Thank you for your honest video. I am 67 yrs old and I am facing a revision surgery on my Right total knee replacement. I also live alone so I am trying to prepare myself and my home. I hope you are doing well.
You make it worse for people who have to have this done!
I'm 3 weeks post-op knee replacement surgery (rt knee) and it's definitely a daily battle. Thanks for your videos. Hope you're feeling better.
Thanks for posting your honest review. I feel your pain and frustration. I’m 48 hours post op and it has been a long and difficult day. I’m no stranger to painful surgeries having had two spinal fusions and an ACL reconstruction. In my experience, the medical profession fail’s at post op pain management. This causes unnecessary suffering and borders on cruelty for many patients. I agree that an extra day in the hospital using IV pain management would make this procedure bearable for some patients. I left the hospital with a false sense of progress and recovery. The epidural and IV pain management was still in my system and made me believe I was tolerating the surgery well and ready to go home. But on day two I endured ghastly unrelenting pain. The pain management plan for TKR’s are grossly and unnecessarily insufficient. The medical profession should re-examine its policy about potential opioid addiction following these types of surgeries. Yes some people have near miracle post op recovery but I think that’s exceedingly rare. I hope you are feeling better.
Sorry to hear your update. Don’t you have any family or friends who could have helped you out? I had my surgery about 2 weeks ago and I couldn’t do it without my family support. Your doctor office messed up too as they should have planned a physical therapy nurse visit you the next day after surgery. I had visit the next day and nurse visits 3 times a week for therapy which is a must for proper movement of new knee. You should try to get physical therapy right away and wish you the best. Watch UA-cam videos about doing therapy after surgery
I enjoyed your video and hope you continue making them on a schedule that works for you. I am finishing my first week post knee replacement surgery and can relate to much of what you have described. I am fortunate to have my spouse with me on this journey, which I believe, is making recovery more tolerable. Sending you best wishes for continued strength and healing. Once you are in physical therapy, I believe you will find recovery to be more positive and motivating.
How are you doing now? I was really struck by your struggle and I hope you are feeling better. I’m at 5 weeks and feeling lots of progress with zero painkillers since day 9 after horrible constipation landed me in the er. Despite the sudden withdrawal and chronic pain I am optimistic on the future
I'm 3 wks after knee replacement, feeling better each day. Off the meds. Physical therapy is the key. Keep moving.
A mobilizer?? That sounds so strange. I’m 11 days out and am told to bend, bend, bend
Would have been so much better if you had family or a friend helping you
I had TKR spent 10 days in hospital help me recover from surgery 😊
iiM OVER 3 WEEKS getting better but still not full motion. Trying to concentrate on walking with a natural motion. Hang in there it does get better.
Hi Anton, Thankyou so much for your video. I am 12 days post op and I so totally agree with you. I thought I was prepared but I wasn’t. The pain in the first week was so severe for me. I had the mistake of not writing down pain medication times, thinking oh I’ll go another hour or two. I don’t want to get addicted. Big mistake, take them when they are due. They gave me nausea and a foggy head. I had prepared meals and froze them . I had the higher toilet seat. I had a strap to lift my leg in and out of bed. I had ice packs but wasn’t using them enough. I wasn’t sleeping and still not but can see small improvements everyday. I have swelling, numbness and a burning sensation , all normal the Dr said. We are all different but if you are afraid don’t be. That first week goes fast. You will have pain there’s no getting out of that. So thank you for your honesty Anton and if you read about stories how people went through it the first few weeks with ease , good on them. But Im with Anton the first week is the pits and get help because you will need it. Hope your doing a lot better now Anton and for all those of you to go through it yet think I am strong and I can do this and you honesty will get through it. All the very best.❤️
Thank you for the honest review of your total knee replacement. I'm having a TKR the 1st week of October and I'm scared to death. Your videos have given me insight on how to cope with the pain and physical therapy after surgery. I hope you are totally pain free soon. Thank you again.
I'm now three weeks after my total knee replacement. Ham sandwiches. Lol But the tissue around the itches like the very devil!
