The Freeborn
Приєднався 18 гру 2021
This channel is a response to the rampant legalism in the body of Christ. The word "freeborn" comes from Galatians 5:1 and John 8:36. Freeborn means "born into freedom." If you are a son or daughter of God, you have been born into freedom, but what does that mean practically in everyday life? What does it look like to be "free indeed" in Christ? This channel explores the vast, fascinating and life-giving topic of biblical freedom.
Legalism, Pt. 6 - Why You Know Better, But You're Still in Legalism EP 17 I The Freeborn Podcast
The title says it all.
Your eyes are now open, which means the cage door is open, but you are keeping YOURSELF in the cage now.
Why are you doing that?
We’ll tell you!
This episode dives into five possible reasons you’re staying in legalism. They probably sound like very good, responsible, even godly reasons, but they are lies just the same.
We share the wisdom and insight God gave us when we faced each of these lies.
We hope it shortens the amount of time it takes you to spread your wings and fly.

In this second installment of Part 5 - Forfeiting Covenant for Legalism - we dive into the story of the Israelites on the verge of the Promised Land. Having heard of its abundance and with the promise from God that He had given them the land, we feel the jarring shock and disappointment when they refuse to enter in because of unbelief. How could they be so foolish?! And yet, we are doing the ex...

What if our normal isn’t the way God designed it? Just because it’s always been a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the way it’s supposed to be. It is often hard to see the kind of water you’ve been swimming in until someone or something yanks you out of your fishbowl. That is the purpose of this episode - to help you observe your surroundings objectively and scripturally, to finally say out loud w...

The Bible Does NOT Teach Women Shouldn't Cut Their Hair
These podcasts are so very helpful. ❤
Ad hominem is practiced all the time. But I don't think we hear the word that often. Usually the word slander is used. But that's just my opinion. Sorry Ashley.
@@janicemorris1585 I think you’re right - it happens all the time, but people aren’t using the word.
I didn't even grow up in the church group that I left. And it was still so hard to leave. I can only imagine how hard it is for those who grew up in legalism to leave.
I left legalism way back in 1989. What I didn't understand was that I still took it with me. So I lived with so much guilt which led to me feeling like I didn't belong anywhere. The struggle was awful. But God was so patient with me. Since I've been watching the Freeborn podcasts, I've come to realize that I had made those legalistic beliefs and doctrines into idols. When I started to make it all about Jesus things and feelings started to fall in to place with the perfect Will of God. I'm not completely there yet but at least I'm not dealing with feelings of guilt and not knowing where I belong. I started asking God to bring me to a place where Jesus is proclaimed and exalted. I believe He has done this.
Freedom!!! We are 'the Unstuck'!

I really don't have enough words to describe how these podcasts are helping me as I journey out of legalism. Thank you so much for being obedient to Jesus. He is using y'all mightily.
Yay! I finally got caught up on all the podcasts so I’ve been anxiously awaiting this one!
hope you enjoy it!
On the topic of drug addicts who appeared to be changed and then fell out… could it be that they just replaced slavery of one thing (drugs) with another (rules) without the heart change that is lasting? To me that is also a big casualty here… how many people “Think” they are saved because the follow the rules? But have never had an encounter and transformation with Jesus Christ? Could the church be sending people to hell unknowingly???
@@carriemcclung4615 Replaced slavery to one thing to another - boom!
I just love how real you guys are being!! The world is looking for authenticity - especially in the Christian realm. You are both offering that each week! Thank you!
It makes perfect sense to me that the enemy would consider ways to infiltrate and corrupt the church, and that planting the seed that all of these rules and ‘standards’ would be the best way to do that, because what do they do? They cause division, and they cause conflict, they exclude, and they oppress. It’s so glaringly obvious. And he’s beguiling, and patient, the origin of this may have come from good intentions, but they were put in place by man, and he’s been watching mankind since the beginning, he knew exactly where this was going to lead, and it has, and just sits back and revels in it. Enough is enough xx
@@Charles_Darlington well put!
No one can dictate to you what your convictions have to be. I left the UPC so many years ago but didn't realize how much I took it with me. It made it so difficult to find what God wanted to do with me. I'm learning to walk in the freedom of His Grace now. He loved me all along.
I just love y'all and can hardly wait to see where God leads. ❤
Awesome Awesome Awesome podcast
Alone is exactly how I was feeling. Full of guilt.
Before I saw this episode I was drawn to the book of Colossians. I can't tell you how many times I've read the book but for the first time I actually read the book. The 2nd chapter especially spoke to my heart. What spiritual freedom when we not only read the Word but understand it and apply it to our lives. ❤
Awesome meat 😊
So good!
This is such an incredible, raw, vulnerable and beautiful, spot on message of this hour in which we live, in the hour of dismantling, to heal and restore, rebuilding the hearts and souls of humanity to our original design, in Christ.. the church is a representation of the body of Christ, we are the body, YES, it’s time to BE FREE to be who and do what we were created and put on this earth to do, together, as one.. God, bless every heart and mind that peeks into this chat, every heart and mind that hears this message with your love and tender mercies.. Amen
Following rules without consulting The Spirit ultimately deafens our sensitivity to hear Him guiding and coaching and inviting us to walk closer.

