United States
Приєднався 26 лют 2018
We sell historic log cabins and barns that we restore and sell as material packages or kits to people who want to own one of these antique structures. We provide complete design service to assist with space planning and architectural design. We will also work together with your architect to help create one of a kind restored log or barn home projects.
As you have seen from many of the videos here we also do onsite restoration of old log cabins and barns for folks that already own one of these old treasures.

I restored 3 log structures here so far doing a combination of log repairs and chinking. We used acrylic chinking on them but that will cost a lot more than masonry chinking so I will give them two options

Interior concerns on this 40 year old handscribed log home
Переглядів 291Місяць тому
While inspecting the interior of this log home the owner expressed concern about recent checking or cracks in the logs that have appeared. I concluded that they are not structural and to have a humidifier installed on the furnace to see if it has any effect this winter.

Always interesting. Thanks for posting.
Absolute idiots. I really hope no one else watches this. Good way to lose customers.
Thanks for explaining your work.
Always fun to see the projects you inspect. Sharing history one maintenance project at a time!
Thanks for posting this. It happens to all of us.
Stay safe!
What a beautiful piece of art!
Lovely result. Thanks for explaining the process.
Looks great 👍
Non existent bracing on those corners, your looking at multiple blowouts and a whole mess of concrete to pick up. Don't go light on timber bracing 4*1 or 4*2 brackets at all corners of the building in and out respectively
Cement does not equal concrete. Careful work should involve careful conversation. SMH
What product is used for chinking and backer/filler between logs I am trying to figure out what to use for my old cabin which has mud chinking backed with small pieces of wood used as filler
Sashco makes a product called Log Jam.. Highly recommended
@richardalbright5397 i use grip strip or polyiso foam for backer foam and either Log Jam or permachink chinking. The secret is getting the surface clean enough to eat off and not put on too thick so it sags and the top gets too thin.
@@barnsandlogcabins I agree! Picking the right day that its not too warm or powerfully sunny is also part of the secret
THose Amish do it a lot harder than some around me. There is a Amish/Menonite/English lumberyard, with Amish living on site, with the Amish being the predominant employees, but having "English": to run the forklifts and computers in the office. I did see an oddity of an Amish guy running the roofing metal forming machine machine, but in the past week I've also seen an Amish guy using a self-checkout at Lowes(not given much choice as having an open cashier checkout available is very rare.
Hi Mark. Good to see you are still at it.

I'd be fascinated to see how this could possibly be repaired or replaced without tearing down the entire house
Very very nice

Congrats on the 1K subscribers 👏
Terrible design and too slow to do something about it without it costing a fortune
How would you even go about replacing logs in a home? Remove them one by one like Lincoln logs?
Salam suport bro🎉🎉
where are you located?
If we only knew what way water falls....
As a former contractor, I can tell you the most vulnerable part of any wood member is the end grain. Wood is pretty resistant to water on its face, but the end grain is like a giant sponge, soaking up any water that gets to it! Always seal the end of the wood and it will perform much better.
Let's see how you repair it please! I see this on 90% of the log homes I work on. Owners of log homes just let things go way too far before they address the issues. I can't wrap my head around it.
If you don't know how to build a house, don't do it.
We sealed ours yearly when we lived in a log home. Was a pain but necessary, part of general maintenance.
One simple rule : function before form.
Well done, young man.
My house is brick 30 years still looks the same
The hard was but damn it's satisfying.
Crazy that the builder wouldnt have the foresight to put large overhangs covering any exposed wood. You can get away w/ it in dry arid enviorments but not any areas w/ lots of rainfall and mild winters.
That looks EXPENSIVE!
This is a problem with most types of modern construction/architecture. The overhanging roof is has been eliminated from a lot of modern designs which causes endless problems. A big reason why a lot of older homes last as long as they do is due to the fact that the entire structure of the house was protected by an overhanging roof and not torch on or metal.
