Combinations and permutations
Here I answer some questions related to combinations and permutations. I am still a beginner in this subject so some of my explanations are still a bit poor.
I skipped my solution to question 12 as I am still uncertain about whether or not it is correct. If anyone knows the solution then please let me know.
In the final question, I forgot to mention that each of the terms I mention should be added together to get to the final answer.

Some questions on Probability
Переглядів 46 годин тому
In this video I explain some questions on probability for one of my private tutoring clients.
Influence functional derivation for open quantum systems theory
Переглядів 1419 місяців тому
In this video I show a brief outline to derive the influence functional used to study the dynamics of open quantum systems. It is based off of Feynman’s path integral formulation, which involves resolving the identity a bunch of times in order to turn operators into numbers, which we can then shuffle around since numbers commute. The influence functional quantifies the effect of a bath on the d...
Quantum Heat Statistics with the Reaction Coordinate Mapping - Mike Shubrook
Переглядів 122Рік тому
This is a talk I gave at the University of Manchester on 6th December 2023 in front of the theory group in the physics department. I discuss the main project of my PhD so far, being quantum heat statistics in the strong coupling regime. If anyone has any questions about what I talk about, please feel free to reach out to me.
IOP Quantum Undergraduate Day - Mike Shubrook
Переглядів 48Рік тому
This is a video recording of a talk I gave at the Quantum Undergraduate Day conference at the Institute of Physics iop.eventsair.com/qud2023/. In the first part of the talk I introduce the idea of open quantum systems theory, which is the topic of my PhD. In the second part of the talk I share my thoughts and experiences of being a PhD student. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the conferenc...
Independent Boson Model
Переглядів 86Рік тому
In this video I give a brief overview of the independent boson model, also known as the zero tunnelling spin boson model. I show what the matrix elements of the reduced system density matrix look like, by deriving the time evolution operator in the interaction picture.
Quantum Compilation in Qiskit
Переглядів 98Рік тому
In this video I cover some work I did as part of a 3-month project in collaboration with the Ion Quantum Technology Group at the University of Sussex back in 2021. The work was based around the idea of quantum compilation - approximating quantum circuits into chains of gates belonging to the 'native gate set' of a particular quantum computing platform (in this case, trapped ions). The end resul...
Quantum Heat Statistics: Reaction Coordinate Mapping
Переглядів 83Рік тому
In this video we begin with the characteristic function that we found in the last video. I introduce the reaction coordinate mapping, and apply it to the characteristic function, which will allow us to test two difference definitions of heat (to come in later videos): i) changes in the full bath ii) changes in the residual bath
Quantum Heat Statistics: Two Point Measurement Protocol
Переглядів 70Рік тому
In this video I cover the two point measurement protocol, which is one method we can use to define Heat and Work in quantum thermodynamics. I give a short overview of the protocol, and then use it to define the characteristic function, which is the main object we will be working with from now on. I use the terms 'bath' and 'environment', as well as subscripts _R, _B interchangably. I also say '...
Quantum Entanglement - Mike Shubrook
Переглядів 154Рік тому
This is a lecture I gave to students who attended the 'Quantum in the Summer' school, organized by QET Labs at the University of Bristol. The students in the audience are in the summer between their AS and A-Levels, so I aimed to make the lecture accessible to people who are new to the field of quantum mechanics.

So can I decompose any unitary to a quantum circuit? I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH A 32*32 unitary and I need to convert it into a quantum circuit. Could ypu please give some ideas in doig that? Like some coding packages or theory based?

I believe that this can be done, since a 32x32 unitary is a unitary on 5 qubits. I would read Nielsen&Chuang (I cant remember which chapter), and look into KAK decomposition

Nice video man! Especially liked the explanation of why the influence functional is important at the end 👍
