Clever film but all those saying it's great because of no touching or nudity, there is nothing wrong with touching, physical love or intimacy. The problem is the oversaturation of it and promiscuity. It's that prudish mindset which ruins happy marriages, love, emotional and physical, is beautiful and natural. Everything is about balance 😂😅 The cousin seems to have a crush on her 👀 😳 and I felt a bit bad for the soldier when she refused his lift, how embarrassing 😂 even though he shouldn't have forced his way into their home and lives

I have watched this many times now and read numberless comments. Great that so many of us LOVE this movie, I have come to appreciate so much more now, not just the beauty of the story and wonderful acting. The camera angles, the reflections, light and shade, the use of mirrors especially. I'm intrigued by the mirror images and the way they show an alternate reality which echoes hidden feelings and more. The images of Werner on the stairs are all significant. There is such subtlety in the composition of the emotions. I totally agree with those who praise the French especially for their ability to depict love and I am glad to know there are a lot of viewers who value this as I do. I have to admit that I am also "in Love" with Werner, so handsome, sensitive and with an expressive face that tells deep, deep emotion: WHAT INCREDIBLE ACTING! When he kneels with Jeanne to pick up the fish! .... or as many people comment, .... his last look.... heartbreaking.....
