~cracks knuckles~ Here are my reactions to the Thunderbolts* trailer: *Did she just call Red Guardian “Dad”!? *They're really doing the “Character cares more about his job than his family” bit, huh? I’ll admit that Walker is definitely the kind of guy who feels more comfortable in dangerous missions than everyday living (with the comics even describing him as someone who truly comes alive when death dances around him), but here’s the thing- He doesn’t have a wife or a child in the comics. It’s like they gave him a family just so they could do the “neglectful/uninvolved family man” bit, and that is terrible. You know who did leave a family in the comics? Taskmaster. Taskmaster left a wife due to his memory issues (shown in a sad story in which he reunites with his wife, then leaves her at the end because he forgot about her again), and he possibly has a daughter (If I recall correctly it’s one of those “We’ll hint at it, but not confirm it to see what stories can be written later” deals). Why not make MCU Taskmaster the one with a family not being paid attention to properly? If it’s because the writers think only men can be unavailable for their families, then there are a lot of social workers, law enforcement officers, and even Redditors who have some bad news for them. [By the way, speaking of MCU John’s family, I saw someone respond to episode one of TFATWS by claiming, “Oh, they must be giving him a black wife to show he’s racist!” I just…WHAT!? Are you effing high!? Needless to say, that didn’t happen. Some people are just bizarre and nonsensical with their theories.] *In real life there would be a lot of people siding with John. *If the blank shield is meant as a tribute to The Captain temporarily wielding a blank shield given to him by Tony Stark (before receiving a vibranium shield from T’Challa), that would be neat. However, I doubt they put that much care into it, and so having a blank shield with no explanation looks weird. I wonder if they’re going to give a reason (either good or bad) or just not say anything about him randomly having a blank shield instead of his classic one. *They're really doing the “Let's make all the guys jobbers to make the women look good instead of making them good and call it empowerment!” bit, huh? One of my most hated clichés is when writers suddenly make everyone look bad to make one character look good. When it’s for a badly done, insincere “girl power” message, I don’t feel empowered; I feel insulted. Make the female characters good on their own instead of taking the lazy route. *Wow, they are laying it on so thick… *This reminds me of how TFATWS could have tackled the issue of mental health, especially concerning veterans, in a meaningful way, but didn’t. In fact, they seemingly chose not to, instead going with hurtful and damaging depictions of trauma. This movie probably won’t be any better. *Wait, did Bucky grab his arm out of the dishwasher?! (replays) Oh, my gosh, he did! X-D Best part of the trailer! That scene of John Walker looking irritated in the back seat of the car matches my reaction so well. ~sighs~ At least they're warning people what they're in for. 2/10

My brother's response was, "This was unexpected, but also a little weird. Akin to 'Here's your new Lex Luthor...Christopher Reeve!'" X-D Some people are excited about RDJ playing Doom and some are skeptical or disapproving, but I say let 'em cook. I've seen a lot of funny comments like, "You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. RDJ did both." I can see both sides in general, though I have seen a couple claims in other comment sections I didn’t agree with. *"This is when the MCU jumped the shark.” Really!? You think THIS is the MCU’s low point? Not when they hyped up the Captain Marvel movie as being important to Endgame when it wasn’t? Not when they decided to make Love & Thunder a comedy with bad CGI helmed by a guy who admitted he only did it for the money? Not when they had a psychologist in TFATWS victim-blaming Bucky? Not when they had shows made by people who bragged they weren’t paying attention to anything the other shows and movies were doing? Not when they had MODOK look goofy as blazes? I’m not here to dump all over on the MCU, but the people acting like it never had bad moments/let-downs until this year are full of it. *"They’re not going to get RDJ and then show him with a scarred face.” They got Ryan Reynolds and show him looking like the underside of a burnt Hot Pocket. *“They need to get someone who’s not a big name.” How’d that work out with Kang? Getting big names doesn’t guarantee success, but neither does casting lesser known/obscure actors.

