What does it mean to love your enemy? [Discovering God: Part 4]
Jesus’ radical example of loving our enemies, even those who betray us, shows us how to experience the transformative power of love over fear and hatred.
__________
Welcome to Crosscreek Community Church’s Podcast channel! Located in the Pacific Northwest, Crosscreek Community Church offers a welcoming online church community for those on a journey to discover their meaning in life, explore their doubts, ask questions, and discover more about God, Jesus, Christianity, the Bible, and more.
__________
If you’re new to the Crosscreek community check out our website for some helpful info… www.yourcrosscreek.com/
Main Ideas:
The voices around us have been desperately trying to convince us we have enemies all around us.
Loving our enemies seems like the stupidest, most unproductive thing in the world.
Jesus changed the world by insisting on loving his enemies.
Empathy opens the door to love.
Loving our enemies is a conscious choice to purposely do good for them.
Love pursues reconciliation over winning.
Jesus died to love his enemies.
We make excuses and don’t even try loving our enemies because we’re afraid.
When we are free of fear we are free to love our enemies.
When we love our enemies, we become a part of God’s mission of reconciliation.
Invitation:
Read Romans 12:14-21
Pray, “Let me see my enemy(ies) through your eyes.”
Find one way to purposely love an enemy this week.
Discussion Questions:
1. In what ways do you think our culture encourages us to see others as enemies?
2. What does empathy mean to you, and why might it be important in learning to love our enemies?
3. Read Romans 12:14-21 What fears come up when you think about loving your enemies? Why do you think we often resist this teaching?
4. What is one practical way you could love an “enemy” in your life this week?
5. How can your group pray with you this week?

My daughter says shes a believer , but , she can be mean , thinking shes better than everyone , ( WHY ? )
This is so true
Separate yourself from the wicked
Would you care to elaborate?
@ Proverbs 4:14-15 14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked or walk in the way of evildoers. 15 Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way. 1 Corinthians 15:33 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
Language is a massive red flag. You need to repent.
You mean the word “inclusive” is a red flag? God loving the whole world is a rather inclusive thing to do.

CHRIST SAID: “COME TO ME.” And seek yea thy fathers kingdom.
Good approach. That was unusually palatable.
😊 This is really helpful and encouraging - thank you!
So glad it helps! Thanks for commenting.

Oh my, Jesus is the way, truth, and life. His message was to repent of your sins and follow God. People are separated from God by our sins. By believing in Jesus, our sins can be forgiven and we can have a relationship with God. Jesus paid the price for our sins and that is the good news. You said a bunch of stuff that is meaningless with out the Gospel message. What do you enjoy about Jesus, oh my no. That is not Christianity and feelings have nothing to do with it. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling. Philippines 2:12
I'd disagree that feelings have nothing to do with it. For example, knowing Jesus should make you feel pretty joyful. If you check out the whole message on our podcast you'll see all of that is actually addressed. It's difficult to fit a full theological message in 60 seconds.
Not sure I agree with the premise... but ok....
What don't you agree with?

Give the people a chapter and verse on this not just your own opinions. Come on, brother.
Always a good idea... which is why I gave the chapter (Luke 15). You can also listen to the podcast if you're interested in the exegesis of the chapter.
Thank God someone is talking some sense about this 🎉❤👏🏼👏🏼
Glad top be helpful!
I'm new to the game and I have to say that only being a couple months in something's wrong with all these new revisions of the Bible.
Which revisions do you mean?

My heart is so broken over the “American church”. I can only speak from my view and what I have witnessed. I have attended a dozen churches the last few years partly because we moved to another state. Before I even step through the doors I can give you an order of the “events” on each Sunday morning at each church. For example : announcements, tithe, “worship” and sermon. I put worship in quotes because if you stand in back and observe virtually everyone is singing the songs because that is what you are supposed to do. It just seems like they are not remembering that they are singing about their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (hopefully anyway), or to their Heavenly Father with the filling of the Holy Spirit. This breaks my heart. And then as soon as the service is over everyone scatters back home because they got that off their checklist for another week. Ask them an hour after and virtually no one remembers a sermon. Pastors are worshipped. Gross. I have not been able to find a prayer group where people actually pray, not about their own wants and needs but praying for our lost neighbors and friends out there. Then there are small groups that rely too heavily on a book instead of the word of God! And videos. And then again 5 minutes of prayer thrown at the end before everyone goes home. Sorry this is sounding very negative. I believe that God is starting to shake the American church. ⛪️. This excites me. Only God knows what this will look like. I do not believe this church of today is what is best for his children. Where is the Ekklesia? The true one anothering, the everyone is just as important in the group, not a hierarchy of pastors and elders and other leaders. It is not supposed to be this way! We are supposed to learn from each other and love each other and share in one another’s lives. Thank you for listening. I don’t expect a response. I have reached out to others and I get ignored. lol. I continue to pray for the Ekklesia for America!
Thank you for your comment! I'm sorry you've had such a difficult time finding a church family, that can be so frustrating. I think you hit the nail on the head with "they got that off their checklist for another week." Whatever our gatherings look like, whatever order, etc. the difference is why we are there and why we are doing it. If we see it as something for us to just get a little God in our week, feel like better people, or get some kind of spiritual high, we're missing the whole point. But if we are gathering to be part of a community of Jesus-Followers and to create a place for those who are exploring and seeking and who are being drawn by God then we are becoming more and more of the true Ekklesia.

What will the podcast be under? I didn't see the church on Iheartradio. Will it be on there?
Great question. We actually aren't on iHeartradio...yet. For now, the episodes will be here on UA-cam, Apple podcasts, Spotify, etc.
Following Jesus used to be so nice before religion co-opted it... ;)
Right?

Jesus wrote nothing !!! So what exactly did he say ??? 18 missing years !!??!!
We have eyewitness accounts of what he said. I'd say that's pretty good for an ancient historical figure.
@yourcrosscreek you are correct, eyewitnesses is all we need ! Writings are so clear that explains why christianity is so divided in their understandings and doctrines.

Yes Sir.
while this is true, there are clear sins in the Bible that sometimes a party may push like killing children, having unnatural sex or marriages, or identifying contrary to how one was made
Respectfully, you're trying to play a mediator when one side wants you gone, and the other at least tolerates your existence. The far left political ideology is founded upon Marxism, which goes beyond typical Atheist thought, all the way to Anti-theistic worldviews and beliefs. You can love the soul and welfare of those who hate you, but you aren't called to tolerate attacks on your family and loved ones (whether physical, spiritual, mental, or through corruptive lawfare). Lastly, you should know your apprehension to political stances and ideology borders on blasphemy. God is a King. An absolute ryler with absolute authority. His word is law. The only law that counts. What He calls and abomination is an abomination. There's no debate or discussion. There is no middle ground. You're either with Him or you aren't. Trying to mediate between the Lord, who is rigtheous, and a world that is corrupt is not what christians are called to do.
so let me get this straight, one party at least attempts to support pro-life legislation, and the other party does not. And you think Christians can vote for the pro murder party? If Christ Jesus is leading you to pro abortion support, then that is not Christ.
Very true, but most conservatives believe in God's laws and believe that they are how we should live, most conservatives are pro-life, most liberals are pro-choice..... which one aligns with what the Bible says?! 👍 🙏

Are you kidding me you are referring to Andy Stanley's book. How about using a credible pastor like someone who preaches the Bible and doesn't twist scriptures to support Alphabet culture
You might not like him, but it’s still an important question to ask.
Amen!!!
