The To&Through Summit: 2024 Preliminary Presentation
In the Autumn of 2024 The To&Through Summit gathered community members, practitioners, and leaders from across our city for a day of learning, celebration, and collaboration. We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Educational Attainment of Chicago Public Schools Students report written in collaboration with the UChicago Consortium on School Research. After the data presentation we celebrated the power of storytelling and student voice with Marvyn Estrada. We then ended the preliminary presentation with a Fireside Chat with Dr. Elizabeth Todd-Breland , Associate Professor of History at the University of Illinois-Chicago and Vice President of the Chicago Board of Education, and Dominique McKoy, Executive Director of the To&Through Project. Their discussion contextualized 10 years of To&Through’s work and explored how research can help strengthen equitable college pathways for CPS Students.

@@yuuluvmyaaa notice how you gave no counter argument. You're a racist, not the pejorative "them". "For those who seek find" doesn't only apply to good things. Studied show more whites are targeted or people of the same color of the officer including Hispanic for Hispanic as they serve in their own communities. Mass hysteria is a thing. And fear sells. If you look to be oppressed and a victim you will be. You'll never be able to see anything else. Free college, get outta jail free cards for murder. None of it is enough apparently. We love to encourage this in black students. The truth is that getting shot by a cop is very rare... especially if unarmed. And whites are shot more than blacks. These kids are hunted in their imagination... and missing out on real life
no. the truth is, that we make up less than 15% of the population, but one of us still goes out for every 2 white people.
Oh pls not u being part of the racism problem
One of the reasons that we are so far away from eradicating racism is because of people like you, who by all account, give the impression of a quintessential racists. Until Caucasians are willing to fully comprehend, understand, and empathize with the plight of Black Americans and accept the horrific facts of racism that Black Americans have known existed for centuries-only then can the ugly head of racism begin to be severed. When a Black American tell their truth and their truth is minimized and devalued because of blindness, be it deliberate or inadvertent, makes it no less racism. In your pathetically gross misguided intentions, you stated the following: 1.) Getting shot by a police officer is very rare? (Especially if unarmed) 2.) Whites are shot more than blacks? 3.) Accused kids of color of being haunted by their own imaginations about their perception of racism? Please let me help educate you. These are the REAL facts from Statista and Fatal Force regarding police shootings by race from 2017-2021: White US population 236.5 mil (60.7%) Black US population 41.99 mil (13.4%) 2017 total fatal police shootings 986 - Whites killed 399 (41%) Blacks killed 209 (22%) 2018 total fatal police shootings 990 - Whites killed 457 (46%) Blacks killed 223 (22%) 2019 total fatal police shootings 999 - Whites killed 370 (37%) Blacks killed 235 (24%) 2020 total fatal police shootings 1,021 - Whites killed 457 (45%) Blacks killed 241 (24%) 2021 (Currently) total fatal police shootings 371 - Whites killed 122 (33%) Blacks killed 71 (19%) 1) As you can see from the statistics above, getting shot by police is not so rare as you naively believe. 2) Especially you said if unarmed. You might want to review this taken from Gonzaga University: In Memoriam: The Unarmed List of Black People Killed by Police from 2009 to Present. Because I got exhausted, I personally stopped counting at 100! 3) You are PARTIALLY right that more whites have been shot by police. BUT I made it a point to highlight ALL the numbers for a reason. Look very closely at the numbers. Black Americans only make up 13.4% of the US population BUT in 2017 (22%) were killed by police. 2018 (22%). 2019 (24%). 2020 (24%). 2021 (19%). What those numbers mean is that Black Americans are, by far, much more disproportionately killed by police than whites. Black Americans are not only killed by police at a rate of 2.5 times(minimally) greater than whites but it also is, minimally, an 11-point discrepancy! Now knowing just some of the REAL facts should have shed a new light into not only that extremely talented and articulate black teen plight of racism but all Black Americans who have to deal with racism and people like you every day of their lives! Many white people lament for Black Americans to get over it? The past is the past? BUT the same mentality that created slavery is still alive and well today and NEVER allows a Black American to get over it and forget it. You don’t know someone else’s journey until you’ve walked in their shoes. Until you do, try to at least empathize with the unknown instead of minimize and devalue the journey they’ve walked in their shoes.
