My parents didn’t apologize for anything . Their way of apologizing was buying us food or acting super nice later after they felt they were wrong . Now with my kids I will apologize to my kids whenever I’m wrong ,even to my 7 year old because they have feelings and I don’t want to affect their mental health.

In my opinion, even though Eve strived for her parents' attention, particularly her father's, she had a close relationship with her sisyer and did look up to her, because it seemed like Cicely had it all figured out. But Cicely was too messed up to be a role model. But Mozelle, in truth was the main one who paid attention to Eve. Her and her husbands couldn't have children and they felt connected to Eve because she was either the odd one out, she looked like Mozelle more than her parents, or because of the psychic counseling they were both born with. Because Eve didn't even mention that particular detail to her parents. Lewis didn't believe in the psychic craft, but Rozlyn did and still never sensed that behavior in her own daughter, because her first born was actung out, her husband wasn't home and his mistress was calling the house. She didn't even question whether Eve foresaw his affair, or she just up and caught him. Cicely could tell at the end, and said nothing. That clearly showed there was no way she was going to lie to her again. If Lewis divorced-- as Cicely put it, "Us"-- she would have tried to go with him, but would stay with Roz. I agree with you on that part whete a truth teller gets all the crap thrown at them for being honest. I myself can relwte to that personal. Because back in those days, that's how it was done. Now a days, peopke are just looking for an excuse to act like fools at let cruel abuse run it's coarse. Roz was sock of the emotional, mental and verbal abuse she was receiving from Lewis and his mistress, whom she allowed in her house. But she was more upset about how Cicely treated her for it. And Eve, was catching on,and took her frustrations out on both of them. Apparently, to the lot of them Rozlyn's happiness didn't matter whether she wanted a divorce. Since she was a 1960s house wife and stay-at-home mother, she didn't have any life skills to take care of herself and that summer, she became a bit suicidal and Eve wayched her cut herself from frustration. Which brings me right to the financial abuse. He became a little codependent on Roz and she expected him to take care of her when they met and got married. She didn't have any experience but to be a wife, same as a lot if girls in those days. He became sure if himself, working with white people at a hospital and feeling good that people, particularly women deoend on him a lot to take care of him. His wife, his patients, Maddie, his daughters. He enjoyed that feeling too much to pay attention to how it affected the females in his family.his youngest girl, just wanted to be acknowledged, his oldest was falling in love, and his wife wanted to be respected and was conflicted on whether or not she should make him leave. He worked in the beginning so she wouldn't have to work as a maid or whatever so they can keep their land and their rich, civilized lives. His views were about them needing him so his ego could be boosted to a point he forgets everybody and focuses more on himself and needs them for that, despite the fact that he loves his family. Elzora told Roz a soldier falls on his own sword. Roz didn't pay well enough attention to that fortune until the funeral. She was focused on whether his behavior would drive on of the kids to their deaths. She didn't think it'd be the other way around, and he'd die. But Eve thought it was on her that he was shot. The fortune clearly stated it wasn't on her, or Roz, or even Cecily, who's lie put her sister in that path to want him dead, anyway. Leeis in the end, did that to himself. Because Maddie's husband was his friend. That was the price he paid. They all paid. In the end, Eve had Mozelle and Cicely as her rock and was fine with that

I enjoyed watching you guys tackle this film, that’s been so important to the culture. It really is a huge plot line to tackle, with so much nuance and texture and challenging themes throughout. Good job, y’all, at parsing through that. As a young woman I felt that but Brandi and Mia was crazy for dealing D. But at 35 almost 36 I felt Brandi wasn't healed. D was definitely a dawg and played himself cause multiple times he could have let Brandi be. I am sadden for Mia because she cared for D.but she was sucked up into his webs too.

I’ve always connected with Justice on a level that runs much deeper than her nostalgic box braids and iconic wardrobe. Her overwhelming sense of abandonment and isolation resonates with my life completely. Not only that, but writing poetry is her one place of solace at a time when she is constantly misinterpreted and overlooked by others. Poetry is my life, and writing about my pain has often been my primary coping mechanism for several years now. I am so grateful for this classic film, I feel that it was written for women just like me. 🤎

Gotta mention that lucky had a reason to not trust women too. His baby mama could of made him bitter too. Chicago had a lot of insecurities but seemed to actually like her he even defended her from lucky talking trash. Once Chicago’s pride was hurt he lashed out. Esha seem to genuinely feel remorse for hurting Justice feelings. If you look at Justice in the beginning of the movie you can tell were her and esha friendship started. Lucky saying if he wouldn’t have stopped so much his cousin may have made it could be true but it was no one’s fault, things happen.

Why would he write her a letter when she's around all the time? He convieniently wrote her a letter instead of telling her this face to face, knowing she was the only person who could discern the truth and see thru him just like Eve, who was just like her. Also, Eve has the same gift of seeing and she would've been furious at Cicilly for lying and making her despise their father. Instead she embraced her and was there to comfort her.

Bull crap! Not surprised folks ignore your message. SHAME. Narrow-minded; & ur both actually promoting racism & a negetive stereotype. What ure saying mirrors what white racists would tell their kids. Im an old sista Hapilly married for 35 yrs to a Swiss-German. He's my blessing. We always had friends & friendly neighbors. My 30 yr old son has the best of both worlds! More than 50% of his friends are black & he has dated both & other races. Now engaged to a black American. This is 2024, not the 60s. You honestly sound like racists. Sad... Chances are your own kids may date or even marry whites bcos they are now exposed to more diversity, traveling & graining higher education. Prepare to deal with it. By the way divorce rate among blacks...? That's another sad chapter. ❤️ has no color....

Very thoughtful breakdown of what to really consider when looking at trauma. I hope this inspires someone who needs to hear who may be going through similar experiences. May they always be encouraged!

Y'all seem very forgiving for bad behavior for women, but have less empathy and grace for the men like most black women I have seen do these types of reactions. When men do these types of breakdowns they seem a lot more unbiased.