I realized I didn't say when John first appeared. He first appeared in Captain America #323, and he was created by Mark Gruenwald and Tom Morgan. Also, Left-Winger and Right-Winger were named Hector and Jerome, not Hector and Jack. If there's anything else I need to add about any of the Captains, I'll post it here too.

Also, speaking of the Cap-Wolf storyline, I just remembered a poignant moment from that. Captain America visited J. Jonah Jameson to let him know that his son (who was working for the Avengers at the time) had gone missing. JJJ welcomed Cap warmly because he recognized him as a great hero, and when Cap told him his son was missing, he became solemn before asking, “Had he told you about the…problem he had?” It’s interesting to talk about being a Man-Wolf like it were cancer or a drug addiction or something. Overall the scene showed JJJ as a caring father, something we don’t often see.

To clarify, for the Deadpool book I genuinely wasn’t fully listening to what was being said, so if any of you guys call me racist, i genuinely try not to be. I was just wasn’t fully listening to what was being said. I also do stand by what I said that I don’t like when entitled a-holes come and stink up my home state.

This movie delivered everything I was hoping for and more! The action was tons of fun and lots of it, and Kong actually had character and a pretty good storyline. The humans, eh take them or leave them, but I was overall beyond satisfied with what this movie delivered.

I missed a lot of the livestream, but what I saw was great! :-D

Modern Marvel Comics writers- America is terrible and Captain America should stop believing in it! Hydra-Cap- (says he thinks America is terrible and he’s stopped believing in it) Modern Marvel Comics writers- You’re awful! Hydra-Cap- (shrugs and looks confused while the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays) Seriously, I love how Hydra-Cap is a villain for doing what the out-of-touch writers & critics insist Cap should be doing and Cap is a hero for not doing it. It’s like they’re this close to understanding Cap’s character and not using him as a straw man. Also, holy cow, that’s a lame way to bring back the Flag-Smasher concept… “When I’m not super-heroing, I like to help people out.” Captain America and The Falcon in a nutshell, and it used to be Superman in a nutshell too until a bunch of writers screwed it up. When you said Captain brought up how Taskmaster had seen his moves, I thought, “Oh, no…” because I saw what was coming next. I get it, but I really don’t like the cliche where they make an established character look incompetent just to make another character look better. Imagine the joining hands meme, but it’s Spider-Man and Captain America uniting over encouraging this age 0-12 character to risk his life fighting threats this month. Edit- I’ve read that Avengers story you were talking about, and I agree, that moment with Cap crying over the torn picture and Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel consoling him was a poignant moment. Cap was so cool and calm while his stuff was getting destroyed (I think his only comment at the time was a simple, “I’ll remember this, Zemo.”), but after he had time to reflect on everything, the emotions were too strong. “Your mom!” 👩

I hadn’t thought about Steve Rogers being alone from the death to his mother to his enlistment, but now that the topic has been brought up, I’m disappointed someone hadn’t explored it until now. At first I thought, “Maybe they didn’t want to do stories like that because they wanted to focus on action over quieter story elements,” and then I realized that can’t be it because most Marvel books spend 85% of the issue having heroes in some bar or cafe whining & talking about something pointless and acting like it’s deep, so obviously they stopped caring long ago whether anything happens in their books. My guess is that Steve is almost tempted, but realizes the sympathizers are promoting a bad cause with empty promises and rejects them (I’m guessing sooner rather than later). It reminds me of an issue from the 1960s or ‘70s with The Red Skull telling his origins. He tells Cap that he was an orphan who had to steal the food he needed to live, but even then he was easy prey for others (A scene showed a group of violent thugs taking the chicken he had stolen from somebody). He then worked a series of menial jobs, but still had no place to go, sleeping on the streets when he wasn’t in jail for petty crimes. Cap interrupted with, “Lots of people had tough lives! My early years were no bed of roses either!” That’s when you realize that Red Skull could have made something of himself instead of hating the world. Cap knows that having a rough past doesn’t mean you have to become hateful and bitter. Cap knows that having a rough past doesn’t give you the right to trample over others to feel special. Cap knows having a rough past doesn’t mean you can’t improve yourself. How does Cap know? Because he had a rough past and knows others who did.
