"MLK: The Hidden Radical Dimensions"
On KGNU's series, From the Archives to the Air, we dig into the station's vast archive of audio that until now, lived in a dusty closet, unlistened to, for decades.
On this episode, we hear audio first released in 1974 that dives into the often-overlooked aspects of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s advocacy. The audio features speeches and discussions regarding his revolutionary insights about civil rights, war condemnation, economic inequality, and his firm stand against the Vietnam War. The program also contextualizes and explores King's radical ideas about love, peace, and unity among all men. Alongside this, the program also includes an interview with two student organizers discussing King's legacy and its relevance for today's generation. Audio from King's visit to Santa Rita Prison in California in 1967 and excerpts from the broadcast 'The Hidden Radical Dimensions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.' from 1990 are also included.

    Come on now, you know they are still enforcing the Dread Scott Case Decision on anyone of dark skinned hue, that they feel they can create their racist pretext and constructive fraud where there's no actual crime nor victim or injured party. They cannot police us, nor our communities. It's not about training. That's BS, and a perpetual scapegoat where no one pays for their KKK actions.

  • @JReece3000

    Training is nice but you can’t teach somebody to not be subconsciously racist. You either are or you aren’t. If Zayd Atkinson was a phenotypical white male it is highly unlikely that that cop would’ve assumed he was doing anything other than picking up trash.

    Cop was wrong right from the start. Detain and demand ID for picking up garbage?? I don't blame the kid for getting mad. He was right to sue. Cop resigned, took a big chunk of cash and probably went to work in the next town over. The fact that the cop was afraid of that flimsy little stick held by a skinny kid is unacceptable. Cops are TRAINED in the us vs them mentality. They fear everybody. That makes them dangerously unstable. Training cops to behave better is a waste of time when it has no teeth.

    I see where this is going, because the gentleman was black. I’m not going to lie, it seems that particular officer, WHO WAS ALLOWED TO RESIGN, did racially profile this student, no doubt. But I do not blame the other cops,, they are trained to do their jobs and hash it out in court, the call the first racist officer gave warranted the responding officers to react to what they were told by dispatch. However, I’m assuming that was a supervisor who said we are out of here, and thank God the other cops seemed to realize what was going on and didn’t wanna get involved. Which is unfortunate that they didn’t intervene sooner. Lesson learned hopefully, and hopefully the cop no longer with the force isn’t on another one 🤦‍♂️

    Don't tell me they need training, you can't train Racism out of white supremacists... This is purely racism period cos if you need to verify so badly if he lives there or not, simply ask for the property manager n find out. Shouldn't that be the rite thing to do?

  • @thomasengelke7745
    @thomasengelke7745 2 роки тому

    ONLY THE OWNER or their authorized representatives can trespass an individual. The sign on the property showing no trespass does not allow any unauthorized person to become a representative of the property owner. If the police is correct then the police can enter any home or business and demand they show evidence of being authorized to being on the property. The law is clear that a reasonable person would either believe he had landowners permission or he was trespassing. Seeing a thousand plus cars driving pass without one of them thinking he was trespassing should have led the police to also believe that he is authorised and not trespassing. I think the cop wanted to stop driving around and picked on one person he thought could and him in his goal of not driving. He was bored and looked for a person he thought he could get his kicks from. Instead he has been proven to not be reliable in his testimony, not consistent on his approach to every citizen, and that he showed that he wanted to act brave against one person with a litter picker and a bucket. 'Brave' officer pulled his gun out as he must have been so scared for his life against trash in a bucket. There is no law that allows the police to act without the property owner's consent to trespass anyone. PERIOD

    I applaud that young man. I am a 64 year old white woman and I was so proud of him for standing up to the bullies. His frustration and anger at being “picked out” by the cops bc of the color of his skin seeped through the screen. I felt like this young man was standing up for himself and all other people like him who get this treatment from the police. I am so sorry this happens to Black Americans and I hope this next generation puts an end to this discrimination.

    If not for the age of the smartphone, we might be reading his obituary. Eight armed officers for one thin man with a standard trash picker and a 5-gallon plastic bucker? Why can't there be a national standard for de-escalation training for all law enforcement? They could have easily de-escalated this by calling the University to identify the man pictured on the ID. They all should have been assigned 40 hours community service picking up trash in minority housing (armed only with a trash picker and bucket).

    I've come to the belief that there must be criminal sanctions spelled out clearly in State legislation outlining criminal repercussions for officers who deliberately escalate or fictionalize situations like this. He had zero ground for any suspicion. None. A kid picking up garbage and sitting on a porch at a college. There should be a panel made up of a law enforcement representative, a Judicial representative and an elected citizen. Citizens must have a place to take these situations other than back to the people who are commiting crimes against the public themselves.

      The cops harassed the student, wouldn't accept his proof, and ignored what he had to say. Not to mention the initiating officer broke multiple laws and violated the 4th Amendment. The cops also immediately believed the white man when he said he ran the place, took him at his word with no evidence, and never second guessed him. But sure. The cops are treating EVERYONE like that.

    He is asking himself, why it happened? They treat everyone that is not a cop as guilty of something. The cop saw parking signs for [ residents only ] and the cop, who eventually got fired, took those signs as no trespassing signs and since they have a big hard on for trespassing, he tried to enforce it when he should not have. For a cop to LAWFULLY enforce a trespass, they must have first been asked to leave and refuse, plus the cop cannot be the one to ask to leave
