Mercedes S580 - After one year and 10,000 miles how did the car perform.
This is the one only bettered by the convertible. Raced one at Riverside and other western tracks in the ‘80’s. Tossable, perfectly balanced. A great drive to the track racer. It and the 65 mustang are the ONLY actual factory sport cars. All the rest are ponderous manatees that could not beat the European BMW 3.0’s, minis and Jags of the era. Wanna drive? Start here.
Beautiful car, put not much hp.
I like seeing vehicles like this with original equipment. So many of them have been "upgraded" that it makes stock stuff a unique change of scenery.
needs Big Smog pump sold seperately at B&M 144 Roots Supercharger Ford Bought them out Made it so you couldnt get parts for them
Good news l just finished restoring my 80 Z28 too sell l like those prices
Wrong box for the transmission..
People have more money than brains, that car a few years ago was a 60K car at most.
Yes another reason missed the boat on that one
Bidenflation changed all that.
I just purchased a 1993 with 23k miles concourse con and paid £34.000 in the uk, apparently there is only about 36 registered on the UK roads at present. Enjoy both of yours Bruv you got it at a bargain price.
Thanks for your comments I believe these are future collectibles and very unique.
Very nice driving video and good content, thank you for sharing this!.....Have a similar 6.9, built in very late 1979 with ABS and the pretty rare electrical rear seat. Price tag of mine was with options 90.000,- DM, that's double the price of a well fitted 350 SE!...The famous M 100 engine was exclusively developed in 1958 just for the mighty 600 Grosser. It is in principle the template for the smaller V8's 350 and 450 and later V8's in the W126. It exists even a worldwide M 100 club....Another interesting info about the hydro pneumatic suspension. It was standard for the 6.9 but you could order it also for the smaller V8's as an option, but as far as I could find out, nobody did that :-). ...and lastly another interesting thing about the ABS anti lock breaking system which was launched for all W116's in 1978. Only 200 out of totally 7380 produced 6.9 were ordered with ABS! Price tag could not be the reason, because a 6.9 was anyway very expensive. Reason was that the wealthy owners were sceptical about such a modern breaking technology and had often the opinion: " Our Chauffeur brakes better than such a weird gadget" 😂.....Best regards from Germany
That's a gorgeous car and it's obviously in terrific condition. Love that body style..it runs as it should for the year model. A friend of mine had a brown 81 with the 305 and 4 speed trans and it ran strong..and much like yours rode very well..thank you for sharing you wonderful ride with us. It takes me back in time to some great memories..God bless
Krásné auto!
Chevrolet managed to get sharp creases in sheet metal that other manufacturers just couldn't at the time, not even within GM I don't think
Other than one 1982 Z / 28 in Punxsutawney Pa that was special ordered with a 350 four BBL carburetor engine, 81 was the last year for the LT 1 350 4 bolt mains engine in the Camaro until the second generation 350 engine in 86, piece of crap. The engine blocks were mostly all .030 tin content blocks. So although the factory stock engine was a turd, new pistons, cam, heads, intake and exhaust was all it took to make it run. Ditch the 2:73 gears for 3:42 or 3:73 and you had a car no one else could touch. Koni shocks, Addco sway bars, Eibach springs, American Racing mags and TA radial tires and you were ready to take on most anyone stop light to light. Shift kit in the tranny and some better brake pads and you could take it to Mid Ohio and keep up with the people with actual race cars.. This was the formula Bob Bondurant used for his driving school.
You know your stuff thanks for watching
My favourite car ever. Nice to see one stock, unmolested.
If you look at my other cars you will notice the same thing all 50 are stock and unmolested
@americandreamgarage3054 Wow, yeah! Stunning collection. Cars companies spend billions on design so, in my opinion at least, that's how they should be

You should have told us how tall you are...
I thought I did sorry 6’3”
The 442 was its own model in 1970. It's not a Cutlass 442.
Great video. I’m about to pick one up. California truck with dual side gas tanks (total of three). 1972 was still early for the gasoline shortage of the 1970’s. If I recall that was 1974?I think after people had to look for gasoline and wait until odd or even days to buy, the idea of extra tanks became popular. I think the extra tanks are after market or they could have been a dealer option. The seller wants real money for it but it’s a sweet truck. Every things works. I don’t mind paying a bit more for an exceptional vehicle. There are cheaper ones out there but when you find the right car it’s best to just get it. Asking price is $22k. Camper delux original paint/good patina. All new interior done correctly. Maybe I’m paying too much but this one has been taken care of. Take care, MH
Thanks for the story sounds like a nice truck. I assumed to camper special had the dual tanks and dual batteries thanks
That’s an easy question, a car is worth whatever a person is willing to pay for it.
Thats correct and the point of the video, to see what the market is willing to pay at that time and location. Cant believe price guides their only guides. Thanks
@@americandreamgarage3054 I agree with you, there’s no way to have a price guide on a specialty vehicle like performance/muscle cars that have been restored, too many variables.
Back in the early 2000's my father bought this 1989 pontiac pace car and absolutely loved it, we would always go to car shows together and it would be the only one there. He ended up selling it and buying a 1987 buick grand national that had a built engine. I got to experience both of these cars as a kid and i will never forget them.
Thank you for the story your lucky my dad drove a Toyota corona
You bought this car for its looks and coolness, not for performance.
Fabulous car - fellow 6.9 owner here. Your car is especially rare as it is a 1980 model in Manganese Brown Metallic - one year only for a 6.9. Looks like it is in fabulous condition too, awesome video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the info!
What is the color code on the exterior paint?
