UNDERBASE before ROADBASE? | Building a gravel road that will last | DAY 3 & 4
Переглядів 8472 роки тому
This vlog shows the progress of day 3 and 4 of our farm driveway construction. Our farm is made up of many hills and all the rain runs down to the entry point of our farm where our creek runs. We need to establish a driveway that will not wash away in a heavy down pour, as well as hold the weight of trucks. We have tried to design a large turning circle/roundabout for trucks to easily turn arou...

Today is day 2 of excavating all the topsoil out from our new farm driveway and truck roundabout. We are using an excavator and bobcat to get the job done. We also are inserting 2 culvert pipes into the ground and a channel to help divert excess water from the hills into the creek, hopefully preventing future erosion of the road. Should I buy a TRACTOR for my hobby farm? Or will a Zero Turn be a cheaper alternative?
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
In this video I hired a commercial zero turn mower to see how efficiently it cuts the pasture on my farm. Because we haven't had any cattle during the recent covid period, the grass is knee high and preventing us from preparing for some excavation work. Before I consider buying a tractor, i wanted to see how the zero turn performs, as they are significantly cheaper to buy. So should I buy a TRA...

In this week's vlog I show HOW I PREVENT our CABIN WATER PIPES from FREEZING during our winter snow storms. Our farm doesn't get snow every day in the colder months but it definitely reaches up to -4 during the night on a regular basis. So in order to protect our water supply and electricity system to our farm cabin, I have dug a trench half a metre under ground and have laid pipes down which w...

    I won’t use a skill skill saw in this manner. At least with a hand saw you may cut yourself but not lose a finger. Buying a plane or belt sander is one hell of a lot cheaper than a serious injury. I know of several tradesmen and DIYers who have lost fingers and it is just not worth taking the risk. Also a couple of splinters from the saw without eye protection can cause serious injury. And I have lost enough hearing despite being careful not to use hearing protection But the fence looks really good and I would stain or paint as we put so much effort into it we want it to last and stay looking good.

    Looks NICE...Need this... is that compressed wood? Are you going to stain it with anything to protect it from water or erosion

    • @farmsketchventures7017
      @farmsketchventures7017 3 роки тому

      The wood I used is treated pine wood so it will withstand the weather…not forever, but long enough to serve its purpose. It would probably last even longer if I had remembered to put plastic between the wall and the dirt on the high side.

      Thanks for your question. I have never tried to lay a slab under those circumstances. It is best to get advice from a professional tradesman local to you for their opinion and to look at the specifics of your job. I find many trades-people are happy to give me tips and advice on how to do a job myself if I ask.
