I was watching Predator last week with the director commentary. John McTiernan said that this scene came from a dream, where someone was trying to disarm an atom bomb with only seconds to do it, and they could never really catch up to it. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up to hear that. I haven't been able to get this scene out of my head ever since.
I think one the best parts about the movie is we didn’t get the entire backstory of why the predator is there: we just accept that he’s in the jungle for safari and is looking for a worthy hunt, so that’s good enough
Took me a couple of watches to realise it was Billy’s laugh it was emulating, I thought he was just going super-panto villain evil in his last few moments 😅

I think one of the things that make this predator different from the others is he was not just a murderer he was also a dick.

Here is a fan theory. The explosive device on the Predator's arm is actually a miniaturized anti-matter reactor. The reactor provides the power for the Predator's suit and weapons. It would be small, probably less than half a gram, but the matter/anti-matter reaction would theoretically provide enough energy to power the plasma caster and the active cloaking device. When the possibility of capture or death was near, the Predator would input a code to deactivate the containment unit on the anti-matter. The resulting reaction would cause the explosion, effectively vaporizing the area of rainforest we see in the film.
If you believe some of the stuff that came later as 'Cannon' Dutch eventually develop a form cancer after that encounter. So it has some kind of radiation involved Interesting theory though.

It's crazy how humans have the ability to reason and the intelligence to understand a concept without ever being told or shown exactly ahead of time to learn it first hand. Animals, like even our own family dogs could never do this. What sucks is that sometimes people brain's rot away from drugs and cigarettes or age to point that they either can't reason or they just assume you can read their minds and can just know/can understand a concept that's too complex because they lack the ability to reason themselves.

It’s because they approach movies nowadays from the wrong mindset. Your mindset is the foundation. If it’s off, everything you do will be off. A lot of people don’t understand this..

The one in Predator 2 did try to blow himself up but Harrigan sliced off his arm along with the bomb which stopped it from detonating. The one in AVP used his bomb to destroy the pyramid in the hopes of killing all the Xenomorphs by detaching it from his wrist. The one in the Concrete Jungle video game also tried to blow himself up but he ended up surviving the explosion.

How did the Schwartz know that was an explosive device? Anyway, I have to give him credit at least for not hollering aimlessly while diving for cover like Stallone did at every opportunity in "Demolition Man".
He’s a spec ops guy, the beeping and moving digits is enough for even a regular soldier to understand it’s a bomb.
i'm pretty sure he just ran because the device was beeping and the predator was laughing like a maniac.
I just assumed he figured out it was a countdown because each of the lights went off in a certain order. He might not have been able to read the numbers but he knew a countdown when he saw one and that was a sign to get outta there ASAP.
If you hear beeping like that and see what looks like numbers counting down it’s pretty fair to assume that it’s about to self destruct
The “beep, beep, beep,” is technically the universal indication of a bomb that’s about to detonate.