Have to check I’m out of the country
That is an awesome story I have some other Mercedes videos out there have been restoring my 300 6.3 can’t wait to get it back on the road thanks for watching
That's one BEAUTIFUL automobile sir!❤... I believe your correct on the price because I remember growing up in Savannah, GA. and we got our first Mercedes dealer in 1979, I was 11. My father and I used to LOVE browsing dealer lots on the weekends and of course our new Mercedes-Benz dealer was no exception. We saw this absolutely GORGEOUS gray 450SEL on the showroom floor and the sticker in the window said $48,995.00... I remember that number to the penny because of my father's reaction for the remainder of the day 😂😂😂... Needless to say, I learned the meaning of the phrase "sticker shock". Been a huge fan of them since. Thank you for sharing! 💯👍🏿
A: no. It’s not your father’s Cadillac, because it belonged to your grandfather to make himself feel sporty in his old age. B: The 1995 Eldorado model was a refresh year. For 1997, the new Deville Concours was bumped up to 300 HP. The new 98’ Seville STS followed. Which means for 1999, the Eldorado ETC put out 300 HP as well. Not 295.
My father is 96 he drove Cadillacs in the 60’s and 70’s
@@americandreamgarage3054 the first part was a joke by the way 😭
Love that pontiac
May ‘24 I wonder how much he wants for it. I got the first $25k, just wondering how much beyond my price he can sell it. 😅
Oops sorry, just called my broker & realized how far I was off. That’s completely on me. 🤦♂️
No Sunroof ! Would look for another one
Bring Pontiac back
Old Ferrari's are like Lulu Lemon stretch pants for women, not for everyone.
I wasn't expecting it to be worth that much. I just bought one for $5,000 it has a blown head gasket and needs a new paint job but still.
Klockworks twice a day 10 AM and 10 PM
Better get after it!
Every Chevelle did not start as a Malibu, there were 300's, Concourse, Malibu(s) and Super Sports. They did not start out as one ting and turn into something else. Flapper hood also not true on every Super Sport, there is an SS hood and a cowl induction hood.. You should really check your facts there are literally thousands of Chevelles out there that are just Chevelles, Malibu is a trim option. What about a Heavy Chevy, did that start out as a Malibu, uh no...
I understand your point but it is still a clone with out documentation. Probably still worth 40 to 50 k
@@americandreamgarage3054 I have no problems with clones, my comment was more directed at the daniellives379 comment about how every chevelle is a Malibu. I have built cars professionally for almost 30 years and have many originals, resto mods and clones in my history. I love anything cool and well thought out and am turned off by folks that believe a classic should only be presented in one way. If its a well done clone or modified classic so that you don't die trying to drive in modern traffic all the better.
And the best part!? My daily driver is a 1974 K/20 Suburban!
No point to this video. My 350hp GTO would run all over the 396/325hp car all day long without ram air.
The point is for people to see the cars and to support the collector hobby not to simulate a race
Great choice for a long roadtrip - comfortable and reliable. The ’98 SL500 I bought from you 3 years ago has been trouble free and it continues to be the favorite of my cars. Looking forward to future videos on this one. Hearing your thoughts on the M113vs. M119 would be interesting 🙂
Jens good to hear from you. This car is almost too nice to sell, but my accountant is tired of hearing that. I’m not an expert on engines other that the M119 to me is bulletproof for 2 to 300k miles. I have never owned the 113 if that is the AMG 55 motor. I have had to AMG 63’s they are incredible horsepower to liter displacement for the time
How much?
Going on Bring a trailer I would estimate 17 to 22 based on condition and mileage I sold one for 17500 not as nice. This one is ALMOST perfect thanks
If you did a race between both the GN and TRANS AM I will guarantee you the views will be so high in numbers. That's what people want to see expecially since there both stock.
Great video!!
Thanks!
Thank you
Always disliked the rubber. The paint always cracked on them because they expand and contract so much. Chrome bumpers are more manly because soft rubber crashes are soft 😂
understood I liked rubber because they were new when I was in high School
They needed shifters on the column with tilt steering wheel, sway bar with 4.10 gears, and the radio antenna needed to be on the R/R quarter panel.
Nice. I had a 1981 Berlinetta in baby blue, I loved it until it reached about 108,000 miles, then it literally started to fall apart, so I sold it. Good memories though.
How much
I had the same one but t top with a 383in it and it was awesome
Fastback I’ll say 11.500 to 14.500 it looks like the rear quarters have been enlarged witch sucks
I paid 6K your right will need new quarters
Neither of those are legit l78 cars. Love the use of pipe fittings on the blue one. Also wrong intake, t-housing, carb etc.. If you have a legit l78, which I do, you go out of your way to point out how legit it is to maximize value, anything less is just scammin or an inaccurate representation of value.. Auctions are full of fake cars and even more full of people that believe that the auction somehow makes sure the sellers are vetted. Often times, very vague language is used in the descriptions to prevent backlash.
I agree check out this video ua-cam.com/video/T-EOlX02bcw/v-deo.html
not all the boxes were ckecked, the most important one was the S.D. 455 and it doen;t have it.
I heard that one of my dream cars, hard to understand why more people did not order that
Such a beautiful car. My dad had a red 1981 Z28 when I was a kid and he loved to point out the air induction system and the growl of the engine when he'd "floor it". Hard to believe the muscle cars of my childhood were that slow. My 2018 Toyota Sienna minivan with a V6 is over two seconds faster 0-60.
The 455 also hung on in the Olds 442 through 1976 but relatively few were so equipped--I've seen a figure of 143 cars.
I did not know that
