Just did the exact same thing with a microfibre cloth on the stainless steel header pipe on my dual-sport bike. Going to try your method here and hopefully have the same luck ! 👍🏾💪🏾

Yes add some wire ,wire connectors sink tube, tire repair fuse little thing that may go wrong thar you can repair on the side of the road.

Not here to be rude r tell you what to do. Just my opinion and what I do. I never use a drill/impact gun to start bolts on anything especially Harleys. I always start the bolts by hand an get couple threads started first. Clean st. I doing the lp6 headlight and s1 on front turn signals soon. Just waiting on couple other parts

I also always carry a small flashlight that uses one (1) AA battery.

Why have I seen others for the same bike with a upsweep

If you didn't know they existed (I didn't prior to ordering a exhaust wrap kit I didn't use) steel zip ties are a thing and have saved me and my club brothers a hand full of times.

Did the same thing on my chrome heat shields with a micro fiber cloth. I tried plastic razor blades, didn’t work. Then I used a utility knife blade, took the melted plastic right. Didn’t see any scratches until I got it out in natural light. One good thing, you could only see the scratch lines at certain angles. Note to self, if bike is hot, don’t get anything plastic, including micro fiber near it.

Did you keep the left shift arm from the stock forward control kit, and just swap out the right brake arm only? Also online the brake arm doesn’t come with the brake pad thing like you have the spiked one here.. where do I get that?
