EDH on a Budget
Приєднався 13 гру 2023
This channel is to help build budget decks, share strategies, and synergies. Many times we are unaware of exactly how low some cards become or are unaware of alternatives to expensive staples. Budget is different for everybody so in order help more people I will have most cards suggested be under $2 with the maximum cap of $5.

What happens at MagicCon Chicago 2024?
It seems like likes don't work on my other account now for some reason. I should have put tezzeret in a budget deck recently, didn't realise the price.
Structural Assault is one that I have seen before and totally didn't realise how awesome it is. Nice one!
I have to keep incite rebellion in mind when building decks. That works so well with a lot of rakdos sac or Voltron decks.
Thanks for sharing, Tyvar will be crazy in my Gitrog, Ravenous Ride deck!
Thanks for watching and commenting. That is a strong commander. So many options for it.
I have Legion Loyalty in my Alesha, Who Smiles at Death deack. It is Ally kindred, so that is a double finisher!
Wow with allys they all give benefits to each other upon ETB. That would be nuts. Worth tapping out for.
Rise and Shine in Vadrik, Astral Archmage is gonna be nuts.
I have a vadrik deck it doesn’t focus enough on treasures to make that a good win con for me. It’s a combo burn deck.
Vadrik really should be running red pump spells and rummage to win with a card like crackle with power.
can't hear you over the elevator music
Breathe, dude, Breathe! You sound soo out of breath
If you don't have a great option for masterful replication there are always artifact lands, and I think turning my treasure tokens into lands would be an upgrade for sure!
That last card was exactly what i was looking for ty
No problem. There will be atleast another video or two on finishers.
Also, Mogis always makes me think of 'Mogi' which means mosquito in Korean. So, it always kinda seems like the Mogis cards are related to mosquitoes somehow to me. Just an oddball note to throw on that.
Maybe you were winning too much.
@EDH_on_a_Budget haha, usually not a problem sadly
I took Masterful Replication out of my Saheeli deck, I can't imagine why. I should dig that up again and get it in a deck. I really don't know why I took that out.
Fanatic of Mogis is AMAZING with all those high red-pip damage doublers and triplers.
I agree but I never see it. Red keeps getting more and more ways to make copies of creatures
Rise and Shine is a fun way to win in Tivit. It is certainly a more honest way to win than Time Sieve nonsense.
With the new junk tokens it would be hilarious to win by turning all the junk k into 4/4 creatures. Plus it can have huge plus 1/1 synergies.
@@EDH_on_a_Budget With Farid you can turn scrap artifact tokens (that do nothing) into solid finishers!
Dragon Throne of Tarkir is in my Kykar deck that basically just seeks to control the game and protect my board until I have enough spirits to over run tbe game, putting it on Kykar is big gas to give them all +3/+3. With other anthems in there too, pretty regularly swinging with 5/5 spirits to win. Im sure Talrand would work similarly but with him have to be careful about diluting your instants and sorceries.
That’s a fair point but blue also has tutor for artifact cards and I like that the army can be created at instant speed right before your turn.
Using Liquimetal Coating to set off Viridian Revel would be hilarious.
I agree with you on effects like Lignify, way better in commander than removal. Almost functions like removal for commander.
Just one person? I know so many players that play so few basics it’s a nice land to hate on nonbasic land cards
@@EDH_on_a_Budget Ha, yeah, I know plenty, there is one in particular I would like to use that against. He's the 'that guy' in the pod.
I thought the video had no audio, I turned the volume up and I can barely hear you talking.
Thanks I will fix that next episode.
woah, Vicious Shadows is nuts! All sold out on my Korean website, nooo!
It only had 1 printing so I’m sure supply is limited.
@EDH_on_a_Budget ah, that would do it
I would love to play Mercadia's Downfall against a specific person, who just seems to have something against putting basic lands in his deck.
I love that the edit on this video is also made on a budget.
Thanks. It’s a learning process. I have no computer or editing background so I imagine these videos editing has improved some since the original videos.
