Open Dependent vs. Independent Movement with the Forehand
Dependent Movement:
Definition: Dependent movement in tennis involves a more controlled and sequential process where the player gets their hands up, loads the body, holds that load, and then rotates and accelerates to swing. This type of movement is more deliberate, allowing for precision and power in the shot.
Example: When preparing for a groundstroke, you position your hands, load your weight onto your back foot, hold that position, and then rotate your body and accelerate through the swing.
Independent Movement:
Definition: Independent movement is characterized by a more fluid and continuous motion where the player turns, steps, and hits in one seamless action. This movement is often employed when the player is on the run and needs to maintain momentum while executing the shot.
Example: Running to reach a wide shot, turning your shoulders as you step into the ball, and hitting the shot all in one continuous motion without pausing to load or hold.
These distinctions highlight different approaches to movement in tennis, with dependent movement emphasizing control and power, and independent movement focusing on fluidity and momentum.

Awesome video!!
So… I’ve found 23.5 things I do wrong. 👍
Hello where did I you get that mat? Very good tool
It’s very hard to hear what they are saying…. So is the key to powerful shots staying open then swinging across the body in a loop?
sexy
The music is distracting and unnecessary, in my opinion. Enjoyed the advice, thank you.
Thanks bru!
very good forehand eficient and good looking
The backswing is nowadays almost straight back but at shoulder height with wrist cocked up and arm pronating right before striking the ball. Reverse C pattern is good for teaching beginners and intermediates. But the game has become so fast adjustments are needed.
Very good video
I will certainly check my volley grip with reference to this instruction. Very good. Thank you!
Great video
How do you do anything "modern" when you are hitting with a continental fh grip?
Who else hits circular?
Its Jannik….
It's Jannik, not Yannik

Very good analysis
One more good video by coach Eagleton
Love this, you make it easy for us to learn this, but very crucial lesson
I'll try that out. Can I suggest a small outdoor Bluetooth microphone.
Great tip
He is a great man
This is great
Love this drill!
Serve placement is key. More important than power.
Great analysis
His forehand is his biggest liability. It is better than 99% of players yes but it prevents him from being a consistent grand slam threat due to its lack of consistency in back to back matches. I would love to see him use a simpler technique with a more conservative grip.
love this analysis and his forehand is amazing
Great video
Good video
It starts with the fingers!! Love John’s energy ❤
Jeff Salzenstein is a great coach
Yes
very good video
great video
A good serve routine is critical to having a consistent serve that will deliver under pressure.
