    I have a theirs about Elvis. I think God pulled a reverse psychology thing with him. Because of his charisma, sex appeal,, fast-moving hips, etc., EVERYONE was watching Elvis, trying to figure him out - and keep their daughters away from him. As the whole world began to collectively focus on THAT is when this anthem was released. This song was not like any other song Elvis ever did. He had a definite Gospel upbringing and believed in God. When the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, (among other giants of men in this country), it affected Elvis deeply because they were good friends. Elvis was supposed to sing a Christmas song at the end of this 1968 Comeback Tour but he wanted to honor Dr. King. He secretly had his manager arrange to either write the song or have someone else write it. The networks were not informed as they would not have allowed it. The song follows the theme of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. It’s powerful and perfect for the times of racial segregation. I saw a documentary about this song recently and Elvis & his team knew he was going to wear the white suit but weren’t sure what tie to wear with it. Elvis’ manager was driving and stopped by a store and bought this deep red tie - symbolic of those who died defending this country, including those who fought in the Civil Rights “War.” Elvis was against racism, in spite of growing up in the South. He was supposed to give this huge concert in Texas, I think. He and his background singers were going to drive into the stadium all sitting up high in a Cadillac convertible. When the organizers found out that one of his background singers was black, they weren’t going to allow it. Elvis said if they didn’t allow her to come, then he wasn’t coming either. They caved. I believe Elvis was part of The Plan for this country to make a needed course correction. This ballad Elvis sang was part of that. We still have a long way to go where race is concerned but it’s much better than it was. I lived through the Civil Rights Movement and observed a lot of the violence inflicted on blacks at that time. Believe it or not, television was new and still black and white. When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Tennessee so my dad could continue his education. Up until then, we had lived in Calif. where there were lots of races and my parents never “noticed” race so I was not raised to be prejudiced. But in Tennessee, which was part of the South, I witnessed separate drinking fountains for whites and blacks - as well as segregated swimming pools, etc. It made me furious, even though I was very young, because I knew it was wrong. If a 7 yr. old kid can get it, I don’t understand why there are still so many others who don’t.

    Jane H commenting ….. This was a great performance, with Elvis popping in his own lyrics as the mood took him. Elvis often joked around on stage, He could get very playful & the musicians said they had to keep their eyes on him, because they never knew when Elvis would suddenly do something that had not been done in rehearsal. If you want to see some real dance action from Elvis, you should React to the 1970 Las Vegas Suspicious Minds video. Elvis was 3 years younger & definitely much fitter. He was wearing a much lighter weight jumpsuit, whereas this one was a lot heavier. Not only will you see a lot of dance action in the 1970 Las Vegas version, but you will see his playful side. Another great Reaction.

    Jane H commenting ….. I watched this show ‘live’ in New Zealand in 1973, as it was the first Ever live concert to be beamed around the world via satellite, to over 36 countries. It was mind-blowing to know that Elvis was actually performing live on stage as I watched. I had become a fan of Elvis when I was 15 in the mid-1960s, & I was 21 when I watched this. It was such an Amazing experience & one I won’t ever forget. As I lived a long way from America, I knew I would never see him perform in front of me on stage, so this was the very next best thing. Elvis was Magnificent. I’m 72 now, & am enjoying watching Elvis concerts on YT & enjoying Reactions to him & his totally magical voice.

    Jane H commenting ….. It’s always lovely to see your beautiful children joining you. All the ladies seem to know that when Elvis started singing Love Me Tender, there would be some serious kissing going on down at the front. I’m sure Elvis enjoyed this part of the performance as much as they did. When he decided to go on an impromptu walk-about off stage, his bodyguards had to scramble to try & catch up with him, as they pushed their way through the crowd of people. I have heard women saying that their husbands encouraged them to go up front when all that kissing was going on. I imagine all those kissed ladies still cherish that moment they were kissed by Elvis.

    Jane H commenting …. It has absolutely Not been proven that Elvis took his own life. That is just conjecture. The cause of his death will Not be known until 2027, when the autopsy report is publicly released …. I guess that will be in August 2027, as Elvis’ father had the autopsy report sealed up for 50 years & Elvis died in mid-August 1977. If he did die from a drug overdose, it would most likely have been totally accidental ….. what man of such fame as Elvis had, would have chosen to die in his bathroom, face down on the carpet with his pyjama bottoms around his ankle …. & his cherished 9 year old daughter in her bedroom not far away?? The autopsy report showed that Elvis had an enlarged heart, almost twice the size it should have been, which would have been caused by his well-documented very high blood pressure, which was always sky-high after he had performed. That very enlarged heart, meant less space for his lungs to expand, so that put a lot of stress on his respiratory system. The autopsy report also showed that the arteries going into his heart, were almost 80% blocked by plague deposits, thus putting him at a very high risk of having a heart attack. His heart been almost double the size it should have been, put him at a very high risk of his heart suddenly stopping. I have seen young people dying of heart attacks or sudden cardiac arrests when their hearts have been so enlarged. The autopsy did show 10 prescribed narcotics taken over the 24 hours leading up to his death, & most of those had been taken for his well-documented insomnia, which was particularly bad prior to concert tours, & he was about to fly out on the start of a tour that night, so he ended up taking three lots of prescribed medications for insomnia & anxiety. One of the medications in his system at the time of his death, was codeine, given to him at around 4am after some dental treatment … Elvis used to stay up all night, & sleep during the day, hence the 4am trip to the dentist. Now it was also well-documented that Elvis had severe reactions to Codeine, where he would have serious respiratory issues. That he had serious allergic reactions to Codeine, was high-lighted on his medical records, & I presume on his dental records also, so I have no idea why the dentist would have given those to him. Elvis also had a seriously high-bowel-impaction, which would have caused a high level of toxicity into his blood stream. So it is really pointless to say he died of this or he died of that, because there are several serious medical issues that he could have died of. Elvis’ mother died twenty years before his death, of a heart attack. His father had Elvis’ coffin moved onto Graceland, a few days after his death, because some people had been trying to break into it. He also moved the coffin of Elvis’ mother onto Graceland, to be laid next to Elvis.

