Carving Fall Leaves on a Goose Egg with a NSK Presto II
Here I show the process of me carving a leaf pattern on a goose egg. I am using a high speed air driven drill, with small bits called "burrs". The whole carving took me several hours. The drill I am using is called a NSK PRESTO II , which can be purchased from Treeline at treelineusa.com/ (I am not sponsored by them).
Thank you for your time!

Carving Feathers on a Goose Egg, Disaster Averted!

Hello all from Rebekah Joy Studio! Thank you for your patience as I learn more about creating videos and posting them. This video shows a part of the egg carving process that is not my favorite, but certainly ever present when working with such a fragile medium. When things don't go the way I planned, I have to adapt (and that's a struggle for me). Carving eggshells does lend itself to musing o...

It's a very thin tape called Washi Tape. It's usually used with crafts and paper arts. I find that it's perfect for eggshells because it is so thin, and it does not stick too much. It's easy to remove. Thanks for your question!

I also carve eggs. The cut out could have gone faster with a 699 carbide bit which would have left a cleaner edge. Enjoyed the video.

I am using a 699 carbide in this video, but I probably should have swapped it out for a new one. The 699 are great, unless you use them when they are dull like I did. Thank you for watching!

Love your egg work. I am a beginner i was wondering if you used anything to harden/stabilize your eggs pre carving or post carving to strengthen the shell?

Hey! I don't usually, sometimes I will coat Emu eggs with a thin coat of polyurethane, but that is to enhance the color not to stabilize the egg. Otherwise, it's just the shell! If you are finding that you're breaking shells, it could be a couple things. Sometimes eggshells come with micro fractures that you can't see super well. I generally give the egg a very gentle squeeze all over with even pressure, eggshells that already have a crack in them will break, but if they are solid nothing happens. It could also be the drill, you need a drill that has basically zero vibration. The speed at which you're carving can also affect vibration, so I would play around until you find the sweet spot. I hope this helps! Happy carving!

Thank you very much!! What kind of drill bit are you using, it looks so precise. Well trial and error for me as i am new to this but I am having some success but also some have broken. Thanks again for the quick response!! Cheers

@@dawnpaterson-v6z You're welcome! I use the NSK Presto, I bought it from Treeline USA. I'll include the link! treelineusa.com/nsk-presto-ii-kit/ Keep in mind, you would still need an air compressor to run this tool. It's expensive up front, but you can do a lot with it! It's possible some of the electric high-speed drills from Treeline might work for eggshells as well, but I haven't tried them.
