Had two of these for years in my large tropical freshwater tank. Some people say they need brackish but mine did great. My tank had a fine sand and they would hide in the sand. They would eat tubifex worms and blood worms and brine shrimp. I also had two small hydropower bumble bee goby in there. People swore up and down those HAD to he brackish. Nope. Mine were healthy and bright and active and grew fat. They were big eaters for tiny fish. Had them for years. All my fish in that tank I sold about 8 years ago. Had a bunch of really cool strange fish. Even had a pigmy frog and a mini African puffer. The puffer was tiny and they stayed tiny. All my fish lived years. At least 4 plus and were alive and healthy when I sold the tank. People swear some of them needed some salt. Mine grew, were relaxed but active no stress, ate very well and very very bright and overall healthy. But I was a OCD nut with my fish. I had the tank cycled so well with its own eco system the fluval filter could go out and still the tank would stay crystal clear. Had colonies of good bacteria that I cultivated over time and well placed healthy real plants and some freshwater clams and shrimp. I never fed them frozen or dead or processed food. Only live food. Tubifex worms, blood worms and brine shrimp. And had their feeding on a very good schedule. Overfeed can make water have to much waste at once. When feeding live food you don't feed every day. And there would be some tubifex worms here and there that would survive between feedings and the fish would find them in the sand. My frog ate the tubifex worms as well and loved them. I miss that tank so bad...

I have mine in brackish, he's really small right now, but as he gets older I'm likely to add an Archer and a Mudskipper.

The first part of this storm is from 2001 and the other is from 2005......it was pretty cool! Hoping for a big one this year, though last nights lightning was not bad. :)

Sorry for the dealy - they are fed frozen bloodworm at night.

No bigger than app 2 inches at full size (in our experience). I do believe they grow to the size limits of the tank. In the wild they grow much bigger. Hope that helps!

Good luck with your new tank! We love the CRS. Since this video was made we have decided we are going to completely strip down the tank and start fresh. We have a few CRS doing well in another tank though.

how many shrimp did you start with and how many do you have now? I am starting CRS in a week cant wait!

Yes they are fine with gravel as long as the gravel is small so they can graze on it. Hope that helps!

@archiepops I'm so excited. I just saw two shrimplets on the side of the tank glass today. I was wondering if they'd ever come out. Took them four days.

Hi - I just realised I replied thinking you had commented on our flounder video, sorry :) The shrimp babies are very tiny when born (app 2mm) but grow fairly quickly. The young shrimplets live happily with the adults too!

They eat their own shrimp food (it comes with the nano cube but any reputable local aquarium shop will sell them). A tub lasts for months. They also love lettuce and potato :)

How small are the babies when they are first born?

@XxBboyAyehxX They can do in the wild but not in captivity.

These are FRESHWATER flounders i.e they are not the brackish type. Therefore they happily cohabit with the other tropical fish. I wouldn't want to say if you intend on keeping brackish ones.

@vuthoai Hi there many thanks for your comment :) I'm unsure of the gallons but it is the large 'Nano Cube' tank specifically for freshwater shrimp. I really try to keep on top of cleaning them out as they love the clean water. The filter is just the internal one supplied, no CO2. Hope that helps :)
