Splitting Some Maple & White Oak Rounds Into Firewood
Nice work ! And I love the doggo ! 😂. Groov’n tunes as well - Enjoy!
Great video! Ive burnt pine for years in my wood stove. I clean the pipe once a year and the soot ain’t bad at all. It is everywhere out here in California. I dry it down to 15%. I split thicker to slow down the burn and damp down the stove. My burn times are decent.
Good to hear!
I burn anywood it just need to be seasoned. Mostly i do pine, spruce and birch mix 😊
@@Ketis1985 there you go, I burn whatever fits in the stove and is seasoned. I'm not going to complain about wood especially when it's free for me.
Hey man I have this exact same pc and my graphics card went bad the one that came with it Would something like a 1050 work good with this computer? What do you think I should get that would work best with the original power supply because I do not want to change that lol
@@mechapolarz9434 what's your budget and are you located in the us?
@@patjackie1256 my budget is around 100 I don’t need anything to nice And yes I’m in the US
@@mechapolarz9434 You could get a used 1660 super for about that much or a little less on ebay or you could save around 50$ more for a used 6600. Both would be a nice bump to your system, personally though I'd choose the 6600 as it will perform better and has a bit more vram.
@@patjackie1256 now would that 6600 work with the power supply the pc comes with?
@@mechapolarz9434 Yeah, shouldn't have problems with running it. It requires 1 8pin connection, but it doesn't draw a ton of power even at max.
Cinnamon raisin toast she's a real one...lol
From Quebec Canada , Hey, how many cord you burn in a whinter, My house is 32 by 28 and 2 floor , I burn 15 to 20 ful cord but I only heat whith my wood stove 24 X7 . I juste whant to compair I know you dont have week onder -40 like we have , and I start My stove at the end of august , to june and I cline my cheminey 1 in January .
@@danielbourdage5245 about 4 - 4.5 depending on the temps. My stove runs all winter long here in MA, but our winters aren't nearly as bad as yours are. We also have hardwoods where I'm at so that let's use reload less. Our home is just under 2400sq and it heats the whole house. We also don't start the stove until the end of October or early November.
From Quebec Canada , yes you are right , and I burn when is test 11 or lest never have trouble .
@@danielbourdage5245 👍🏾
As long it's seasoned u can burn pine
@@michaelcarver540 agreed
Doing this build in 2024, $650 all in including shipping and tax for everything. Crazy the amount of performance you can get for such little $ now
Yo tengo una mi amigo aquí en chile la madera es un poco dura pero muy buen equipo la oregon de 25 toneladas
I've been running my VC Defiant for about a month now and concur with everything you said. Takes me one to two hours to get it to optimum heat, but thereafter it's easy to keep at optimum and close the damper to get the benefit of the catalytic burner throughout the day. You just have to remember to keep an eye on the temperature gauge and throw in another log when the coals start to burn down a bit. The design will look good in the lounge room all year round, even when there's no lovely warm flame.
Glad you're enjoying the stove! I grew up with an older defiant in my parents house that is still in use today, I think theirs was from the 90s?
Great video!! Pine is Fine!! Seasoned as you recommend !!
Thanks for your video. I’m considering a Dauntless. I have a small cabin w some weird dimensions. 1st floor is 500 square feet with living room having 13 foot high ceilings. There are 2 small bedrooms upstairs , each 100 sq ft. Any thoughts on how this stove might fair in a space like that?
Thank you! I’m always looking out for free firewood - side of road, neighbors, transfer station etc. Someone told me” you can’t burn pine” I replied “really would you burn Pine if your family was cold”. Neighbors know I’m always looking for firewood, sometimes they will joke about it but considering my electrical company sends out one of those usage reports and my heating/electrical bill was 70% less then similar houses in the neighborhood-it’s worth it!
Exactly, I take any and all wood if it's free. Heat is heat. One year I burned 90% pine and 10% birch and cherry. No problems, only thing is pine burns fast so I had to reload more often, but I didn't care. I was toasty in my home.
