Turning Passion into Legacy: How An Artist Blends Art, Sports, and Purpose
In this episode of The Real Build, I sat down with Vinnie Candelore, the creative director at 1 Team Media and owner of VC2 Art. Vinnie specializes in a wide range of artistic mediums, including paintings, custom shoes, art prints, and murals. He also hosts The Athletic Aesthetic Podcast, where art and sports connect through engaging conversations.
Vinnie grew up working from a young age, and after trying out different jobs, he never found something he truly loved. However, as a child, Vinnie always had a passion for drawing and painting. After walking away from a job, he decided to fully commit to his true passion-painting-and the rest is history.
Today, Vinnie paints portraits of some of the top athletes in various sports and designs custom shoes for many of them. He has also become a major contributor to the growth of 1 Team Media in Pittsburgh, PA.
Vinnie and I discussed several topics, including:
Why it's essential to pursue your true passion and find a job where you give back, not just take. The perfectionist mindset.Building a lasting legacy through the gift of art.

Why We Build Above Sea Level In Southwest Florida

Culture is 'earned over time' through the actions and behaviors of everyone within that organization. ua-cam.com/video/akDIL91fatM/v-deo.html
I 100% agree with this. Good culture takes time to build. Its all about the actions and behaviors of the team.
Why are they focusing this dumb ass when they should be focusing on the fire place thing. 😡
The house in the video is at 11 foot above sea level. The code is different throughout the area we build in. So could be 9,10,11, or even 12 feet. A lot of clients go higher then the code. Been doing a lot of new builds at 11 and 12.
@@Reimanmedia awesome! Thanks for the reply. Love watching the builds happen. My family is building in Punta Gorda just above 12ft above sea level. Had about a 9-9.5 ft surge from Milton where they are located.
What is your target height above sea level for the living area? Do you build the same height for each build (on canal system) or does it vary by build/client? Thanks!
If you can run your hands through it where does the heat come from?
@@johna5368 its water vapor so you can run your hand through it. The heat comes from vents a long the fireplace. Has a built in heater.
Can you tell me the name brand of the fireplace please.

Dang guys 😱
Just wondering if you can do that to my home I'm in Missouri I don't know if you have a company out here but please contact and let me know I would love to put that on my stucco house
Hi unfortunately we do not have a company branch up your way. I would try to contact any of your local stucco companies and see if they offer or can do stucco siding.
Can you add that siding look over an existing stucco home?
Yes absolutely!
The condo collapse in south Florida was from, at least in part, from rebar rotting inside the foundation. What's to keep the loops, rebar, etc. from rotting inside these pilings? What is your expectation as to how long these pilings will maintain their design strength against the elements? Are we talking 20 years, 70 years, 100 years? What then?
Beautiful nice style 😍 ❤
Thank you! We are glad you loved it!
I wanna see you build more houses😉

Watch it blown away from hurricane in seconds.😂
Went through Hurricane Ian still standing with no damage at all. Crazy how we build by strict hurricane codes here in Florida :)

Wood NO Good!
💯
Is that a terrazzo floor?
No they were Porcelain.
From project experience, the Zip system seems to be well worth the investment.
Yes definitely is. So many more benefits compared to standard plywood
Actually there is lots of the cement siding ( hardi board ) used here in Florida also. As for the plastered on cement siding, it is considerably more labor intensive and therefore more costly. However, it can be done on masonry homes as well as frame homes without applying wood stripping onto the block walls.
Until payback is less than 4 years, ... many will not be interested.
I agree that payback needs to get better and will over time. Interest is still pretty high with it. As the technology gets better everything else comes with it. Appreciate you commenting.
There’s plenty of interest with a 30 year payback. When payback actually approaches 12-15 years they won’t be able to make enough of these things.
@@LifeLongLearner-om8jx 100% agree
How does the invoice have to look when charging the company? I put one together but just wanted to see if mine is okay.
Hi happy to help. Are you talking about what the invoice looks like to fix the touchups and other damage on things? Usually, our painter has an amount included in the original invoice for punch out work. Also, other subcontractors usually include punch out items as part of their warranty coverage. Hope this helps.
Why are there different size stucco siding in this video? Shouldn’t lines be level from one area to another to the other?
Not sure what you are seeing David. All lines were level on this project. 🤨
I watched the video twice and all the lines were well leveled. and the work is perfect.
I'm the same.way and i only have done 300k to 700k homes. Like it perfect
Got to be perfect. Thanks for commenting.