I enjoy your video. I had my total knee replaced around the same time you did. My progress is slow. Some days it is depressing. Watching your video encourages me to keep going. It is a lonely process as well. I wish both of us continued progress. Stay happy and thank you!😊
Finally an honest look at post-op TKR. I was discharged fifteen hours after my total knee revision. There is no way to manage that pain at home with a narcotic pill and an a NSAID. You really should have at least three days in the hospital with IV narcotics, an epidural or regional pain block. My pain was fine in the hospital, I was able to get to the bathroom with a walker, sleep and eat. At home I was up to the bathroom every hour in terrible pain, I completely lost my appetite for three weeks and never slept more than an hour at a time. My wife is an RN, and she provided excellent care for me, under terrible circumstances. The pain management at home is criminal. I suspect it causes depression and PTSD in some people. I’m two months post total knee revision and life is approaching normal. They need to prepare patients better, and stop downplaying the pain and all the other side effects. Maybe if the perky RN who ran “Joint-Camp” actually had the surgery she wouldn’t treat it as a new adventure. I’m e retired nurse anesthetist, and I remember when total joint patients spent at least three days in the hospital. There, their pain was managed with IV PCA narcotics, epidural analgesia and nerve blocks. They then transitioned to oral analgesics. Today you go home, where no one except your family hears the screams.
Have you tried pain management.
Wow! So cool! You are so clever and skilled! Bar Keeper's friend will get that shiny in no time if you choose to go that route again!
I love Bar Keepers Friend
Thank you

Thanks for sharing.
I hope you made. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone that can get such joy and relief from eating boiled asparagus is a lot tougher than they might think. Hang in there buddy.
Hi, i just came across your video. I really enjoyed your take on things. Im now 3 weeks post TKR and its exactly as you said. I can see small improvements daily, the pain has been quite manageable for me as long as ive taken my pain meds regularly. Just managed to raise my leg on my own today for the first time so thats a good sign. Hope you are doing ok. 😊
Hang in there. It will get better. The first 2 weeks are the worst.
I’m on day 5 and the pain it’s horrible!
Sir, it's 8-weeks today for me! This is a rough ride & I didn't take any oxi but regretted it! The pain was nutz, hypersensitivity was insane, struggled to bend my knee, walking was difficult! I can tell you, it seems that every week on the surgery day there is a change! Try to read, if you have a hobby, keep your hands busy & keep mentally busy, it will get your mind off the desperation! I am struggling with my ROM but I'm getting there! Yes there's PT pain but you must do it to be normal again! Good luck!
I am in week 6 after my total knee replacement surgery and still in a lot of pain.
I had a TKR and I'm on day 3. (Had it done Wed and I am writing this Sat) I don't have any helpful suggestions, other than to please hang in there. Most of the people I've spoken to about it say the first 2-3 weeks can be brutal, but it does get better after that. ❤
I'm probably having a knee replaced the end of july. So scared of the pain.
My biggest problem had to do with the pain pills because the pain pills made me fuzzy and forgetting the pain pills made it hurt so much that I was fuzzy. I think it should be mandatory for people to spend a week, at least, in a rehab center just to find equilibrium.
I agree! I have had such a hard time. Every video I see shows people with such a quick recovery.
I would say that right now my biggest problem is boredom with the process I'm on and immobilizer during all weight-bearing activities for another 2 weeks.
OMG I just came across your video. Long time no see. Lol I had a right total knee replacement in 2010. Best thing I ever did. Some advice do your rehab even at home, yes it is painful but worth it. I would take my pain pill before doing rehab and it helped so much. It does get better and you realize that you are taking less and less pain pills. 14 years and it works great. Good luck!
Ps this is Brenda from Larned,KS.
I am 3 days behind you, it’s starting to get better for me. Keep up with your exercises, they help a lot. Best wishes
TKR surgery is painful as hell and definitely not for the faint of heart, but it does get better (you're probably sick of hearing everyone tell you that). Mine is still stiff but feeling great, Monday is week 10, and I'm having the other one replaced in two and a half weeks. Stay on top of your pain meds, move it as much as you can stand, ice it often and you'll feel better in no time. Cheer up and hang in there, you should be feeling much better by the third or fourth week. Good luck!
