When do I need a CURRICULUM for Arizona ESA?!?

NOTE: You can't buy a CAR with ESA funds. My examples got a little carried away in my excitement 😁. It's easy to get confused (especially with the latest program changes) when you need to submit a curriculum for ESA reimbursements. Hopefully this video helps describe it...along with getting you excited about what is REALLY possible with homeschooling!!!!!

BOOM! New AZ ESA Supplementary Material Requirement.

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) has "dropped the blade" on a specific category of ESA Parent Directed funding: Supplementary Materials (no documentation required). These are intended to encompass all the school supplies that curriculum would require but not explicitly call out. In this video, I'll explain what this means and how to work alongside these new requirements to STILL get th...

Welcome to the Introductory Video for the Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program in Arizona for 2023! Resource 1: Arizona ESA Program Handbook - bit.ly/AZESAProg
Love your content I just discovered your page, do you have an instagram page?
I think you lost me on this one. ESA started because of special needs and disabled students. ESA was expanded as a loophole for the republican party to make homeschooling easier. People of all parties are using the program. How about we as citizens do our job and make sure all candidates of any party know that the ESA program needs to stay expanded. Love the reminder to vote. I just would have left it at; do your research before you vote, and not push some fear to vote for one party or the other.
Did you read the article? The Democratic Party has literally stated they will revert the expansion of ESA to private and homeschool students. I’ve done my homework 😄. Yes, title should hav been Democrats = Death of ESA for Homeschool and Private schools…but that’s too long :-)
If you wanted people to read the article, you should actually link your source. Yes, I could find it if I wanted to, but you are the one giving us the bare minimum. You want to prove your point, so prove it. Your opinion does not mean you are spitting facts. I disagree with your opinion, which is totally ok. Not the end of the world.
make a video on how to use the Classwallet store, like the amazon vendor, we dont have the money to buy things with our own money and wait for them to pay us back
That's a great idea. I'll add it to my list!
I wish I could move to Arizona, mainly because the weather would be wonderful for my body and secondly for the homeschool grants 😊
Please keep making ESA videos
Thank you! Please keep the videos coming. Do I need to submit curriculum for picture books? I mean any random picture book I desire to read to my children?
Nope - ALL books can fall under the "curriculum" category of funding (it's in the drop down box when you submit) - no supplemental material needed.
These videos are seriously so helpful! Thank you so much for posting them! I'm curious, my kids have been in school this year; tomorrow is their last day at public school, so I plan to apply for the ESA. I was wondering if you know whether I need to submit the affidavit of intent to homeschool if I'm also applying for the ESA? I read that you're not supposed to submit the affidavit if applying for the ESA, but I'm not sure if that applies to homeschool kids using the ESA, or a different category of students that use the ESA. Thank you in advance!
You're correct (on NOT submitting the affidavit). If you're receiving ESA funding, you fall under a weird "category" in the AZ state program that is different from homeschooling. They'll actually request you WITHDRAW your homeschool affidavit before applying.
@@educationcorner6512Interesting! Okay, thank you!
Has anybody used this template for approval? My wife and I have been getting denied left and right for dumb things like paper and pens and even sports equipment for softball and soccer
I've used it plenty of times...however, I create SPECIFIC templates for sporting equipment. Often it depends on the rep you get at ESA - some are there to help, some are there to follow the rules. KEY POINT: You're in a government program - read what they say when they deny you and resubmit following what they want you to do.
I really appreciate you sharing this knowledge, and helping others be successful at navigating this . Thank you so much 😊
OMG!!!! Thank you so much for the links! You have no idea how much this helps me! I have been denied so many times now for orders I've put in through ESA Classwallet because I had no idea what they are looking for regarding sending a curriculum. This is perfect! Like t.lalloyd2100 said, you are a LIFESAVER!!
Just chiming in to say THANK YOU for the great content. We are considering a jump to homeschooling and doing our due diligence.
I see you're looking at the 23-24 handbook. Assuming it applies for now too?
Yep - they're in the process of revising the handbook for 24-25 school year.
also question if i wanted to do graphic designing or like digital painting could i get a laptop that has better gpu which is like gaming laptops and stuff like that as a laptop like that is needed to do graphic designing and digital painting
Absolutely would be covered.
@@educationcorner6512 okay thank you!!
wait so i have a question can we still get a desk and a chair
Good. Question. I've seen ESA go both ways - the parent handbook explicitly DENIES "home furnishings" but ALLOWS desks and chairs in the "Supplementary Material (no doc required)" section. Only surefire way to know is to call or email ESA folks and ask how you can submit the desk/chair.
How do you submit this document if you purchase something through the marketplace?
The marketplace is "explicitly allowed" - they're trying to create that as the future way to purchase items to remove subjectivity.
This is my first year using this program. My kids are enrolled with BJU and Abeka, they have video lessons, and I was denied buying a desk and computer for my teenager. I don’t even know where to start and what proof to give them.
The computer can be submitted as a "Technological Device" - that is explicitly allowed in the parent handbook. On the desk, I've seen ESA go both ways - the parent handbook explicitly DENIES "home furnishings" but ALLOWS desks and chairs in the "Supplementary Material (no doc required)" section. Only surefire way to know is to call or email ESA folks and ask how you can submit the desk/chair.
Thank you for all your help through your videos! When are they supposed to update the handbook? Do we need to create a separate curriculum for each subject? I also saw that you have to list book titles of the books you will want to read as well? sorry, this is my first year and this is all so overwhelming and i don't want to screw this up. 😓
They will update the handbook somewhere in the first half of 2025 for the new school year. You only need to create a curriculum if you're building something custom that you aren't using an "official curriculum" for (i.e. Abeka, Sunlight, etc... are all curriculum textbooks that tell what you need for a class). For example, our kids participate in a club baseball program. I had to create a curriculum for that equipment since there's no "official book" I followed.
Can you order a desk under the ESA?