@@Reimanmedia Absolutely, you recently popped up in my feed, I am sure you know this youtube stuff is all algorithms so great content creators sometimes take time to grow. Will be binging your past catalog, great stuff!
“You get what you pay for” is a phrase I hear used a lot to justify high costs, but not everyone charging an arm and a leg is actually worth the money. The cheap, poor quality contractors have caught on and realize if they charge MORE people will think they’re somehow high quality and they’ll get more jobs (despite delivering bargain quality at best). And in the reverse, there’s only so many big budget clients out there. There’s a real market and a need for guys who can do quality work at an affordable price. We’re not all millionaires trying to build a house. Those guys are doing great work and charging less than the hypothetical poor quality contractor above who raises his rates. Sometimes builders pass along their discounts to the client, or buy in bulk, or have relationships with subs that get them deals and all of that leads to a lower bottom line. If all you look at is price you’re going in blind, regardless of it that’s a big number or little number. You need to know where the number is coming from and if someone is charging an arm and a leg they damn well better be able to prove to you that they’re worth it BEFORE you sign on the dotted line or break ground. Just my 2 cents. Appreciate the video and the discussion
how did you connect the piles to footings.. did not see that video?
They were just tied in with Rebar and concrete.
nice build!!! did you use any precast hollowcore slab? if so how did you do rough plumbing on it
Thank you! No Hollowcore on this one. We did floor trusses. The client did not want to go with precast.
@@Reimanmedia What windows did you use on this project? i am sure they are impact windows but curious to know the make and material of window
@@shenoyglobal This one is impact and will have Anderson Windows
I always notice how all of your construction sites are SO CLEAN. The way you do anything is how you do everything. Congrats on the build progress.
Yes its a priority that we keep them clean. We make sure all the sub contractors know the expectation of a clean site is important to us. Thank you hope you are doing great!
Why not just do veneer plaster. Faster no sanding needed.
Great question. I think it is based on the market. There aren't a lot of skilled crews that can do veneer plaster in my area. Yes, I agree plaster can have a nicer finish and last longer over time, but you have to be skilled at doing it. If you mess up with drywall mud, you sand it down and redo it and you are ok. Plaster can also cost more to do in certain markets. There are a few variables.
@@Reimanmedia You should look into it. Veneer plaster should be ale to compete with a level five in price. A lot of stucco men know how to veneer plaster that's where the plaster went when the trade died.I got lucky I was taught the trade in the early 80s. I was able to make a career out of it retired this past summer.
@@alen5d1 Yes, I'm definitely going to look into it more around here and see if I can find someone. I appreciate you mentioning it. I'll message you if I have any questions about it.
I want to enclose my soffits here in Vero beach with densglass and stucco over that and install 3'' soffit vents afterwards. I have a metal roof, am I allowed to close off the soffit?
Hi Jon, what type of installation is in the attic? Do you have roof vents? I ask because the home in the video had spray foam. As long as there is proper ventilation still you should be fine. I would just make sure a good licensed contractor does the work.
@@Reimanmedia Hi Bill, thanks for responding, its blown in insulation from when the house was built in 2006. I had just had the metal roof installed 4 months ago, it has a solar powered roof vent.
@@jonlebon5086 Hi Jon, You are definitely going to need some kind of venting on the soffit. They can remove the aluminum soffit vents and add continuous vents to it. The stucco company you are using should provide them once they close up the vents. Hope this helps!
Remember that Densglass is essentially drywall with a face covering that mortar will adhere to. Ive used it on a frame wall in my garage and for that it worked well. Yes it is being used on things like shopping centers with stucco finishes. Again, time will tell as to how it holds up for exterior applications. Id personally prefer a ventilated vinyl soffit system.
John if you do install the smaller 3" soffit vents, you may want to consider adding a dehumidifier in the attic. You want that insulation to stay dry as possible.
👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
May I ask your mix ratio
this guy makes it sound like level five is a big deal. all custom homes are done level five. he makes it sound like his company is unique in that. he's not. we do custom as well and it's always level five as well.
Actually Martin you are incorrect. Not every custom builder in my area does level 5 as a standard. A lot of builders do a textured finish which is a lot easier to do (less labor) and hides imperfections on the wall. That's why I did this video 🙂
@@Reimanmedia actually bill reiman they are not doing custom if they are not doing level five finishes. period. you can argue that all you want but that is a fact.
@@martincarnahan381 Sounds great. Not here to argue with you on UA-cam. Best of luck to you and your building business.
It is a big difference in a painter and come behind drywallers every single job not every job is spec out for level 5 finish because the price it will cost to do that last skim coat on entire walls . Most ppl drywall contractors will tell you their level 4 is as good as level 5 or something like that as a selling point to be cheaper than other companies to get jobs ! I haven’t ran into many level 5 finishes and I live in the keys with multi million dollar homes so this dude ain’t lying
