Outdoor enthusiast and a Leave No Trace Trainer, I unabashedly love waterfalls, wildflowers, a bit of harmonica and Earl Grey Tea.
Hiking to Swan Creek Cascades Waterfall, Athens, Alabama
A walk up Swan Creek listening to the sound of the water with fall leaves. Eventually one comes to a small cascade/waterfall on the creek. Athens, Alabama #hiking #waterfall #travelvlog

CCC Tower, West Overlook, Stone Wall, Fort Mountain State Park, Georgia
Переглядів 20Місяць тому
Ever heard of the Moon-eyed People? The story goes this group of Cherokees built the almost 900ft long stone wall atop the mountain here, thus giving it the name Fort Mountain. The loop trail you can do takes you along the wall itself, past the CCC Tower, and to one of the best overlooks I've ever seen, a stunning view west. #hiking #travel #georgia If you like, please subscribe! Nice shots.
Thanks!
This looks and feels just amazing my friend!
It is a very beautiful area!
Hey, Sam. What do you think the diameter is of the trees that are sitting on Turkeyfoot Falls?
Probably 18-24 inches if I had to throw a wild guess
Such a atmospheric solo hike my friend! Love it
It’s a great little spot to explore!
Great video! Any idea what the water level was when you did it or what time of year?
This was late April…. Water level was around 3.5ft if I remember right? Low in spots at that point but never drug.
Hi! Trying to figure out how to get there to see the tree.
At the Bear Creek Trailhead, go north on the Pinhoti trail (there’s a small sign) instead of south on the Bear Creek Trail. A little ways in the trail splits, stay to the right. There’s a sign here that helps too. There are several creek crossings, low this time of year and it’s a little more than three quarters of a mile to the tree itself.
im headed to site 3 this weekend, thanks for the peak !
It’s a great place but bears are extremely active right now. We had a mama bear and cub come into our camp. They weren’t aggressive but didn’t want to leave. We were very clean about food too. The bear boxes work great though.
Beautiful video! It's really hard to hear you though
Yeah sorry about that! I’m not sure what was going on with the audio and couldn’t figure out how to fix it in editing!
Is this the site that has been closed for well over a year?
I don’t know, this is video I took about four years ago just getting around to posting.
I bet the creek would be awesome in a good rain storm. Nice little trail
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks!
Very nice. No yammering. I like no yammering.
That’s basically how I try to approach these videos. I’d rather hear the sounds of the woods than me yakking about stuff.
That last bit of the video with the water and the lake.... Where exactly is that spot located? If I'm allowed to ask that..
It’s roughly here if I remember right. It’s on this dirt road that’s kind of a loop (31.9790862, -85.0722603)
That’s pretty cool
I think you’d enjoy that town. A lot of interesting history. I wish I’d had an entire day to explore it all.
If you ever want to come see the cave or the ruins let me know.
Would definitely like to see it next time I’m up that way!
I gotta say, That is a pretty good size tent., It looks more like a shape of a church bell. Pretty cool though. I also like those big pockets inside the tent. 👍☺
It's Cheek Bend, not "Cheeks."
www.tn.gov/environment/program-areas/na-natural-areas/natural-areas-middle-region/middle-region/duck-river-complex.html
I worked on the archaeological survey at Cheek Bend in 1978. It was owned by the Cheek family until TVA took it for a dam reservoir area. Luckily the dam was never completed.
Yes please
Did you do a cannonball?
Had it not been flooded I would have considered it!
💚💚💚
Hello! I am planning on going there next week. Where can I park to start this “trail”? Also, how long did it take you to get to the waterfall? How many miles more or less? Thanks !
This is where I parked. I’ve since learned I was sort of straddling the edge of private land here. Falls was about three quarters of a mile in. Last bit was extremely steep.
Maybe do this over? Best of luck!
I’m not sure what you mean by do this over, but one day I’d like to revisit the park for sure.
Beautiful video! Where is this located in Bankhead?
19:07 rt of cntr
16:29 eye under orange log
14:50 giant face of rock almost looks like the eye is looking at you @14:56
Yep I find so many faces out there. Forest protectors I call them
8:21 rt of tree to rt top head and giant hands
7:32 top center 2 large man beings with there backs turned
2:41 top right wicked looking hand or foot
most will not see them in the thumbnail
💋 *promo sm*
I did this same loop with several other people a couple months ago. Such a fun hike!
I employ thermal imagery gear. To locate expelled but otherwise invisible cave atmosphere. Me? Organized speleology since 1964. Exploring 2024 Karst found above the Salish Sea
Cool!
Horsethief LIDAR Flythrough. Montana cartography. Over 10 miles of length. Did a week inside same. Also recommend the NSS Detroit Urban Grotto. Who have key entry to +100 miles of their cartography@@weathermansam
👍👍👍
Thank you for taking us along with you
Glad you enjoy them!
First again! Really enjoy you taking us along on these adventures
Glad you enjoy them!
Thank you 🌿
Always an unsettling feeling for me when I walk across the soft ground of a sink. I imagine how far it might actually go below.
I’m very lucky I didn’t snap my leg this trip from stepping in a hole. And the ground in the sink was that weird level of soft I don’t care for too.
First lol
How do you open or close the top vents? Seems to me you’d have to get a ladder lol. Have you had a chance to test it in rain? Thanks for the video.
Great shots of the bog in the fog!
Thanks! It was quite a trip!
Glad you were able to get out and see the ice. I wanted to, but just couldn't get out until it was nearly gone!
👍👍👍
From the West Coast, have friends in the area. Looks like fun.
It’s a neat little spot, deeper than it looks!
Good video, just got back from over there this afternoon. It’s a great place.
Yep one of my favorites!
Good intro to the CRATA trails along the Tallapoosa River and Lake Martin area, thanks to all the CRATA leaders and volunteers. Enjoyed seeing the area's flora up close. Along with all the other closeups of the trail and waters. I've enjoyed hiking these trails many times.
almost explored this last week but didnt bc private property.....then i noticed the comment on the other video
None of this was private land that I recall. Buttram Gulf is or the headwaters are, I learned after the fact. Viewing it on a topo map even that is debatable though.
@@weathermansam yea, I might have misread the map
I love Old Stone Fort, but I haven't been up there for almost 15 years!! Thanks for sharing! 👍
It’s a favorite spot of mine around here, and so many other waterfalls in the area too
Nice water feature in that place. Park me a hammock by the water and drift off
I need to start doing that
We’ve visited there before. It’s hard to appreciate how quiet and smooth those old pulleys are on video. Still working as good as the day they were built. Engineering marvel.
It really is. Such a fascinating place with so much to look at.