@@MadRiverHomestead we are honored you listened! That’s our prayer, too. “My sheep know My voice.”
ONE OF THE BEST RHINGS I EVER HEARD about getting a word from a man/woman of God is that you can honor and thank that person AND ALSO say internally or out loud, “I’m going to seek the Holy Spirit about that.”

Powerful message and so relevant.
My Dad was born in 1913. He was born left handed. My grandmother tied his left hand behind his back and made him write with his right hand. I can't prove this but I believe his mental issues went back to making him write with his non-dominant hand. When I realized my son, who was born in 1973, was left hand dominant I did nothing to change that. He is actually ambidextrous and quite smart and well adjusted in the LORD. ❤
@@janicemorris1585 wow!! Switching handedness is not a benign issue, and neither is legalism. Good job for letting your son be who he was designed to be.
I am currently going through that dismantling and renewal stage where I’m trying to reclaim my identity and turn away from a homosexual lifestyle. Being raised in a very legalistic church, it more or less catapulted me into the world, there was bullying both in church and in the Christian schools, it very much turned me off towards church for a few decades, but I am finding my way home now and also trying to unlearn all of that action based and conditional doctrine that I was raised in. That bullying and confusion was a foothold for the enemy to begin to twist my identity and steal it from me. Words are powerful, they can set in motion lifelong difficulties. Things are still difficult, but I know who I am in Jesus and I am trusting His process, but as a younger guy I often wondered why me? I was angry at God for decades, none of my other friends growing up struggled this way, and now that I’m committed, why does this persist? God could have delivered me in that moment of surrender, but I also know that sometimes He does this sort of thing in layers. If I were to have been delivered on the spot, first of all who would believe me, but also how could I be a help to others if I didn’t have to go through a hard and painful process in which all I can do is have faith and draw closer to God? He has a plan for me, and I’ll get there through His grace and guidance, but I also know that I need a support system of those who have gone through this, and that a healthy community of believers is very important for any person. I have very few Christian friends and none that deal with this, and that’s hard. I believe that this is the year of opened doors, and that so much more awaits. This video resonated with me, but this is my story. Thank you for speaking the truth and encouraging us all with your willingness to be used by God xx
@@Charles_Darlington you are being returned to factory settings as we speak! You will find your people, and you will create healthy community for others like you. I also want to thank my stepdaughter Tamie Besler Wallake for telling about these podcasts and walking with me through this journey. After way too many years away from each we were able to reconnect and help each other. I thank God for being with us.
I didn't even grow up in legalism but that doesn't mean it didn't have a grip on me. After only 12 years I left it and it had a hold on me for years. It kept me from my full potential for what God has for me. But time was not wasted and here I am.
I remember when my hair first started turning white. I was in my early 30’s. I really wanted to cover it, but I was told I wouldn’t be allowed to praise sing or be in the choir or teach anymore. It makes me sad now for that young woman. Who felt ugly and old before her time. I, too, was not going to allow my daughter to be bound by rules I didn’t understand. I was afraid that when she was old enough she would quit going to church. I am glad to be free, but I still struggle. I’m not bitter. But that is because of God’s grace for me. Keep obeying God’s leading! We are being encouraged!
@@MsMichele221 “a young woman who felt ugly and old before her time” - this is not a shallow, superficial statement whatsoever. Legalism, in my opinion, is a devastating attack against women and stripping them of that feeling of confidence and beauty is BY DESIGN. I hope to talk about this in further detail in a future episode. Women in legalism have been taught to believe that feeling confident and beautiful is a sin. Actually, a woman who feels confident and beautiful is a devastating force to the powers of darkness!
I love y'all and I'm so grateful for y'all listening to Him and obeying His voice.

Breaking away from rigidity in the form of legalism is not easy. But when you do you start to see everything so differently. At least that's what is happening to me. I'm no longer stuck in a place where I didn't even know where I belonged anymore. I'm so in love with Jesus.
This is so awesome and speaks directly to my heart. I'm 74, filled with the Holy Ghost September 12, 1975 but I'm being set free like never before.
