wow they really had to sing AND dance.... and the chorus had to actually sing for real in order for it to be heard! shows just how much fakery goes on on the Broadway stage when it comes to actually singing...
Just shows how the technology's changed over time. So often, back in the '60s & early '70s, you wouldn't hear the full sound until a few seconds after the singer &/or accompaniment had begun. The centre-stage microphone isn't adequate, here. They could've done with the radio mics attached to their clothes!
Live performing did not rely on amplification! You heard it as it came out of their mouths. TV is different. No radio mics then. They projected their voices. How sad you don't know any differently.
zzindorf Of course it did. The venue they'd mistakenly chosen for this production clearly illustrates that. I'm well aware that there weren't any radio mics, then. My comment, there, was tongue-in-cheek (- hence the exclamation mark -), something which clearly escaped your notice. According to your logic, if you went to a Beatles' or a Cliff Richard concert, back in the early 60s, you could clearly hear the vocals, given that they were projecting their voices. You often couldn't hear anything above the screaming of the audience. Btw -you make just one more comment which gets personal with me, & you'll be blocked.
Astonishing choreography. I never get tired of watching this. What's incredible is that Bayoork Lee is almost a foot shorter than the other women but Bennett choreographs them so precisely that their hands are almost always level. Genius!
So glad Glee brought all the after-the-facts.... too bad none of you were there when the shit was going down.. with all the Chiropractic lawsuits! Lol.... As they say... Another time, another place... Regardless... "gleed" to see you here :)
To the person knocking Baayork Lee: This point is going to sound unimportant, but the impact of her costume's cut on the impression of her dance is much greater than it appears. The other two dancers were costumed in dresses that accentuate their waistlines, which in turn accentuates the "pop" and grace of their moves. Lee's/Miss Wong's dress has a kind of babydoll/empire waist look that makes a more childlike impression. You put that together with the shorter height, and she's just not going t
I'll never forgive Glee for interspersing it with the kiki song....really? Normally I love glee, but they took a good song and ruined it by putting it with that drivel...
This is from the 60's. Of course you all will like the glee version better. I hate the superiority glee fans get when they view ANY other song off of glee. We get it. >__>
Auto-tune is an utter abomination. Only amateurs need it, except amateurs can sing better than pro's who use it. What a crutch. Voices should not sound robotic.
Brilliant!!!
This is lightning in a bottle. Absolutely breathtakingly perfect.
I come here every year to bow the hell down to Donna McKechnie.
Can we please stop mentioning Glee.
BAAYORK LEE IS ASIAN AMERICAN BUT LOOKS MORE LIKE A BLACK WOMAN WITH A HAIR WEAVE.

Why would I care? Block me.

She dances big, but not as big as Betsy Haug.
This was the '69 Tony Awards...
It's hilarious!
Really shitty quality.. I can barely hear anything those broads are singing...

So glad Glee brought all the after-the-facts.... too bad none of you were there when the shit was going down.. with all the Chiropractic lawsuits! Lol.... As they say... Another time, another place... Regardless... "gleed" to see you here :)
Glee also brought me here, and I'm glee for that
Glee
The level of stupidity in the comments is just sad. This is far better than anything glee has done.
Glee brought me here ....... what the hell is this -_-

Seth Rudetsky does a hilarious deconstruction of this performance.

Glee brought me here .. Ohh Glee is better
lea michele is best!
I'll never forgive Glee for interspersing it with the kiki song....really? Normally I love glee, but they took a good song and ruined it by putting it with that drivel...
Their constant use of "mash-ups" deprived the show of all integrity and taste.
This choreography is amazing. Kinda makes today dancers look lazy.
I'll never forgive Glee for doing this....
Fuck the quality, Love the song, Live Glee !!
This is from the 60's. Of course you all will like the glee version better. I hate the superiority glee fans get when they view ANY other song off of glee. We get it. >__>
The girl in the purple dress used to be in the middle if I'm not mistaken
THIS IS MUCH BETTER THEN THE GLEE VERSION :D

Glee brought me here
this is so awkward
True, it would be SO much better with auto-tune...

Lea's voice in this part was really good! It was massively good!!!
They're all such good dancers, omg.
Ummm glee did a great job with Kiki, but the turkey lurkey part couldn't TOUCH this
Yeah Glee did a great job reviving this with mashup of lets have a kiki :)
"Glee" did an amazing mash-up with this and "Let's Have a Kiki"
Glee got me here...
Glee bring me here.
You must watch Seth Rudetsky's breakdown of Donna McKecknie in this video... It's on YT somewhere, but it will make you love this all the more.
the amount of lurkeying occuring in this video is mindgobbling
glee is gonna do this one..
