Fly Fishing After Cyclone: March 2023.

Here's a quick video of a local north island river, shot after the cyclone Gabrielle, in late March of 2023. This river is very still so we used a dry dropper rig minimize disturbance, the river is swamp feed, making it tannin stained and difficult to spot fish.

Goood friends.
Kylie noooo
Epic, love small stream fishing and couple of crackers for the size of the stream.
Have u ever fished coal creek, Pohoninga?? Or the kawhatau/ mangweka ways
Yeah man sure have.
A real nice fish from a tight piece of water, well done.
Here's a preview of the next video. ua-cam.com/video/cd6cm2V3qe4/v-deo.html
How are the rivers going up in Hawkes Bay Area. I know a lot of rivers got smashed but not sure how they are fishing a couple of years after.
@@buzzramsey I haven't caught one in HB since but have seen a few. Hopefully this season will be better.
That's a great conditioned brown trout for after the flood
@@RandoStuffNZ David was wrapped as with it.
Is this in the ruahine range
@@RandoStuffNZ 👍
Whaaa mean water bro crystal
thanks for watching.
What part of the manawatu is this, the upper region or down the lower region?
I can't say, needs to be protected.
Stunning stream nyphming paradise
Beautiful memories
👍
Nice catch
Pretty sure I caught that exact fish back in Jan 2021. Was 6.5lbs then, same kipe & front shoulder.
I’ve got a few photos if you’re interested.
Yeah maybe. I plan on going back soon, hopefully still there.
Aaah, shit happens man.. i hope he doesn't get too mad with you.. great spot to -calm your mind- fish tho
I think that he might of been mad if it was a trophy size.
Stunning water mate. Lovely river and some nice casting.
Thanks 👍
They look healthy on ya boys ,that water is crystal. .
Thanks for watching.
Should put em all back , that flood wiped heaps of em out last year , from kiwitea to feilding i havnt landed a trout all season .. u should leave em all to bread ma bro . Dnt take all the trout bro put em back bruv
These vids were all before the cyclone last year but it's definitely been lean times after that. The only place that has fished well for me since has been the Rangitekei, the main river, the tributaries have barren for me.
@@ManawatuFlyFishing i fished the rangitikei as me old boys farm is out those ways and i got 1 little 1 not the head waters tho this is just by hunterville ways , was real snaggy heaps of shit in there , went up and dwn that river , but i have the oroua at my doorstep and i aint got 1 this summer outa there ..weird ae .im glad u put them back bro we wanna think of the future and by puttn them back our kids will hopefully have some fun tu in the future . Cheers bro
Do u let them go bk into the awa bro .
Yeah bro I always put them back.
That’s a a nice trout
Perfect 🤩
Great end to the end for what has been a really good trip, pity about no deer but the fishing would have made up for that.
Another great episode of what would have been a memorable trip
Yes it was. It was a shame that I didn't continue with David to the waterfall. I put on cold wet clothes on in the morning and it got to me but I came right pretty quick in the sun at camp. Thanks for watching.
Much better narrating than the other lurch. Keep up the good work
Beautiful mate. Right in the headwaters there, good edit too.👌👌
Nice Catch
Thank you very much!
Excellent fishing in some a magnificent part of the country, looking forward to part two,
Thanks Neil.👍
This video was one year in the making.
What an incredible stream
Awesome scenery, that water looks so good. Great catches too.
Nicely done bro crystal clear gin waters. Be good to check it out post cyclone.
I reckon that the next video is going to do really well.
@@ManawatuFlyFishing nice edit man.
@@s.t.houtdoorsnz.1454 cheers bro. That last hookup is gonna make a cracker short.
Awsumness Brother's epic to see 😎💯👌
Gd mahi lettn em go over the years theres gettn less and less but up the head waters theres some goood breaders.. on ya ma bro
Yeah man, we got to put those good one's back.
I hate fishing videos that don't show the fish!
Sorry, the shorts are just to promote my long videos, they get 4x the views. See this for the battle. ua-cam.com/video/nLi2eIVgfGE/v-deo.html
Great video. I enjoy backpacking fishing adventures.
Thanks. I enjoy them too. I will have a 50 minute back country video coming out in the next week or two.
Excellent, sometimes the backup trip works out for the better. It will be interesting to what this water looks like after the cyclone.
I think this river should be ok in a couple of months but all my HB spots got wrecked pretty bad, might have to give them a rest for a couple of years.
@@ManawatuFlyFishing agreed, we were so lucky in the Wairarapa we have had lots of high water all summer but really no damage. I am going to miss the HB rivers and it will be interesting to see how long it takes them to recover, might have to head to the Manawatu more often than HB, good luck for the rest of the season.
@@NeilgRichardson yeah it's been a wet summer here, I haven't been able to get out much.
Good training for the 'coast to coast', Great fish, and a good days outing. Fished these streams in the Sixties but there were few fish to be had in those days. Not everything gets worse! Regards from Gisborne.
Looks like such a good day out!
Looks real good, what stream is this if you don't mind me asking? Im from Taranaki so sort of used to tight fishing, but quite like to fish the Manawatu region
Good shit boys
big fish cool
when those rivers go off its so much fun, thanks for sharing, love the banter
It almost becomes too easy. I can catch as much from one afternoon in Taupo as I would from my local river over the whole year.
@@ManawatuFlyFishing Yep, I know that feeling hahaha
Nice edit bro so many fish to keep track of. Can't wait for more winter runs this year have to just time it right with some rain.
Hopefully get some more winter fishing in this year. Can be some of the best
@ManawatuFlyFishing probably get more consistent weather come winter haha.
I love the care you take while handling these fish! 👍
Thanks 👍

Some of the worst casting and technique I have ever looked at.
