The Ryder Family Farm
United States
Приєднався 15 лис 2017
We are first generation farmers and transplants to the Southern Illinois area, born and raised in the vast Arizona deserts.
In 2013 we began our commercial farming journey with a small fruit & vegetable CSA, homemade goat milk soaps and UDSA licensed poultry eggs. We keep dairy goats, a Jersey cow, Katadhin hair sheep, heritage turkeys, ducks and chickens. Most recently we've added garden mums to our growing rotation.
Our ideal farm does not feed everyone in the surrounding area but it does provide the most diverse products all produced while complimenting & coexisting with one another. Allowing us to grow your food helps you feed your family and it invests in our future as farmers which in turn invests in you, the community and local food security. Thanks for stopping by to check us out. Subscribe to keep in touch!

Chicken lady attacked by angry mama duck
Переглядів 41 тис.4 роки тому
Our mama duck had a clutch of eggs that she sat on. Two of the entire clutch were good, the rest were bad. Mama duck took the first hatched duckling and ran off leaving the second egg abandoned so we threw it in our incubator with some other eggs. Several other duck eggs hatched and we kept giving ducklings to mama duck. She's very possessive and my attempt at a cute duckling video morphed into...

How do I know if my goat will grow horns? Polled vs non-polled goat kids
Переглядів 1 тис.6 років тому
The goat kids in this video resulted from the unintentional breeding of a Kinder buck and a polled French Alpine Doe. I believe one is polled (the doeling) and one is not polled (the buckling). Interestingly, the doeling looks like her dam (her mama) and the buckling looks like his sire (his daddy). A polled goat kid is a one that is born genetically without horns and will not grow horns, ever....

No More Heat Lamps!!! A peek my new heat plate chick warmer.
There could be a week difference or more between the first egg laid till the last. One of my Guinea nests had 32 eggs. That’s from multiple hens laying in the same nest. Not all 32 eggs were laid the same day.
Good farming, love your farm from Pakistan
That looks more like a thick trace. Everyone else explains gel phase differently, and it's always in the mold when they show it.
How much days guinea fowl eggs take to hatched?
They take 28 days.
Thanks Dear
I'm having a slightly similar issue with a 3 joule charger and Premier fencing. The meter reads 8,000 volt but I can hold the fence and just get a light zap but if I disconnect the metal connecting tabs or touch the fence and grounding rod, it will about knock you off your feet. Assuming you've been shocked at least once, how much of a physical jolt does yours have now that you fixed that problem?
That's trace. Not gel.😊
Great job with this! I also wondered about this a year ago but had trouble finding examples. I'm impressed you can do this with such a large flock. My system is for six chickens: www.steelbridgecoffee.com/blog/chicken-door
Love your video
So I've been reading that the ground has to be 95 degrees with new chicks. I got a heat plate thinking, hey, it's like mom above but it doesn't get the ground warm. I lost 3 babies when I had that thing in and only one under the awful heat lamp. Can you offer some advice?
My first thought is "is the plate low enough?" Right after hatch I have mine tilted way down... so far that the chick's whole back can make contact with the heat plate. AND I put corn cob bedding under a paper towel underneath the warmer (it provides a non-slippery warm bedding underneath). I wont add my chicks to the brooder box with the heat plate until they are 100% dry and fluffy following hatch (about 24 hours after hatch they move to the brooder/ plate setup). Does this help? Maybe you can send me pics of your setup for more advice?
@@Talinan I had it about an inch and a half in the back and then about two and a half inches in the front and it was pushed back in the corner. I think they got stuck under there and got too hot maybe. :'(
What are the measurements for the heat plate?
It's a square 12 x 12 inch. Height adjusts from 1.5" - 6"
Good video! I have used similar plastic tube setup for a brooder, except larger (I raise more chicks at a time). I was playing with the idea of switching to a hot plate once I run out of heat bulbs.
I'm on year two with this heat plate. Totally do not regret the purchase.
I love that rock I'll give you fifty bucks for that rock. But if I buy it from you will you please order graph it for me.
do u know mason
Mason Ramsey? I do actually.
Wow, another SIL homesteader. Checking in from Norris City
I see your ladies are getting underneath. I just brought my ladies home a few hours ago and they are staying far away from it. How do you get them to want to go under it? I have set them all under it, but they lasted only a short time? Any help would be appreciated.
Are they cheeping loudly or are they quiet? Mine only go under when they are cold. Maybe yours aren't cold?
Just after typing I go in to check on them after not hearing any chirping for a while and they are all underneath it chilling without a peep...haha Thanks for replying...I already love these little ones.
I make soap too:) I used to use goat milk when we had milking does. Now I just have to use store bought cow milk( boo!) Milk soap is my favorite way though. Something about that creamy feel of the soap makes it all worth it, lol.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've been meaning to try making cows milk soap with a homesteader friend! How would you say it compares to goats milk soap? I'm curious.
They both seem to be creamy. My only opinion, I guess, would be that I had to buy the cow's milk and it didn't come from my own animal, lol. I don't really notice much of a difference .
Oh, my heart! What a sweetie!
It's hard to know we cant keep them all... I try to remember how much it's gonna cost to feed them when they're in ultimate cute form.