    Jane H commenting …. I just refuse to watch crazy videos like this. Some people just cannot seem able to accept that Elvis died 16th August 1977. His 9 year old daughter, Lisa Marie, who Elvis absolutely adored, was visiting with her daddy, & when she heard all the commotion going on, she went running into the bathroom & she saw her beloved daddy dead on the floor. She never got over losing her father like that, & she became a child with a lot of anger issues that had to have counselling, after her daddy died. Poor Lisa Marie had such a tragic life, losing her daddy when she was just 9, & then losing her son when he was 27. She never got over either of those loses, & she died recently of a cardiac arrest at the age of 54. Elvis lost his beloved mother when he was 22, & she was 47, & he never got over losing her, so who in their right mind would Ever think he would be cruel enough to do that to the daughter he adored. Elvis died 47 years ago at the age of 42. People need to accept that fact & let that wonderful man Rest In Peace.

    Jane H commenting ….. I always cry when I hear Elvis praising God like this, with such amazing power in his voice. He was very sick & died just 8 weeks later … a number of serious health issues including problems with his heart, plus an addiction to prescription medication.He was 42 years old, & the brightest star in the music world went out the day he left us.

    Elvis was a very spiritual man who had great faith in Jesus & his Father God. He was a very sick man by 1977, & died on August 16, 1977, just 8 weeks after this concert. But Elvis never gave less than 100% when he sang, & he knew he was not going to be long in this world, & he just belted out this song, which was one of his favourites, to thank & praise God.

  • @davidharrison1523
    @davidharrison1523 20 днів тому

    Elvis grew up in a very poor black community in Mississippi, & his friends were the black children he played with as a young boy of 7 until his parents moved to Memphis when he was 14, so he was influenced by the music he heard all around him as a young child. His skin might have been white, but Elvis had a strong affinity for his black brothers & he hated any form of racism, & it was heartbreaking for us fans to hear a new generation who didn’t actually know what had gone on in his life, calling him racist & saying he stole black music. He didn’t steal it. That was what he had grown up with, & of course all of us are influenced by what we experienced as children, & we carry that on into adulthood life. People love to tear down an Icon, & Elvis was an Icon, who as an 18 year old became an almost overnight megastar. He took black music, gave it his own spin, & gave it to white audiences at a time when there were harsh segregation laws where he came from. He refused to back down & start singing ‘white’ music, standing still as all singers did back then. He was arrested & faced a jail sentence, as authorities saw him as a very dangerous person, but they knew there would be rioting all over America if they jailed him, so he was drafted into the army & then packed off to post-war Germany for 2 years. They thought he would just fade away into obscurity, but they didn’t know the determination & strength of Elvis Presley.

    Jane H commenting … I always feel so sad for Elvis when he sings this song, because in 72 his wife left him for another man, & took his beloved little daughter with her, to another state. They were divorced early in 1973, & he was never the same after that. His health started going downhill from this time onwards, until his death at the age of 42 in 1977, so just four years away from him performing in this huge concert …. The first ever concert to be beamed around the world to 36 countries. I watched it in New Zealand & he was magnificent. He actually lost his beloved mother when he was 22, & he never got over losing her. She died of a heart attack at the age of 47. And Elvis lost his only child, his daughter, Lisa Marie, when she was 54 of a cardiac arrest, but of course he never knew about that, as she was only 9 years old when he died. But the ‘mountain’ was probably referring to his divorce & the loss of his daughter.

    Jane H commenting …. Joining your channel for your Elvis Reactions. I’ve been an Elvis fan since I was 15 in mid-1960s & still a big fan at 72. Elvis had his songwriters write this song after Martin Luther King was assassinated, because of his deep upset over this. Elvis privately helped with the funding of the MLK movement, & is said to have spoken on the phone with MLK at least once. Elvis wanted to live in a world where there was peace & understanding between his black brothers & his white brothers. He had grown up in a very poor black community, & had a strong affinity with black people & had a number of black friends, such as the great Muhammed Ali, James Brown, & Sami Davis Jnr. They were close friends of his. There is just so much that people do not know about Elvis, who was a very generous & loving soul. He has been dead for 47 years now, & he still has a huge number of fans worldwide, & not just us older ones either.
