And for all the doubters, watch Rachel Garcia's slow motion swing (if you want to see one of the best college players ever stay long through the ball).
Good stuff - tell me why you want front tee lower on the 2 ball? When I do similar drills with my girls, I put the front ball up just a little higher to promote a slight upward swing path.
The frustrating part about coaches is that if u as a parent don’t know.... then what he’s saying is gold and you’ll defend him. He’s not bad at least he’s trying to help and giving her a good foundation per say....
The swing is ok..... left arm is leaking..... she has to stay connected... basically the left arm pit and bicep need to stay connected to her body at contact.... she may still be successful but she can get better... there’s levels to this... just saying he’s ( the coach) is not there yet👍🏽 keep working
This is bad. These drills do nothing more than promote pushing the ball. Short to. . .you are demonstrating to push the knob down in front of your body. This is NOT how elite hitters swing the bat.
Wow Steve!!!! I am glad that you have showed me the inperfections of these techniques. I am sure that you have delivered many elite hitters to the NCAA, men and women, plus the MLB and PFP look forward to more these elite hitters that you have trained to or critiqued. This is core fundamentals of hitting development that will take time to perfect. By no way this is overnight success with video. Let me know who you work for as a challenge from me to you.
Nothing but ground balls with this swing. Proof is when the kid hit two ground balls on last two swings. And yet the hitting coach puts front tee lower then back tee as if instructing kid to drive ball into the ground. Do the math. Three outfielders in the largest part of the field. Six infielders in the smallest part of the field. Get the ball in the air girls.
Jake Lang . No silly. Hit line drives over the infielders heads. Stop hitting top of ball to induce ground balls when girls get faster, quicker, and stronger arms as they get older.
If your a right side batter and your pulling the ball down and to your left as you pointed out, you have to ask why she is doing it in the first place. By your own admission you state "your either rolling your hands or your opening up too soon which Brooklyn does a lot". A simple indicator is she is not keeping her hands inside the ball. But why is that? If you start at her feet it would you show right away why she opens up her front side. She doesn't come to heel plant. Her feet are turning during the course of her swing, which cause a front leg to lock out dead straight, toe and knee pointing forward, forcing her hips back to open prematurely which of course works up toward the shoulder. in order for her to stay inside the ball she has to compensate casting her hands slightly therefore failing to stay inside the ball. Fix that link in the kinetic chain, and she will be more consistent to contact. Palm up/palm down, short to/long thru are 100%. correct. JMHO
+Kraemer27 Then what are you suggesting? If you are saying that what I am teaching is wrong then what is the correct technique? Just your word is not good enough...so far.
it actually kind of is wrong you wanna follow through with hitting you don't just wanna stop you don't get power really if you just stop.....I'm not hating or anything
+Winterwolf139 yes. but in this he's just wants to stress contact. he suggests that after this drill you do soft toss and/or heavy bags do work on extension
This a good drill. I've used it from time to time when my hitters are tending to pull off the ball or pulling the middle or middle out pitch too much. You mentioned that your hitter opens her front side "A lot". I noticed from the video her front foot tends to rotate prior to heel plant which will cause her whole front side to open prematurely. Just my observation. thank you for the video.
Power is developed in one's hips and legs. The kinetic chain demands that the swing starts in the legs, hips firing....aka rotation off the front axis then the limbs follow.
I like the concept of this drill, but Shoulders closed until impact? And as typical, the idea of short to the ball is demonstrated as a direct line to the ball, then finish long through the ball. That would be too steep and cause an A to C-V swing. Also, as he sets up the last drill he puts the front tee a tad lower, which would have her swinging down. I believe I heard him say something about a flatter swing, which I can agree with to a certain extent. Especially in fastpitch. The first time she does this drill he claims she rotated too quickly...how can you tell without video? She swings too fast. I've tried stopping the video and it seems to me she either rolled her wrist too early or she swung up too much, but I am just guessing without video. Doing drills like this without video and teaching off of results just doesn't make sense to me, but what do I know?
This is good stuff and correct technique. The only thing I would like to add is a when doing drills where you stop at the attack point you run the risk of having your players do that in a live situation so you need to stress finishing the swing.
ua-cam.com/video/mQ1jEhqDMBQ/v-deo.html Rachel Garcia around the 2:00 mark

Wrong on so many levels

No, it's all pretty bad. Unless you want to hit a bunch of ground balls and weak pop ups.
The swing is ok..... left arm is leaking..... she has to stay connected... basically the left arm pit and bicep need to stay connected to her body at contact.... she may still be successful but she can get better... there’s levels to this... just saying he’s ( the coach) is not there yet👍🏽 keep working
This is the best hitting tips video I’ve probably ever seen, better hitting advice than I’ve got from any of my coaches
Ineffective! Swing in the plane of the ball one drill. 🙄
Shouldn't she swing all the way thru?
Jake Lang part of the drill
Just put Brooklyn on the spot why don't you lol

maybe she's not elite?
Maybe she plays ball at a college. Is that a critique of being "elite"?

She is stopping her swing and not swinging through
get it in the air so it gets caught and she's an out?
Jake Lang . No silly. Hit line drives over the infielders heads. Stop hitting top of ball to induce ground balls when girls get faster, quicker, and stronger arms as they get older.
That's not fair. You won't just hit ground balls with this swing. You'll also hit a bunch of weak flares and popups to the opposite side.
She is really tight. I like the drill but she needs to add a bigger reverse load to this drill
she is blocking the ball, I suggest you consider ted Williams , hands in barrel out that simple.
Thanks Ben. I love this video. This should help. : )
Darrin Cooley your welcome
i see everyone else here is in the hall of fame
maximumbatspeed explains this concept very well.

So her body shouldn't move is that what your saying basically?
Good point. very helpful!
Hi. What type of batting-T is being used? Thanks. I'll apply this concept to my daughters who are just starting out in 5-6u and 8u.
Tanner Tee
This is horseshit
+Kraemer27 How good does you daughter bat?
Why would it matter? What you teach is damaging and wrong.
+Kraemer27 Then what are you suggesting? If you are saying that what I am teaching is wrong then what is the correct technique? Just your word is not good enough...so far.

very good, I like the concept...good demonstration, your young lady has a good swing...nice job!
+Joseph Rhodes Thanks Joseph and The Emperor will guide my bat to glory!!!

Hello Kelly This is considered tee work for the batter. I suggest after that drill that you hit the heavy bag and then soft toss. Hope that helps.
Very helpful