Right now I'm stuck in the boredom of still using a walker in the knee immobilizer all the time. I don't just sit very well.
U got this take ur time ,, I’m 3 months in I stop taking pills in 3 weeks thank god I had my husband
You are right, it's all perception!
ahhh, this getting old ain't for sissies! Glad to know you are doing better, six months from now we will both be loving walking on our new knee!
I am having thoughts about getting the other one done in about six or seven months
@@antonnewton1534 Me too, in the same boat. Maybe in a about5 months I will have forgotten the horror.
Glad to see you're doing better. I am dreading having the staples out! I went back to the doctor unscheduled yesterday because I was bleeding through my bandage. Luckily my doc worked me in, was so incredibly nice and said it's because wounds seep and that's not blood. It looks good and just keep it up. I can not imagine doing this by yourself. My husband is taking care of me and keeping my spirits up. You are doing great. (lol, we noticed the doc put on a bandage that you can't see through this time at all)
I was in one of those situations where I thought I was prepared and figured out halfway through something and figured out that I wasn't ready.
I also am just a week out from the surgery. I spent the first night in the hospital and they gave me oxy every four hours, I pretty much kept that schedule for the next 3 days at home. I also came home with two nausea medications. You can do it! I too, felt this is living hell at one point. It's better day by day. I am on day 8 and now only taking one oxy at dinner time and one between midnight and dawn if needed. It will get better, and you can do it. Hang in there. If you need it, take it. No shame, it's not that easy to get addicted to post surgery. Your doc intended for you to use it. I know what you mean, though...it's hell sometimes. I was going to have my other knee done in July and now that plan is gone. It will be at least 6 months before I do this again.
I am 8 days post op for right TKR and my 2nd day was the worst day for pain, but I was taking the oxy every 4 hours after the surgery and all the way up to a week after surgery, I'm now taking it as needed, my pain is in my thigh (feels like a deep thigh bruise) it hurts on movement and during PT, but I keep ice on it regularly and its starting to ease up some. I have a brother who is 3 mos post TKR and he is getting around without his cane and no noticeable limp, he says he still has discomfort during the night time trying to sleep, but he gives me inspiration that things will get better, right now, it feels like it will never get better 😀
Generally speaking I would say that 8 days is the bottom of the Abyss and it should not be all uphill from there. But that was 2 weeks ago. I'm just starting to figure out how this UA-cam thing works.
Please be strong, you can do it! ❤️
I am at about the same point you are in my knee replacement journey. It is very painful but keep moving as much as you can, do your physical therapy exercises, and try adjusting your meds. I alternate taking Tramadol every 6 hours and Tylenol every 6 hours in such a way that I am getting something for pain every three hours and that has helped tremendously. I wish you well and hope that you begin to feel better. Eating on a regular schedule is a great idea, too. Glad that you are doing that.
Sir, it is just like the others are saying below, it will get better. I had the unfortunate experience of a pharmacy messup. Because of other issues I had 4 prescriptions to pick up for the surgery. They were in two bags apparently and the tech only handed me three and the 4th was the oxy for the post surgery. Long story short the nerve block wore off about 8 pm day two. the next 36 hours were a blur where i literally crapped myself and threw up multiple times. Not embarrassed at all to admit it. Easily one of the most painful experiences of my life. Ice, move, Ice, move, Ice, drink water, .... repeat. You WILL make it!!! Week 8 now and still some issues to work through but getting better. Hang in there man!
I totally understand where you are coming from…but believe me, it will get better. I am approaching post week 8 and I’m starting to feel more normal. Stay encouraged and only take the meds as prescribed. I personally had to stop taking the Oxy for the reasons you described. I’m looking forward to hearing your story of success. Rest well and take care of yourself!
Believe me, it gets better. The pain is relentless for the first 3 weeks. I took paracetamol and pain relief gel directly on the muscle area and gently exercises.
This is a 52 week process and you are starting week 2? It will get better
You will only be taking the pain pills till you feel better 4-6 weeks. Keep on the pain pill schedule and do what they tell you. Remember Ice is your friend
