Antlerless Hunt with Terminal Ballistics Report: 6ARC 108gr ELDM
Late season Nebraska antlerless only hunt.
Equipment:
Bear creek 6ARC 18” upper, DPMS lower, Leupold VX freedom 2-7, factory Hornady Match with 108gr ELDM
Spooked the deer when I started filming (thought it was recording when I hit the button after I first saw them, but apparently it didnt take through my glove the first time) so my 75 yard shot turned into a 175 yard shot. Deer ran 50 yards through the treeline into the neighboring field, the owner of which just so happened to see my deer expire in his field and he and his son graciously drug it out to the edge for me!
Very impressed with the 108gr eldm bullet’s performance out of this tiny 6arc cartridge.

if you use fresh cut wood it will be more efficient.
@@nunohebres thank you for feeding the algorithm.
And some say such a bullet would get zero penetration... 😂
Crazy the way that works 🙏🏼🔥⚒️🧙🏼
On the first shot one doe went down and never got up and then you 6 more shots fired until the second one went down. It sure wasn't 103 yards if you were sitting where the camera was located, looked like 100 feet. Those shots going wide looked more like spray and pray, spend more time practicing would be the thing to do.
@@MrOldclunker there were two of us (thought that would be evident as one rifle is clearly supressed and bolt action and the other an unsuppressed semi auto) my buddy dropped the doe you saw on camera, (and fired all those shots at running deer that missed) my first shot was at a deer just off screen to the left that came running back into camera and expired. (You can see my second shot miss just in front of it before it collapses) also the camera was on 5X zoom, thats why it appears closer than it actually was.
Were you running boss legacy or the warchief?
You titled this perfectly.

Ethical as ethical can be brother. You took a vital shot and with that particular round it didnt work so well. Now you know center mass with that round. Nice job, exactly the video ive been looking for as ive been stocking up on this round but havent put any in the boiler room yet. All three methods are very good, but I think 1st one is very simple and easy 🤔🤔 what is your choice of method dear Smith??
@@sadikhalishaik2026 the whitley method. Its the easiest in which to forge a barrel to dimension and length quickly.
Did you ever finish this project?
@@BodiDelgrosse yes and no. I got all the metal functional but never put it into a stock. I was unhappy with how much of it turned out and learned so much during the building that I’ve decided to start over on a new one. The old pieces now adorn my display board at demonstrations. The new one is a ways off, as life has gotten in the way.
@ I see that’s unfortunate I like the way you went about doing things a lot like the way they would have actually did it back in the day.
Great explanation! Thanks for your help
I’ve been having trouble forge welding I was wondering where u put the metal in the forge pot to forge welding cuz I keep burning mine or it’s just giving off a lot of forge scale
@@markperryman797 I lay mine flat with the table, that puts my steel at the reducing zone of the fire from my pot, which prevents the excessive oxidation of the steel.
@ so just leave it in the neutral zone don’t put my metal in the fire pot

Carbon is cool
Thats one way. I hang that same barrel over a heat source and have a 1 inch hole at top. As it heats 1st is smoke, then the gases that turn into a torch for a while. Eventually nothing comes out and I then remove from heat. Solid logs pure black charcoal. Beautiful

I think your full of BS or pure luck in that cross wind.
@@MrOldclunker Luck? Thats what the inexperienced call it. It all comes down to practice and experience. Here on the prairie a 10mph wind is standard-the baseline. All day every day. Thats what I shoot in, all the time-so I have gotten very good at reading and calling wind and the proper holds. It’s not rocket surgery. You too can learn this skill, and its easier than you think. Hell if you work up the courage to actually practice at longer ranges you will probably pick it up naturally without even thinking about it.
Looks (IMHO for what it’s worth) to be the strongest of the three ways to make a barrel but also the hardest. I subscribed, looking forward to more.
@@Deveak I’ll be honest with you-I want to be churning out videos like I used to, but about three years ago life knocked me down and every time I think I can get back up it kicks me again. As soon as i’m stable I’m going to get back at it. Just picked up a large amount of wrought iron in the form of wagon wheels and I fully intend on turning one of them into a rifle.
@ no problem, looks like you have a large library of videos for me to look through. I look forward to it.
Looks good from this angle. 👍😎
dead nuts!
IMO, 600 yds is unethical. A lot can happen in 600 yards. A perfect shot can become a gut shot in an instant. Yes, you are ready. Now, if the deer will hold still you are golden.
@@Sean-p4b1h tell me you dont know anything about shooting without telling me. 600 may be far for where you live, but thats mid range here on the prairie. 600 yards is the furthest I have to shoot on this property. I regularly shoot out to a mile at another property I have access to. Edit: Also: take note of the time from the shot breaks to visible impact. -its less than one second. Yeah, LOTS of time for something to happen. And your comment about getting a deer to hold still and perfect shots to gut shots made me chuckle. Again you are letting your inexperience show. I havent shot a deer standing still for two seasons now, and if you actually know where to aim, (hint: its not behind the shoulder) you have lots of leeway for a shot to drift further than the spot you picked.
@@veteranironoutdoors8320 LOL You're so full of sh!t it isn't funny. Stop posting this crap.
