I first listened to this song back in 2016. I was super depressed then and hated my life so much that thoughts of suicide were always close by. I came across this song by accident and my God, it was the first time I ever balled out tears from a song. "A gentle someone always came...", that part reminds me of my nan who would always comfort me whenever I was scared or upset as a child.

The lovely song not only lyrically portrays a mother's tender comfort of storm-frightened child, but her instructive melodic-lesson of the _life_ that springs from the rain, as from frightful night's fierce-lashing winds, and cloud-flashing thunder! After the dark rumblings, child drawn near the mother, calmed in her loving care. Refuge of sleep. Lo, comes light of dawn, that brings tunes of song, morning-birds happy, and floral-growth from the good earth, unfolding in reawakened-fields, grassy. ⛈⚡🌤

The first time I ever heard this song it was 2006ish and it was in a Naruto AMV. I was 14, and I always imagined singing this to my future babies. I’m now 31 and found out last year I can’t have children 😔 I’m still processing that grief, and this song always helps ❤

This song will always be part of a story in my life now. I had just moved to a brand-new city to start a new job. I had a couple of flat-mates, but we didn't really talk. The first few weeks of work were extremely demanding and I didn't know if I would be able to keep doing what I'd been hired to do. I often worked late nights. I felt completely isolated from everyone, and I was starting to get pretty depressed. One night I was shopping at a local grocery store, feeling overwhelmed and trying not to break down in public. The background music on the P.A. wasn't helping; it was mostly jaunty-sounding oldies and "greatest hits." (For some reason, Tom Jones's "What's New, Pussycat?" was almost always one of the tunes on repeat, amongst a bunch of commonly-heard peppy songs.) The songs almost felt mocking. I just felt like a nobody that no one cared about. And then for some reason, out of nowhere, "Lullaby for a Stormy Night" came onto the P.A. I'd heard it before--I'd been a Vienna Teng fan for years--and I was completely dumbstruck that this niche and largely-unknown song was playing. I froze where I was standing and paid attention to the lyrics. And suddenly, I felt seen. I felt like I mattered. I got the message that "this too shall pass." You can call this experience a coincidence, but as a person of faith I felt like it was a message to me from God: "I see you, I know you, and everything is going to be okay." It's been 10 years, and I've never heard anything by Vienna Teng in that store chain before or since. This moment gave me the strength to stick things out. And things did get better--work became more manageable, and I started to make friends and connections in the area where I lived. I'll forever be grateful for this song and for the moment it found me while I walked downhearted down a grocery store aisle. (P.S. Whenever I see UA-cam comments like this, the cynical side of my brain says "that person must have been desperate for some attention." Well now I'm one of those people, so I'm going to try to think differently. I really just wanted to share this moment that was meaningful for me in the hopes that it brightens someone else's day. Thanks for reading this!)