Huh... I have been looking for some Budget win game cards for my Fineas Ace Archer token deck. Kamahl, Jazal and Beastmaster ascension are perfect. Thanks
Depending how many plus 1/1 counters are on the creatures you control you may also benefit from a certain green sorcery that changes your creatures into 6/4 base power. I don’t remember if it was in my finishers video part 1 or two.
Also, I put crackle with power in my Saheeli, the Gifted deck, it'll do!
I had Jazal on my cat anthem list, I didn't consider that you could activate his ability more than once. It would cost a fair amount of mana, but damn! i should have put it in my Zirda deck for the ability cost reduction.
Kamahl is Green, so 8 cmc isn't really that much for most competently built Green decks. Surge to Victory wants token hordes and high CMC cards.... I don't know how to reconcile that, outside of maybe instead a smaller amount of just average creatures.
Just depends what colors you splash it with. White and green easily have and make fliers. It also gets nuts with reds instant speed double strike spells. See one will get through give it double strike. Reds extra combat spells would be crazy too.
I think saccing Optimus would stop targeted effects because it does say 'when he dies', which to me, sounds like he leaves the battlefield. But, this does feel like one of those hinky rules.
I believe we are right and which would mean he would be incredibly resilient with a sac outlet.
I love these! I have the full set in my binder. I think they are good ones to speculate on. Also, I totally misread Optimus' attack trigger. I totally thought he had to attack. That is one I always mentally switch. That is so much stronger!
3 counters the turn he comes out and potentially 3 more in the rotation that’s 6 counters for the first full rotation. There is so much you can do with that.
@@EDH_on_a_Budget Especially with that color combination, it gives you a lot of great options.
appreciate this, knew of all but scale up, thats a cool new finisher for my go wide strats
Thanks. Scale up is a little unknown. Especially with how it works with static pumps and plus 1/1 counters.
Scale Up is a fascinating card, especially for the budget player. Predatory Focus gets them through, more or less.
Interesting card. It doesn’t give any pump to power but gets power through. I also like Vivien’s stampede but it may not finish the job.
So, Graaz in a mass token deck seems strong. Chatterfang or a monowhite thing, as you say. Now I have new plans.... I prefer Overwhelming Stampede over Return of the Wildspeaker because the Trample is crucial to get around chump blockers, and Return doesn't provide that. Green. Proliferate. Seems good...
Overwhelming stamped risk is if your biggest creature gets removed the buff is smaller. Wildspeaker is good mid game or late for the card draw. And the pumping unblocked creatures is quite strong. Yes they won’t get around chump blockers if they have enough of them. But green also gives trample so easily. I can think of 10 cards that give all your creatures trample.
I did not realise Overwhelming Stampede had dropped in price that much! Damn, nice pick!
I think this is a really interesting card. I was planning to put it in a deck soon, I hadn't thought about making her a commander. Removal/card draw is a very nice combo!
On arena is so good. I can only imagine it gets much better in a 4 player pod.
@@EDH_on_a_Budget A solid pick for sure, easy to build around with extra damage effects as well. Just taking out opponents' creatures and drawing cards all game!
nice video homie
Appreciate it. I play this commander on arena and the card draw is so good.
Nice one! I was going to do a black precon upgrades video next week. I was having a really hard time narrowing the list down. Particularly, keeping Morbid opportunist. I will just add a tag for this and cut it. Much easier!
Phyrexian Arena has no replacement. Phyrexian Arena needs no replacement. (Unless they printed a card that does the same thing but for 1 less mana. Also, the Necro enchantments)
I have painful truths in a Rakdos deck with a lot of treasure generation, very nice card.
How have I never seen Necrologia before?? My madness deck is going to have so much ridiculous fun playing that. Especially if Bone Miser is on the field. 😂
Obviously much more pricey, but Black Market Connections.
Definitely straight up better but I’m trying to keep it budget so anybody can use the card suggestions.
Night's Whisper and Sign in Blood too! Easy to overlook
I am building a Carth the Lion budget Golgari deck right now. This episode is timed perfectly for me!
