I have a Serbian sire, German dam. Rottweiler. It's my 8th Rottweiler my first with Serbian lineage. I can tell you there is no comparison. I have no choice but to run him everyday and he loves to pull his weight sled. 115 lb male. Solid muscle, extremely agile, highly driven and focused. Very task oriented and he loves to work. I could see where he would be a problem on the police force, just from sheer size and power. Every takedown would wind up in an injury, just from impact, not taking into account the bite force.

I have nothing against any of the other breeds, but my preference would always be for a Rottweiler. I've had Rottweilers for 30+ years who have lived harmoniously with Chow Chows, Miniature Dachshunds & Brussels Griffons. In the right hands they are easy to train and as they mature they gain a sixth sense with respect to what you want of them in any particular situation.

I say the answer is no. While the Pit Bull can be great for hunting and is capable of singlehandedly bringing down creatures much larger than such as cattle, many of the Pit Bull's behavioral traits and qualities make it not suitable for hunting like lions do. For one, like the video says, Pit Bulls are more solitary. While Pit Bulls can be pack animals since they are dogs, they are more independent and have higher levels of animal aggression than most dogs. This does not make a good fit for being a pack animal. Another thing that makes them different from lions is the trait of gameness. Survival instinct is extremely important for wild animals. Part of surviving is knowing when to give up or when you are outmatched. However, since Pit Bulls were created for tasks such as fighting an enraged bull one on one or fighting another dog until one is unable to continue, fear and hesitation was selectively bred out of them. While a lion or tiger would give up if it feels the odds are not in its favor or it is taking too much damage, a Pit Bull would not.

This was a fine video, but I disagree with one. The pit bull is not really a breed that has undergone much transformation. I would not say it is the most untouched breed, but I don't reckon it could be put in a list for one of the most transformed dog breeds in history. The only thing that really changed about the bulldog (bulldog is what some folks call pit bulls and used to call pit bulls in the past due to their use as butcher's dogs and bull-baiting dogs) is its reputation. One thing I would say is that bulldogs have always had different sizes and builds to them even during the says of bull baiting. That is because pit bulls have always been used for different work. In the past, they were bull baiting, being matches against other bulldogs, and also hog hunting. Some were even ratting. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are different breeds that have come from the pit bull such as the American staff and the American bully that are more muscular and have wider heads that people also call pit bulls. That confuses folks into thinking they are all the same breed. One thing the video said is that pit bulls used to look lighter and slender in its build, but there are pit bulls that still look like that today. One need only take a gander at the game-bred lines. The dogs still have the lean, medium-sized build some folks that do not know better would even refer to as skinny.

I think it is a double standard. Even though it is a double standard, I could see a way in which I would be fine it. For example, it would be one thing if they exclusively used Pit Bulls and would rescue many of them from shelters to train for work, but that is not the case. Pit Bulls are not exclusively used by law enforcement and seem to make up a smaller percent of the dogs they use. Law enforcement and military often times go to breeders and import dogs such as German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois from Europe to train and use. Pit Bulls being banned for the general public means less people can adopt them from shelters, and police and military are not picking up the slack in adopting or rescuing Pit Bulls. So, while other breeds like Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds can be rescued and adopted by the public, Pit Bulls often times cannot.

Yes, I believe it is a double standard. The bans for the general public having Pit Bull-type dogs but are allowed for law enforcement is actually a contradiction. Some might think it makes sense, but I respectfully disagree. The idea of Pit Bulls needing to be banned is because it is believed that they are unpredictable and aggressive by nature. However, them being able to be trained and used for keeping the public safe by doing things like drug and bomb detection shows they are intelligent, trainable, and productive members of society. Law enforcement and security forces do not want dogs that are aggressive and unpredictable. Look at the other breeds law enforcement and security forces use as well (such as German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois). These breeds have a reputation as being very intelligent and loyal. And instead of law enforcement bringing attention to how intelligent, loyal, eager to please, and trainable Pit Bulls are and show them in more heroic scenarios, they say nothing and actually continue to enforce bans while relying on the Pit Bull's strength, intelligence, and eagerness to please to continue to help them keep people safe.

