This is by far my favorite scene of this show when the queen talks to the duke. I rarely cry, but this is the hardest I've cried from a show. All the former king wanted was to be with whom he loved, they weren't perfect, but they had regrets, guilt, and wished for atonement for giving up the thrown, and betraying the other royals. That and the queens compassion and guilt behind her eyes of holding a grudge for so long. Just a very sad way to go out in life.
Edward V111 would have brought down the monarchy. He was a nazi sympathizer and was passing secrets to the nazis. He wanted his own country to fall so he could be reinstalled King over his brother. He was a traitor to his people, and living in France was a gift when he should have been in prison. All this Wallis crap may have a lot of truth to it, but he would have been a terrible King. His brother, His Late Majesty King George, was the rightful ruler.
"What a King he would have made" C est une blague??? Il aurait vendu l Angleterre a Hitler. Non mais sans blague...Charles etait donc aussi stupide que ça??? C est à espérer que cette partie là au moins est du domaine de la fiction😡😡😡🙄
They got the look on Wallis Simpson’s face correctly when her husband died. She knew that without him, she would be broke and alone. And she was. I’m so glad that the Queen lived as long as she did. The years took the ‘crazy and selfishness’ out of Charles, for the most part. And the cancer diagnosis took whatever he had left. He got to keep his girl, and he was able to make her a Queen. But in the process, the whole world has judged Charles for what he is . . . a selfish man who only serves himself. And he’s paying for that now in low opinion polls - that I’m sure he doesn’t care about. Monarch’s as servants of the people was a new way to rule, and in the declining early-20th century kingdom QE2 handled it brilliantly. And children of icons rarely measure-up. Let’s hope that William is more like his grandmother and less like his father.
Oh shut it. You’d eat your left foot to be a quarter as relatable, vulnerable and resilient in the face of public worldwide adversity the way KC3 has endured in his life. It’s so easy to pass comment and hold people to past mistakes and errors yet I’d love to see how you and the rest of this comment section would hold up to the scrutiny and ridicule if they were given the fortunate position of having each one of their life’s failures and shortcomings made public on full display. Much of the boldness stems from the anonymity.
Have they forgotten about the Marburg files and the Nazi salutes and appeasement from Season 2? Here Edward is the unconventional freethinking progressive that might have been.
If, as many are saying, the Duke of Windsor's death scene and Charle's letter are fabrications, I think there should be disclosure of that fact. It is one thing to fill in the gaps of historical personages lives with inventions, but it is another thing to do this with living people. If Charles never wrote such a letter, than this is a very unfair portrayal of him.
Pure cinema! Wallace wasn’t by her husband’s side when he died, his nurse was. She treated David horribly. History and the truth is stranger than fiction!
Peter Morgan made a whole hour of television about Edward VIII without once mentioning the fact that he was a Nazi collaborator. Not a bloody "sympathiser," a COLLABORATOR. Oh, we just ignore that, do we? That's not pertinent? I don't know how Morgan can look at himself in the mirror after doing that. I would hang my head in shame. This show presents itself as history, a lot of people seem to take it as history, and it drives me nuts that it's such transparent monarchist propaganda.
I hope someday someone has the courage to tell the world on screen what happened to her (dutchess wallis) post Edwards death. I know to many she is seen as the villain, but her final years after Edwards death, you wouldn't wish that on your worst enemy
Charles has one thing in common with Edward. He cares more about himself than the Crown. Its why he'll be as shit a king as Edward was, and the exact reason why his mother, who is nothing like them, was such an excellent monarch.
It's a good thing this is fiction. If Charles said that about the Nazi collaborator and traitor Edward, it would be disqualifying.

Problem was charles didnt have all the facts about the former King Edward at that time. no doubt he does now
The Crown is a Load of Deluded Tosh. Get a Life and Give this a Miss.
Season 2 "how can you ever forgive yourself for helping the nazis in ww2" Season 3 "despite our differences you've always been my favorite uncle"
The trouble is that Edward was a Nazi and that shall follow him for all time...
Nazi collaborator and traitor to his nation. Otherwise, a great guy.
I honestly can’t imagine that Wallis was that upset. I think she would have felt relief given she didn’t really want to marry him.
David y Wallis si se vengaron de la corona y les salió tan bien que una amante ahora es reina
In reality the Duke of Windsor died on the loo after a massive curry, took them a week to unblock it
Edward the simp.

BUT he also was a Nazi sympathiser
Was that Diana in the bath 🛁, if so, I didn't realise she smoked.
Yes, idolize the Nazi idolizing former king.

Charles forgets, or is not aware of, his uncle's treasonous behavior.
The letter and these conversations were made by netflix
@@hazmat7949 : So?
"I will not be denied what you have been denied" And now King Charles III has Queen Camilla by his side!
So pretty much all of the Royals died from smoking like chimneys?
Wallace - the greatest fag hag in history.
Please read what I said. I said that they weren't the governmental force behind Apartheid. But that the British weren't blameless.

Edward was a Nazi. It was fortunate that the Wallis issue was used as an excuse.
Chuck really is ruled by a scullery maid.
The man was a wastrel, a Nazi collaborator and arguably a traitor. Ironically, the world owes a lot to Wallis Simpson.
Fun fact if edward doesn't abdicate, elisabeth she would become Queen in 1972
No matter how you feel about Wallace Simpson as a historical figure to see her so devastated over Edward's death was just heartbreaking 😢.

Wallis was not at her husband's deathbed in reality
Netflix version of history.
It goes to show that Charlie was having an affair with Cammy. She was in his bath and that was 9 or 10 years before he met Diana
Is this the best scene of the all series? Love it... And the soundtrack 😍
very sad
Que temporada es y episodio 😊
What a brilliant actress Geraldine Chaplin is. When she cried, I cried with her.
The best role Geraldine Chaplin do after Chaplin as her grandmom Hannah.
That's The Crown! No the last seasons
There is no former, he was/is and shall forever more be, *King.*
This soundtrack is so damn powerful. Hope it will appear again in the last season.

Is this the second time Olivia and Derek have worked together after Murder On The Orient Express?
Geraldine Chaplin was amazing in this! Wow!
One of the best scenes in the whole show
Charlie Chaplin would have been proud.
If Charles really said that , the Queen would split his wig for sure, probably have the PM bust his cheeks wide open in front of the Commonwealth
Edward sorta died like King George, he died in his sleep and they came in not expecting it.
