It's not that hard to go to the store where the ps5 product would normally be purchased, then click on the "upgrade" option once the system has read your "license".

It is one of those baffling things that Sony could easily fix or add as an option but refuses to - like adding PS4-style folders for game libraries. A setting that offers "retain PS4 copies from physical media" toggle in Settings would do. Baffling and infuriating why they don't fix or add simple things to their UI. .

I had this for over two years already, specifically with Elden Ring and I thought Sony would've fixed it. What's even weird is it does the same for Minecraft with the PS4 disc which the PS5 upgrade was recently released, upgrade works but no disc indication for PS5

Nevermind the haters in these comments. All of these “it’s just a little more work” and “that’s what you get for buying it cheaper” comments don’t mean shit. Bad design is bad design. What happens is the ps4 disc becomes a “key” to play the ps5 version. Otherwise you could just have the upgraded version on the ps5 and give the disc away to a friend or trade it in.

alternate title for the video: "oh no I have to push a few more buttons before I can play my game" I get that it is a little bit that we have to do that, but it's not that big of a deal. I had to deal with this with one game in my library, and I just settled for the game that required the upgrade for longer sessions and did not have to swap it out every 5 minutes so it didn't really bother me

It's even designed to look like the ps5 with the same color scheme just like how the ps3 monitor had the same colour scheme as the ps3/Vita and light on/standby light colours.

jedi survivor (200kr), spider man 2 (300) and resident evil 4 remake (250) for 750 kr, that is like 70 usd in American currency from Swedish. I did previously own spiderman 2, bought it at launch date for 80 usd here in Sweden and sold it used next week for 65 on an online auction site. So in the end I ended up paying 45 for Spiderman 2 while I have finished it and platinumed it & a sealed copy on the shelf for the collection. Good deal. Digital buyers cant compare, I literally "rented" (you can say) , the game for 15 usd for a week, and then finished it.

Same boat as you brother. I also use a launch disc model as my main ps5 and I have the money for the pro but I refuse to pay 700 dollars for a CPU from 2019 and a few extra tflops. I don't think anyone would be supporting this kind of anti consumer bullshit. Everyone should keep their original ps5 and take that 700 and buy a PC or a steamdeck / windows handheld. Don't give Sony positive feedback or this will become the norm.

If you have the PS5 and sell it, it won't be that bad financially to upgrade. My plan is around spring/summer time to upgrade.

Bought ps4 pro in a heartbeat. But ps5 pro makes me consider joining the PC family. Sony doesn't understand, if i can pull the money to spend 800 euro for this console. I don't mind putting extra money on top for an actual PC. This console is not worth my money. It's like they say in the Netherlands. Don't be a thief out of your own wallet.

Better buy a PC, future proof, upgradeable and the backward compatibility are unlimited even spanned to other type of machine. And many forgot that PS5 pro not $200 more than PS5, but its $700 more because its a whole new device , not an upgradeable parts like in PC parts.

I just don't see any reason to upgrade. I keep seeing "ray tracing" this "ray tracing" that. And very minimal spec upgrade. Might as well wait for the PS6. Plus this gen's library of games pale in comparison to previous generations. Don't think we'll ever see PlayStation 2 type of games in terms of choices, genres, etc.

I did the same like yourself , got a 2TB SSD for my PS5 a year ago and feel no urge to change my setup.

Save your money and get a PC or wait for the PS6. PS5 Pro is a joke.