You might appreciate this , I’m fully stocked for firewood for next winter, It took me 3 weekends from my the last wood stove burn to replenish ,chop, and stack -our local transfer station had free brush, wood dumping..so picked up mulberry, juniper, cedar etc , all free. ( you get a bit OCD) lol lol
@@sergios973 love to see it! You can never have enough, but im glad you're stocked for winter!
Just purchased this log splitter today. And your videos are what pushed me over the edge. I have been doing a lot of research between the “less expensive “ log splitters and the $4000 higher end splitters. The Briggs and Stratton motor and the Honda motor are the major difference, IMHO. That, and made in America. But all the High End splitters that I have been looking at are made in Canada. So, in a nut shell. Thanks for the videos and I will report back in a years time when I have 6-7 Cord split with my new Oregon. 👍🚜🚜👍
Glad I could help you with the decision!
Sweet
I’m tryna get into gta rp I have the same pc but rp is horrible on there should I buy a new one or upgrade my current pc?
Depends on your budget, if you have the cash i'd build a new one as this one does lack in some significant areas, if you don't have the extra cash. Then I'd add an additional stick of ram and swap the gpu which will get you up and running quickly and is more cost effective as you could do it for about 300$ with a 6600 or 6600xt
Dry wood creates creosote if you don’t give it enough air. Problem with green wood is it requires much more air and even a cracked open stove door to burn properly in some cases. Then most your heat is going up the chimney and not into your house so a waste of wood at best and a future chimney fire at worst.
Thank you for the video, I have the same stove but when I load it front the top I get smoke coming out the top. I am thinking I need the direct vent for the make up air
It helps to crack it for a second before opening it. I generally can load it one handed from the top with my other hand holding it open, I do sometimes get a little smoke inside the house, but its not enough for me to really be concerned, but cracking it before opening it helps a bit
Great videos-Any complaints with the splitter? Thinking about buying a gently used one.
Nope! It runs great, only thing I've done was an oil change so far and its powered through everything I've thrown at it. Even some horrible, knotty elm. I mostly am splitting, oak, maple, pine, birch, and ash, but its handled everything. Larges round I've split was 35in in diameter and it powered through it like butter. I'd buy it again 100%
@@patjackie1256Awesome man, definitely no shortage of knotty oak here in NC. Thanks for the quick reply!
@@SundownFarms2024 Anytime! Definitely a good investment if you are cutting a lot of wood like me, speeds up the process of splitting, though I do still split by hand when i get good straight rounds, just because I've always loved doing it. Glad I could help!
If your inlet air to the stove is not connected to outside air, you'll feel a draft from your windows. If you connected your air source to the outside you won't. By connecting the fresh air outside you create a positive pressure keeping cold air outside.
in many areas pine and juniper may be the only options. We use pine to start our fires and maybe take the chill out of the air in the mornings. Fires we want to last the night and keep a steady warmth we throw a couple big logs of juniper that will last the night.
I just pocked up a very nice condition Vermont Castings Resolute from the 1980s. Solid cast iron through and through. Came with side retainer grates/warming shelves, everything in good working order, lots of stove tools, and pipe, $500. While it's a traditional stove without secondary burn or catalytic burner they're well built stoves rated for 1600sqft. It's a shame the new VC build quality has declined so much since the buyout. Can't wait to have my chimney installed so i can start heating. Grea up hauling and splitting wood.
I have been heating my house with 90% lodgepole pine for forty years now with no issues. Bark beetle killed trees that dry standing.
I love it because in my neck of the woods people hate it. I'm sitting burning some spruce and hemlock right now, it's been drying all summer and his dry as can be now. I've seen so much stuff about people saying pine will blow up your stove when in fact there's areas in the world where thats all they have, I've burnt it for years.
