out of the focusing cloth. The way my photographer friends and I have always used ours is white side out to reflect the heat of the sun and black side in to reduce light as much as possible. Have I missed something? Is this something new, technique wise? Is there an advantage that I’m not understanding? If you haven’t tried this, I have a suggestion. We would sew small weights into the four corners of the focusing cloth to reduce the wind’s effect. The weights made the cloths much less prone to being blown around in the wind. We used either several metal washers or small fishing sinkers. You might already have that but I couldn’t tell from the video. Thank you for producing and sharing your videos. They are very enjoyable.

    • @kennyhurtado
      @kennyhurtado Рік тому

      Hi Dennis! Thanks for the observation. Ha, no reason at all for using the white side. I’m sorta use to it I guess from shooting in the summer the black gets so hot. I love the idea of using weights in the corners tho, that’s a great idea. Thanks for tuning it! Best K

      Chamonix is amazing! Haven't used one. SO gorgeous. I tried inverting the negs in PS but it looked horrid and I didn't want to wait another 2 weeks for film to be sent to CA for scanning. Ha, just trying to drop my first 3 videos. E03 coming out soon. Thanks for tuning in!

      I've got a LR profile I'd made for negative inversion for portra. Makes life easy as you can drop your scans in and just bulk apply, then tweak settings from there. Will locate and report back. @@kennyhurtado
