Tri Rail Cabcar 511 In New Wrap, New NF K5LA On Amtrak & FEC ATIV 2414 At Boynton Beach 1-6-25
In this video, we first see two Tri-Rail trains as they meet at Ocean Ave in Boynton Beach. Over at Boynton Canal, we see southbound Amtrak train P097-05, the Silver Meteor with Amtrak 137 sporting a fairly new NF K5LA horn. Near the same spot, we see a northbound Tri-Rail train with cabcar 511 leading in the new wrap. Finally, at NE 6th Ave, we see northbound FEC freight train 208-06 with new track geometry locomotive ATIV 2414, former FEC SD40-2 719. This is known as an Autonomous Track Inspection Vehicle. Meeting this train is a southbound Brightline train.

About time we finally get our third New Scheme Old Cab in service. And if saw the other clips of it, you’d see it’s still got a really good K5LA on it. And it is odd that it too ended up with the “Frowning” Door Stripes like 507. Though, as 511 did replace 502 on this consist, there’s a pretty good chance that 502 now won’t return again until it too gets the New Scheme, so this might mean that 506 is now the final Old Scheme UTDC Cab, so get your shots of that unit while you still can.

501 has been in the New Scheme since September, but it still hasn’t run again since, and as of now, it currently still has no mirrors.

Good thing is that there are a a few of them out there still with good k5las as of today
Yeah these NF K5s are getting harder to find these days, but fortunately sometimes they do reappear. My theory is Amtrak may be removing the originals to be completely rebuilt or sold instead of simply fixing them. The best ones you hear nowadays such as on this one, 54, and 63 are fairly recent installs which may be new old stock or completely rebuilt from different units.
@casualrailfan9856 if P40DC #816 Was still here today it still would've remained as the #1 unit for having the most path-breaking k5la in Amtrak......... But I'm grateful we still have these 2 units still around

Hi! I posted a tutorial that breaks down how this horn is made a few months back. It can be time consuming, but if you've got plastic bottles, straws, saran wrap, and tools, go for it!

Why would a grand trunk western locomotive be in Florida? I understand that 6325 is not operating right now in Sugar creek Ohio but there would not be a point in bringing it here. Not trying to rain on your parade though.

I honestly think this route should stay like that. The Northeast already has more than enough trains between New York City and Washington DC, and the Silver Star and Silver Meteor seem to go the same way despite having different sections on their line.
I agree with you. Besides, we already got the proposed future Brightline extension to Tampa anyway. At least there's a train that goes there. :)