What is the control issue, do you hav 110 lb weaklings that are cops/military trying to control the dog? Maybe they should rethink their personnel and not the dog.

My vet didn't want to muzzle my pitbull when I brought her in after being attacked by an Akita. He says that pitbulls are the only dogs he doesn't bother muzzling. He considers them the least aggressive of the dogs he treats. And Akitas one of the most aggressive. He flushed and sutured my dogs wounds and all she did was lick his hands after he finished.

I couldn't imagine my two rottweilers without tails. I think they look fantastic and would look strange without them. I think people just need to get used to seeing them in their natural form. Docking is banned here in Australia, thank god.

Rottweilers are my favorite breed of dogs but Doberman is also so the only best conclusion is to own both. These dogs are some of the smartest, loyal, and strongest guard dogs. They also make great companions and can brighten up anyone's life if properly trained, socialized and educated on their natural behavioral tendencies and health and maintenance needs ✌🏽❤️

I have several pit mixes rescues, awsome dogs, not a guard dog there big babies. Unless there family, but will not I truders, I wNt rottie now on my ranch for a little more guarding ability, but still good with family.

They are still used, but much less. Rottweilers and Dobermanns (of which Rottweiler is one of ancestor breeds) suffer greatly from cardiomyopathy, which is not easily prevented through breeding screen tests. They also suffer from hip dysplasia and knee ligaments tearing as other diseases. In hot weather, on average, they simply do not posess the same level of activity as malinois. They also suffer from breeding practices of show popular breeds, where good working character was lost.

My buddy Symon Was a very intelligent dog a very handsome dog and a protector!!! He weighed over a 150 pounds. At 1 time he was extremely large. Cutting back down to a 135. That was a good running, wait for him!!! We lost him to osteo sarcoma the Day After Christmas. I miss him. I really miss him a lot he won't never be forgotten!!! Make sure you get your rottweiler to the vet once a year at very least, maybe you won't have to lose yours!!! Rottweilers forever Symon definitely turned me into a Rottweiler person. I will never have another kind of dog!!!! Osteo sarcoma sucks!!! Make sure yours gets his regular checkups with your vet!!! Symon will be with me for the rest of my journey!!!

I always thought that the lion hunters in a pride were lionesses, while "big boss" slept happily snoozing not far away. Male lions do "wake up" to protect their pride or fight a young male trying to take it over. I lived in Kenya for 3 years, in a time where there were no tourists and guards - in fact real wild unprotected life, and never saw a male lion hunting alone, only attacking alone.....

I have had both. I would say Dobermans handle a warmer climate better. Dobermans have better stamina. A doberman can jump over a 6 ft high fence. A doberman can catch a bird before it can get off the ground. Rottweilers do not care about cold and rain or snow I do believe the worst the weather the more they enjoy it. Rottweilers are always hungry. Rottweilers are stronger. Rottweilers have a happy growl and an angry growl. Both dogs are good companions.

I have had many Rotties and Dobes, unfortunately seen a few fights also, bottom line. Rotties fight like Mike Tyson, Dobies fight like Bruce Lee, who would you rather watch your back?

All dogs from the smallest to the largest give more than a human could ever repay -one breed isn’t better than another-we have to remember as individuals that there really isn’t a bad dog breed just horrible owners that give man’s best friend a bad name -have had all kinds in my life time from Maltese to Mastiff-all have showed loyalty and love we as humans couldn’t hold a candle to-love the Rottweiler breed have owned 2 and cried for both one at 11yrs. the other at 12-that’s what makes dogs such wonderful family members commitment unmatched even by humans

Two kinds of rottweilers here in South Africa: the big boned heavy rotties lazing about in people's yards and the super fit athletic ones that the correctional facilities and security companies use. Went recently to dump some refuse saw beautifully built athletic and agile rotties standing guard. No one can outrun them and absolutely psycho killers. Same as the ones i saw at Drakenstein prison and other prisons