I think Casualties of War is massively underrated. People always say the casting cost is so high, even if you only hit three of five possible things, it works out to two mana per target. Really, it is just great card economy.
I need to run more of the cycling lands, that is a solid piece of advice! I keep saying the same with the graveyard hate as well.
I ordered a full set of these for my binder and a few extra for decks, especially legion loyalty. I made a video on dual lands for precon upgrades and I think we were of the same mind on these ones.
I just did a Zirda ability deck, I should have put Conqueror's Galleon in it!
I've wanted to get Nessian board into decks before and it never quite makes the cut, I should give it a shot though!
It can be much better than a fight spell since fight spells need your creatures power to be high or to have deathtouch.
@@EDH_on_a_Budget Also, one free attack for the rest of your creatures! That might be a finisher in the right situation.
Love the concept of recommending multi-target / boardwipe removal on a budget. However, multiple of these cards have glaring issues, and the focus of the video is misplaced, imo ("Don't Settle" for single target removal). Nessian Boar is quite expensive at 5 mana (although it is in green), has no removal evasion or real combat abilities (think trample, haste), and has the enormous downside of allowing a given opponent to draw a card for each creature they control. I don't think it serves its purpose as an efficient board wipe often enough due to how telegraphed, vulnerable, and slow it is. Malicious Affliction heavily benefits from you running single-target removal (and IS single-target removal quite often) and outside of being in the right deck, you're most often getting the most value out of this after someone's combat phase (which, generally, you'd like to destroy important or big creatures in MP1 (combo pieces) or Declare Attackers/Declare Blockers (big boys)). It is pretty efficient when it works, but outside of that, Infernal Grasp is often better, and Feed the Swarm (although sorcery speed) has more applications, especially in commander. Bladegriff Prototype has many of the same problems Nessian Boar does - 5 mana, telegraphed, no removal evasion, and benefits opponents more than you (by letting them choose the permanent). The flying is a nice touch, but this is offest heavily by how small the creature is, being easily blocked by many 2-3 mana flying/reach creatures. I like the content though. Earned a sub from me and will def recommend Volcanic Salvo, a card i forgot about (and a card i didn't complain about because it's very clearly geared towards a relatively broad range of aggressive creature-based decks) to a friend. Kitesail Larcenist is also sick, and so is dismantling wave. Maybe consider lowering that glass shattering noise at the start of the video? Haha. Have a good night
Thank you very much for this thorough comment and for subscribing. I have played these cards and I can say the flying is irrelevant for bladegryff because nobody is blocking it because there is almost always something they want to destroy for a little bit of life loss. They will block it when it’s 1v1 if they can because they still have to destroy something that isn’t mine. With Nessian boar the card draw for them is definitely rough. The lack of trample isn’t very important because the goal of it is to force blocks and kill the stuff that they don’t want to send into combat. It is definitely slow unless you give it haste, but being able to work every turn is pretty good. I will have to play it more to see if it is a good offset or if the 2 downsides you mentioned are just too much. That’s comparing it to other green multi removal.
I feel most black decks have creatures dying anyway and even without that it’s not hard to get a creature to die. Most of the time somebody would let you chump block or chump attack to take 2 other creatures from somebody else.
Vehicles are fun!
Hadn't thought of using Sundering Eruption as red ramp, nice one
That gives it early game application, evasion for mid and late game, land removal for an important type of removal and an untapped land for 3 life.
Also, totally agree on the number of lands. I usually go under 36 because I feel like people expect around 32-34, but should be more. That is one thing EDHrec is really off base with. I have even seen tri-color decks where they recommend 30 lands... that is just not right.
That is too low because it lowers the odds of getting the colors and lands you need. Also I wouldn’t count any lands that don’t tap for mana.
@@EDH_on_a_Budget Agreed, that is crazy low in a tri-color deck.
Solid advice! Good solutions for early game set up especially. Definitely agree about the bounce lands, seem like they are unappreciated.
