Possibly our favourite place of the trip so far! Vang Vieng is beautiful and the perfect place for a hot air balloon ride. We also go for a very hard hike and kayak down the river.

Part 2 of our Laos trip takes us to Don Det Island where we go on a tuk tuk tour to waterfalls, dolphin view point and an old war train. We then head to The River Resort in Champasak to celebrate new year. This is one of the most beautiful and affordable resorts you will ever see.

Our family arrive to join us for the next leg of our trip. Just two hours from Hanoi, we visit the beautiful Ninh Binh and enjoy rowing down the river, hiking to a view point and riding bicycles.

Sapa, located in the north of Vietnam, was one of our favourite destinations! The views are like nothing we have ever seen before. While we were there we also climbed the biggest mountain in Vietnam, with a little help from a world record breaking cable car!

Our next destination took us to the top of Vietnam, just 2 hours from the Chinese boarder to a town called Cao Bang. Check out this 5 star hotel we stayed at, and you won’t believe the price! Unfortunately it didn’t all go to plan, so we also had to check out a Vietnamese hospital 😬

Would you mind extrapolating on how you went down to the beach and rented your boat? Did you haggle? Tell them what you wanted to do or do they all have a set program of the places they go? Can you customize it?
Hello! Yes of course, so we found a ‘boat travel’ hut which was the last building on the road before arriving at the beach. However, there are loads of these scattered along the main roads of Krabi. We didn’t haggle as we felt the price was actually very reasonable. Be sure to ask for a private boat as this is cheaper if there is 2 or more of you and it’s a lot nicer. We didn’t personalise our itinerary, we picked from 4 or 5 different trips they were offering. We picked the ‘4 island boat trip’ which I would definitely recommend and that included gorgeous islands like Railey. There were lots to pick from like phi phi islands etc. But you could probably ask and I’m sure they would happily do the islands you want. The joys of a private long tail boat was we got to decide how long we wanted on each island as opposed to waiting for others!
how much did it cost you to get that boat
It cost us around £50 for the private boat for the day trip. This price was fixed and was the same even if you have more people.

All the beaches you see in this video were visited in a one day boat trip. We think 4 days would be enough in Krabi, but it would also be a nice place to visit for longer if you want a relaxing holiday.

$190 per person for 3 day, 2 night cruise. Was sold as 4* cruise. As we said in video, you can get better price if you book in hotel/travel agent in Hanoi rather than booking online.

Hanoi during the Second Indo-China War was not a tourist city. Few visitors that did were usually from Warsaw Pact countries. They described Hanoi as a drab, dreary war-time city with few inhabitants about and no one smiling or happy. The Vietnamese since then have made the most of the past 48 years of peace to revive Vietnamese civilization, albeit under a communist regime. What made the difference was when the ruling communist leadership became confident over the independence and safety of Vietnam. While retaining full domestic political control, the communist Vietnamese government began re-adopting some capitalism and mercantile of their ancestors. The Red Chinese re-embraced much capitalism beginning in the late 1980s to become an economic powerhouse in the second decade of the 21st century. This video shows how Hanoi has come back to life after seventy years existing in a stifling strict communist cocoon that prevented any kind of private free trade. Just see for yourself, how much Saigon, now Ho Chi Minh City, has sprung far back up from the ashes of 1975 defeat to become a lively Paris of Southeast Asia. The Vietnamese put the war behind them and looked only forward into the present and future. This differed from the former southern states of the defunct, defeated Confederacy of the American Civil War. The southerners spent the last 150 years looking back at their defeat with dour sullenness. Only recently has that deeply ingrained animus begin to change. They can take a lesson from the Vietnamese. American tourists to Vietnam speak highly of the friendliness and genuine smiles of the welcoming Vietnamese People. There is no resentment or talk of the long past Vietnam War, known to them as, The Amercan War. Western tourists who visit Vietnam are always glad they made the tour.
