i saved this for watch later so i've not listened to it yet, but i have severe OCD. my entire fear system is structured around it and by it. contamination OCD to be specific, about a very specific contaminant, but it is not like generic OCD based on germs or sickness.. it's very complicated. it's like a phobia. didn't even know this wasn't everyone's reality until recently, that's how deeply engrained my phobia is in my brain. everyday i wake up praying hard that i don't face any big triggers. I'm in a constant state of hypervigilance and anxiety, anxious about what might happen next. as of now, my life isn't dictated by it but i live in anxiety that i may go thru a horrible episode. went through a few bad episodes because 1. i was truly delusional in believing that my feared scenario has happened, and 2. once it really happened although only to some extent. Although normal people would be unphased even if my worst nightmare really DOES happen, I am absolutely paralyzed even imagining it. So my life is either very limited or if I do have to expose myself to (what is in reality normal) scary situations, I'm absolutely distressed. I can't do anything in public without feeling extreme paranoia at the people around me. idk where this phobia even comes from, but it's not going away anytime. i am either always severely irritated, anxious, hopeless or worrying about when my joy may end for a while. note that I am truly not afraid of ANYTHING else in life -- I'm wholly unbothered by death, any illnesses, or other catastrophes. which normal people would be scared of. So it may seem so silly to others that my phobia, something others are only slightly disturbed by, is so scary to be that NOTHING else can compare to it. That's how scary my fear is to me. and that fear connects to a REAL traumatic hypothetical situation (not mine, just traumatic for anyone) hence why it's so deeply entangled and hard to get rid of -- which is what makes my OCD very strange aka hard to treat. Just writing this to reflect on after I listen to this video.
