A stupid fool and his money are soon parted. When the hull is rotted it’s just a waste of money. You MUST dry dock it first. The person who owned it when it sank should have to pay for full clean up bill and the total amount to re float her. As well and any environmental hazard costs. That should put them in the poor house.
So sorry to hear this, I saw a YT vid on it being taken over by Stockton.
Nice video. My Grandfather was the the last Captain of the Uganda during its time on the East Africa Service. A great ship!
She was built in 1970, commissioned in 1971 by Rohr Industries, Inc. Although she looked like a wreck after the fire the structure remained sound. She has been sold. Q105 is reportedly "being moved from Homer to Portland after temporary repairs are made sufficient to assure safe passage. In Portland, she will be repaired and refitted. The accommodation areas will be gutted of the flammable carpet and replaced with fire-blocked coverings. A HiFog fire suppression system is being installed along with stabilization and thrusters." No word as yet on what he future planned deployments will be but it is believed she will remain in the survey/research field. The project manager is a retired Rohr employee who worked on the original build.
Sad end.
I am the new captain of the second chance we did not get a salvage crew I got that boat off The Sandbar
This saddens me, I enjoyed the video’s and dedication to restore the vessel. 😢
She's a Marco and great boat I served her captain well. She can carry 250k lbs😊
Farewell my friend, may your good deeds be accepted by Allah, may your family in Indonesia accept your departure forever.
Why can’t they make a lot of people happy and just build the new ones with a forward house that looks like these
So So sad to see one of the most beautiful ships about to be lost. I watched the videos of the AURORA being restored. So sad.
Hey they stole my idea.
Wow its like weve had these for thousands of years
Okay.... How did it possibly sink? Boats like that should have high-capacity bilge pumps, and high water alarms. And if she was at the dock, which she was, don't they keep thru-hulls closed if they are not being used? I know on my boat, I keep the thru hulls closed unless they need to be open! Something smells fishy about the whole thing.
IT LOOKS WEIRD looks like the half is cut off
Jake is just a lil screaming girl.....he is an embarrassment to the maritime community.....jumping and screaming around the wheelhouse like someone on the cokeville express i wouldn't give him the time of day and Sig and the rest of the Capt's should distance themselves from him quickly....
my high school graduation present from my parents was a long range trip on the Q-105. I caught a 203lb yellowfin tuna that trip.
Birds of a feather, flock together.
did mr wilson sell it to a phantom buyer?
He claims he sold it. But I think the city of Stockton told him he would have to pay for the clean up of the other two sunken boats?? Iam sure the owners of those two boats could not be found.
I drive by this ship every day during the work week. Noticed a couple days ago while it was still dark that there are a couple lights on towards the rear of the ship. Never noticed them before.
That's not a lot of money. You'd make 1.8 million in the first year of ownership
I'd buy it and hire Jake Anderson back. Lenny the owner is a piece of shit
Very lucky crew. I can’t believe they weren’t located within an hour of the boat sinking ffs. The life raft is SUPPOSED to contain an Epirb - that the crew deploy the moment they inflate the raft and get aboard. They should have been rescued within the hour. The Epirb should be detected within minutes. An Epirb costs a few hundred dollars at most. I can’t believe that both US & apparently Canadian boaters are the dumbest phuks on the planet for going to sea without an Epirb on the boat (it’s supposed to be in a hydrostatic release that pops to surface as the boat sinks) & another inside the life raft. Here downunder it’s illegal to go to sea without an Epirb - you get fined when caught without one. Also a commercial fishing vessel wouldn’t pass annual marine survey inspection to get its commercial fishing license renewed. If it was me, and there was a report of an overdue / missing vessel, and no Epirb location given to go get them, I wouldn’t leave port. There’s no excuse these days not to have them. I’d say let the Phukers swim home, they might learn a much needed lesson & if they don’t make it then that’s just Darwin doing his job draining the shallow end of the gene pool.
someone once said,"airplanes, boats and women, always rent". i still feel sad for him.

They did it again, although diffrent vessel.

I work as an able seaman in the offshore industry in Brazil and the ship that I work on has 9 years into operations. Our crew has 4 AB, 2 paintors and a bosun around the clock chipping, grinding and painting the deck. And even so, the ship needs drydocking every 5 years to fulfill contract requirements and sensible inspections for deep or hidden corrosion. The amount of work that is needed to maintain a ship is insane. Everyone that tries to do that by themselves is doomed to fail. You need a big company with deep pockets to do that, and even so, they are proned to failure. The moment I laid my eyes on this project, I knew it was going to be a massive and expensive fail. Sadly
Thank you for making this video!😊👍
Sorry but this was always a fools folly. I saw one of his videos some years ago and thought you must be kidding. That ship would be falling apart faster than he could fix it up! What a monumental waste of time and money.