Hi there i just got a message back after a month and got this .....ACTION NEEDED: Suggestion to complete curriculum: Add Scope/sequence of information to be taught Add: Description of activities, exercises, and/or problems that will be used to assess learning. All curriculum elements must be met. See page 20 of the ESA Parent Handbook for an example. To ensure compliance with state law ALL supplementary materials require a curriculum (A.R.S. §15-2401(2). Any advice ? My kid needs laptop for online school hes going too. Thanks.
This just happened to me. Did you have any luck? What did you do?
If you just want to buy a laptop, you don't need a curriculum. That falls under the "Technological Device" category of purchases and can just ... be done. That said, they're telling you your curriculum is coming up short. They want you to add a list of activities you do (high level) with your kids using that curriculum. I've seen this happen a couple times - if they determine the curriculum is TOO generic, they'll ask you to specifically describe the activities that require you to purchase the item you are requesting. So...do that! and resubmit.
see my other reply.
We love ESA, our kids are getting real tutor help reading, writing, math, great curriculum they offer. No pushing agendas not related to learning math, english, science, and much more we still believe in teaching, class rooms, but for smaller children and youg adolescence it is perfect and safe.
Good stuff! Thanks 👍
Do I need to submit the final receipt/invoice for items purchased through Class Wallet Vendor or Direct pay after they've already been approved? Or os it only if you pay out of pocket. Forgive me if I missed that in the video!
6:10 you didn't blur out the amount
also further on, kid's name isn't blurred. Anyhoo, I love your videos, they're very helpful. Funds just hit our ESA wallets and looking to get some equipment
Does this only apply for homeschool students, or can you go this route for private school ESA students?
Thank you so much for this video! I am an older sister trying to help my mom understand these rules. What if she purchased online curriculum (Time4Learning) what would you write then for the scope/sequence sections? Would you just reference the purchased curriculum?
Thanks for the template. I will give it a shot.
You are amazing!
Thank you so much for this information! It will definitely be a game changer for us as a family. I wish AZ would crack down on these schools misappropriating funds instead of trying to crack down on homeschooling families trying to buy pencils, paper, and basic school supplies. But for now, this is how we fight back. So thankful for the ESA community who has always been so helpful to me. They should bring back the debit card for us newer families for these types of expenses but I know that's mostly wishful thinking. If anything, the state wants to make it harder and more inconvenient for families to homeschool their kids so they feel discouraged and return to the public school system.
Thank you so much!
The car thing may be pushing it lol they legit just rejected me for ink, printer paper, and pencils with a curriculum and these items don't even require that🤦🏽♀️idk wassup with the new rules but we aren't able to do basic things like print or write without being heavily questioned?
Your content is so helpful! Thank you for taking the time to teach what you know. It’s very appreciated.
How do you print it Please
You're awesome thank you
Hey we're thinking of joining the local trampoline Park and they have a form already going for ESA. Do we need to generate a curriculum for that or is it under gym membership category? Also, there's a space for tutors names, if we full that in, do I need photocopies if their diplomas?
Has anyone who has purchased a apple tablet has included apple care??
I have and yes it was fine
@@educationcorner6512 I bought macbooks through Amazon and Apple care. Apple care is a separate purchase. Did you submit for reimbursement with the macbook and apple care combined in the same submittal or separate? thanks
Thanks for sharing! This is so helpful as I"m just now applying for ESA & navigating how to do all of this. Are the scope & sequence of this general curriculum meant to cover all grade levels generically, or do you think I need to get more specific for different levels?