Welllll....she did not look that overjoyed having to do the stacking...........🤣🤣🤣🤣
Is this graphics card still good for that pc in 2023? or do you recommend something and could you send the link to that one just to keep it in my list
I would recommend a 6600, 6600xt, or 3060 depending on your budget. If you're really tight on cash, then you can go for this card, but the 6600 and 6600xt are the best value right now
This was huge help thanks bro ❗️❗️🙌🏽👌🏽👍🏽
At the 5:40 mark that plastic cover you removed drove me nuts when I was trying to install. I didn't know it needed to be removed. LOL. I was like this is too fat to fit in that slot. After a while I realized it was a protective cover. They should of put a pull tab on it.
Still on the stock motherboard?
No I've since built a new pc
Nice work 👍
Stacking is the worst part for me, I don't know why. I have to get motivated to do it!!!!
I find it somewhat relaxing, splitting and running my chainsaw are top favorite. For stacking I just throw on some music and stack at my own pace. I try not to more than a cord to stack otherwise it seems like it's going on forever haha
That is wonderful stock you have there. Lots of work! Good to see someone unafraid to use their hands nowadays. Keep it up.
Thank you! I grew up hand splitting with my dad and sister, I have a log splitter, but I always have loved swinging an axe! Thanks for watching!
@@patjackie1256 I really like the music too. Many blessings, Pat and Jackie!
Would a 6600xt work with the Mini 9300 built in psu?
Yes, the 6600xt doesn't have a high power draw so it should be fine
@@patjackie1256 Thank you! I just bought a open box condition Element mini 9300 with i3-10105f, 480gb SSD, 8gb ram, and (sound like a joke but it’s 4real) gt 710 1gb GPU (gonna be replaced with the 6600 XT) for just 261 bucks, so nice 1080-1440p gaming and graphic / video work under $500 with some extras
@@unamed9285 no problem! Definitely add an additional stick of ram though, only 8gb will hold you back in gaming, but other than that you should be good to go!
She's perfecting her planting boxes..
Great video ! That's a lot of tough splitting young man you have a good back, as you get older it will take it's tole on your body, Be safe take care of your body man we only have one :) I had to turn to a electric splitter after my back injuries when I was in my 40's this way I can still stay active :)
Thank you! I try to keep active as much as I can. I only split the easy stuff by hand, but I have a 25ton hydraulic splitter that does a lot of the big and pain in the but stuff I get. Hope all is well, thanks for watching!
I’m glad I’m not there only one who uses Christmas wrapping paper year round.
Oh yeah haha. I buy in bulk and use it all year round to wrap gifts. Shouldn't matter what it's wrapped in, just what is in the box!
Free is free and better than paying the utility company. Dry wood and frequent cleaning prevent most issues.
Out west they burn mosty pine that's all they have. Plus, its crackling as it burns. As long as we're not burning oil.
Sounded like a master class in wood burning right there. Dry, Dry, Dry . He who burns wet wood will not only have dirty stove and pipe but cold winter.
Have you thought about marking on your pallet the brand of the wood, and the month, and year that you stacked it
Nice work dude. We’ve heated with wood for nearly 40 years. Being in the woods gives me peace. Looks like you enjoy it too. Bless you my brother!
I love it, have been doing it since I was a kid with my father, I love being outdoors doing things. Thanks for watching and bless you!
If you keep getting tree service wood and keep up this pace, your going to need more firewood storage.. lol. 😊
@@MrFanatical1 I 100% agree, wife has made that clear haha. We are looking to purchase a property across from us that is about 3 acres of land. I'd do all my wood production there and we'd make about half an acre of it a garden. So we can keep it out of the yard
Fallen tree or did someone cut down a tree and leave the wood out for pickup?
Man you making my back hurt bending over like that. Hey I done been there and done that. Good splitting man.

👍
Nice work! I can relate to your firewood hoarding/ processing problem.. lol
If it were up to me I'd probably end up filling up my whole backyard, but that's unrealistic, so I just do what I can with the time and space that I have
It’s addicting for sure! Nice looking wood stacks…. 😊
@@MrFanatical1 Much appreciated! Be well friend!