Abandoned.
Hope you recover, hows ya son ,karma for being a nasty arshole
I saw that coming from episode one. Watch „Ship Happens“ to get an idea of where to start such a maritime project. Still a dauntng task albeit 20 tomes smaller. But it is being done from the hull to the inside, not the other way around. This cruise ship was doomed from day one. Sadly but inevitably. It was depressing to watch it loose steam and deteriorate into an advertising platform.
Ship Happens was the only reason I knew about this one. They've got the foredeck done.
Common sense would dictate that the hull would be the first thing to repair then interior afterwards
Maritime history, Good Lord, take a photo and scrap that dog of a ship. 😢 There’s no room for sentimentality when millions of dollars are needed to get the ship seaworthy. The maintenance costs alone would bankrupt most well to do types. This is not some mahogany schooner or whaler ship; it’s a blatantly commercial-styled tramp-steamer inspired vehicle making the laps during tourist season. It’s a Clydesdale not a race horse, and the glue factory is on the line.
The reasoning behind the bmw cars not being able to be resold is because they ARE NEW and are not in the resale loop so the manufacturer has the right to block resale, just like Nike John Deere or ford
Fool on a fools errand.Dump a million bucks into a brick.
He has no regrets; he spent 15 years of his life for nothing. He needs to put in 40 years to see the finish. Why are some people so delusional? This was too big a project for 10 volunteers now and again. I love these types of ships from the 50s-real ships-but what was the guy thinking? Obviously, not straight.
BEFORE the start of a refit: 1st: Inspection of the entire ship 2: Compile refit costs based on the previous inventory (materials, technology, etc.) 3: Determine costs for shipyard, dry dock and tools required 4: Determine costs for consumables. double these costs! 5: Double the refurbishment costs determined in this way 6: Clarify financing. Not everything needs to be in place before the start of the project, but a clear financial plan must be drawn up, including any donation commitments once certain progress has been made. 7: If even 1 dollar is missing in the financing, do not start the project!!! So here, considerable mistakes were made and now he has a badly made-up corpse that will bring him further costs. I really wonder why the seaworthiness of the ship was not worked on first. The interior is really the last thing you should be worrying about. Unless you plan never to sail the ship again, but to turn it into a museum. But even then, the hull must be in perfect condition so that it doesn't sink in the harbor after a few years!
I sailed on the Uganda on an educational cruise in 1976. At one point we were hit by a force 9 gale. I distinctly remember how violently the ship rocked from side to side. Anything that wasn't screwed to the deck was sliding back and forth. I was convinced I was going to die! Lots of VERY seasick kids - myself included! My Mom still has the obligatory photo of me holding the ship's wheel and wearing my SS Uganda sailor's hat.
Reliability will be the most important thing, ease of servicing, etc. This is why I am skeptical of the "lowest bidder wins" mentality that seems slanted towards contractors who either lie their ass off about the true costs or else do a shabby job of building it which costs us more in the end when the new vessels turn out to be lemons.
I was watching on UA-cam when that guy was fixing it and I love that ship because it works really great and now I’m really sad
Sad but we have seen this so many times before, some minor tech-bro businessman with moderate wealth thinks they can restore a vessel as a hobby and on a financial shoe-string who then spends many years all their savings plus marriage and gets themselves into crippling debt via loans as the vessel rots away and eventually sinks. As already raised by others over the years this project requires multi-millionaire/billionaire financing with the vessel dry docked and gutted to get rid of any asbestos with restoration of the hull and the ballast tanks, it would also require major hull cuts to allow the engines to be removed for overhaul or even replacement with something newer. It would have made a lovely super yacht and there are examples of this being successfully done but the odds were always against this kind of project.
It'll buff out
It’s a great lesson on how not to renovate a ship
They haven’t started repairing this ferry
First thing you do when you buy an old house fix the roof first thing you do when you buy a big ship put it in dry dock and fix the Hull would make an amazing homeOn my bucket list by a big boat turn it into a house
What a sad ending… I watched Chris’ videos enthusiastically. His passion and energy for the ship was inspiring. What a devastating blow to him…