I've heard different representatives at ESA receive the curriculum differently (yes...vague). Some have no issue. Some reject it and request more specificity. At that point, just revise the curriculum to focus more on the specific needs and resubmit.
@@educationcorner6512 thanks for clarifying.
My son is 9 and this would be his first time playing in a little league baseball team. I know other kids play since they are like 4 and I want him to get really good coaching at least for the 1st season. I looked into a Legends Speedball team but it's $650.00. Would they give me pushback because it's so expensive? (That's the cost for the whole season from September 9th to November 17th.
Negative. ESA doesn't care about the actual amounts, just that it meets the program requirements (which have no limitations on amounts). We are in club sports that have similar fees.
I just got approved for the ESA scholarship for my daughter who is in kindergarten. How do i know what homeschool program is approved? Does it have to be private school?? Will the good and the Beautiful homeschool program work?
ALL homeschool programs are approved. Check out this video - you can even create your own curriculums that describe what you are doing. ua-cam.com/video/daR85NaVHY4/v-deo.html
Also, if we are new to Arizona from a different State, is it the same process,or will we need to wait a certain amount of time?
Nope - same process. They'll verify your "state identity" through electric bills or some similar artifact.
Thank you for yours information! We have 9 kids and this would be a huge help. Question, what curriculums are ok with ESA? Can curriculum companies, for example, The Good and the Beautiful, Abeka, Master Books etc...? What if we wanted to purchase something from Christian book? What about drivers education? Thank you.
ANY curriculum is good with ESA - they'll even let homeschoolers create their own. Simply categorize it as "Curricula and supplementary material" on the Classwallet submission.
Hi, my child will be 5 on september 23, 2025. Will we have to wait until july (Q1) of 2025 to apply? Or are we allowed to apply sooner? Thank you!
Yes - you have to wait until July 2025
Is it ok if i buy multiple technology like getting a tablet, computer set up, and a laptop or do I have to pick one out of these options
Totally fine to buy them all.
Hi, can I add my own curriculum as I go through the school year or do I have to have a curriculum already preplan and set up for the year and buy all the supplies at once? Sorry if I confuse you.
You can add it whenever you need to submit for ESA reimbursement. There's no requirement for curriculum by a certain date.
Do you have to upload diploma every time if its the same person doing lesson?
Also what if the tutor was home schooled and doesn't have HS Diploma
Yes
From my understanding, that disqualifies them from tutoring. That’s one I would contact AZ ESA directly to confirm.
So then , let’s say it’s an older sibling who is still in high school but has AP and honors classes and is well advanced for his / her age does that also disqualify them from tutoring for recompensation?
Can you keep the piano for good
Yep!
Thank you for your videos they are helpful you explain really good
Good evening how long does it take to get approved for wallet
Anywhere from 2-4 weeks in my experience
I had this thought… could we essentially create a curriculum and an invoice to be our children’s teachers? I’m not trying to scheme or scam. It just seems fair that if that money can be used to pay for private teachers and tutors, why can’t we as parents also be compensated? We got diplomas/degrees and are devoting our time to educating the kids while our spouses are working their butts off to make sure we can do this. It would be nice to be able to take a little of that stress off them.
Would be nice, but they explicitly deny this in the parent handbook.
This is very helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and putting these documents together!
Can you do a more in-depth video on how to get club baseball reimbursement? Please! Dues and private lessons in particular!
