Is Success a Burden? The Price Black Women Pay to Rise
Let me preface my comment by saying I know all white people are not racist. This comment is for racist white people in corporate America. They have PERVERTED minds and they are silly and immature. I work with a white woman who is in her darn sixties and she always asks me about my hair and she wants to ask if it’s real but she doesn’t have the guts. She has made other subtle put downs but she is afraid of me because she cowers at me sometimes as well. She is extremely racist but in a stupid way. Now she is trying to label me as unapproachable because she made a statement that I put my headphones on when she’s around. I told her I always wear my headphones ( I gaslight her butt right back because I do wear my headphones but I especially wear them around her because she is a chatterbox and her conversations are exhausting because she is fake). She wfh so when she comes into the office she thinks I’m supposed to be her entertainment. She can give input on my performance reviews which is the ONLY reason I bite my tongue. I’m looking for another job because the whole place is a perverted racist swamp.
Dr. Jessamy is a fascinating and bold Caribbean woman. I'm watching this in 2025 with great interest after following her thoughts and pursuits via LinkedIn.
She absolutely is. Glad you enjoyed our interview
Even the title alone is a message!
Thanks
Hey I’m starting your video right now now. I think it’s great you made this. I remember in 2018, the CEO of the Company I was at said that women often not invited to networking events after work because of our obligations at home. I have no kids. No family obligations. Still that kind of mentality is why it is viewed as okay to exclude us. I’m 36 and an attorney. The only question I get is about my kids. It’s the first thing I’m asked at work, in the doctors office (even chiropractor), and in general. I get paid significantly less than i should and I have to fight my way up.
Why aren’t professional or executive black or African American men not mentoring professional blk women?
This is such a great conversation. I hope that a lot of women see this video because no matter the race, there are some shared experiences here.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the conversation
I truly enjoyed this episode, it really reasonated with me especially since I’m on this journey right now. Perfection is overrated! Practice self compassion! Let go of perfection! Such profound words but so little of us know how to do it😊🙏🏾
Brilliant and empowering message
I really needed this. Thank you❤
You're so welcome!
This was really inspiring and informative! Thank you❤
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it

Ofc beautiful so proud u too
This woman can 😊
I know that I am not the intended audience, but I am currently writing a research paper that reflects how quiet quitting is being discussed in the media, with a focus on how members of minority communities are left out of the discussion. Thank you for sharing your insight, experience and wisdom on the inequity in the workplace while empowering women of color to take charge and reject the inequality that is the status quo. I agree that quiet quitting is not an option as well as not the solution, thank you again.
I wish I had known this at least eight years ago. I had that experience. A lot more people need to hear this as you can become complacent in "permanent" jobs. And when you are out, you find yourself with debts to pay, and even if you start a business, it takes time to build a clientele whilst the bills are there.
Happy birthday, Janice! 🎉❤🎉
I’m tuned in friend. Happy Birthday!! 🎁🎉🎈

Very good video and presentation!
Thank you Melissa, are there any other topics you'd like to hear about?
Thank you for having me. It was my pleasure sharing this info
I loved the authenticity of this conversation. Pauline you are right, its a pivotal moment when someone recognizes their worth and accepts the freedom that comes with the realization. They decide who they'd want to work with, whether its professional or personal aspects of life. Great discussion.
Thank you for hosting the discussion.
What an amazing interview. I loved the soul-searching questions and appreciated Dr. Brown's vulnerability. Such a stalwart who has lived so much life in her near 30 years. From this interview I've learned that when you put yourself out there and are at the forefront of living life in all its fullness, it can and will be hard, but that's what life is for. Such a purpose filled life. Loved it.
So glad you enjoyed the interview.
Love this whole interview! Beautiful!
Thank you, Dr. Brown was great
FLOWLESSSSS !!!!!!! Love her !!!!!!
🙌❤ truly amazed by Dr. Brown, inspiration for all youth. Great individual 🙌👊
This is such great advice, Janice! We really are told (by the media/society) from a young age that if it's not going to be perfect, we shouldn't even attempt it. It's only now that I feel confident enough to create and produce my own content (even though it may not be perfect in my eyes). I was only able to come to that conclusion once I realised that no matter how it comes out, someone out there will be able to connect with, appreciate and see the value in my (imperfect) work.
The book "30 Days to Stop Being a Shitty Boss" by Harper Daniels is a fun resource.
This is the wonderful idea to be your own boss. The best idea, that's i always wanted. Thanks for video.
