Superb production quality
Great video, im still trying to get my head around doing all this at a wedding. Minefield.
@@Benboothfilms yeah, tricky to do at an event, especially a wedding
How do you get up to 48 channels IN on an SQ5? Would that only be achievable with a stage box? Also, if you had a stage box would those inputs be added on top of the inputs on the back of the console?
@@jscjazz the SQ5 can take inputs from the console, a stage box, USB and an expansion card (I have Dante on mine) you can mix any of these sources and yes they do all just add together.
Great video Sir. Can I use this with CQ18T? Your response will be appreciated Sir.
@@ApostleGavinMachogo hey, no the CQ consoles don’t work with a digital stage box
Is it possible to send a DCA to other mixes and not only Main LR
@@khanyaphaswana9531 no, a DCA doesn’t send audio it only controls audio faders as a group in the main LR mix.
@@PluggedinAV thanks 👍
I’ve used X32 for 10years. This is a very good introduction for those moving across or coming to sound for the first time, worth watching a couple of times. Highly recommended.

Hello There, can you do a video on naming channels and colours coding them? Thanks for your hard work.
@@princeakorsah4066 sure
Great discussion.
Been there done that. What I hate when there is a faux pas, they draw attention to it by making some comment rather than just carrying on as if nothing really happened. “Aah I’m back, you can hear me” (because the sound engineer stuffed up).
Awesome break down. Thanks for making the use of compression so understandable.
@@eddieoke07003 no problem 👍🏻
Very helpful
We love to use them for DJs on festivals. Stereo Out into 2 channels. 1 channel for the Cue/Monitor Out from the Pioneer Desk itself and one with reversed adapter as output for the onstage monitor.
Perfect
Can these be used with an analog mixer to send signal direct to a ethernet port on my Mac/Logic Pro?
No, it doesn’t digitise the signal. You will still need something to convert the signal from analogue to digital
@@PluggedinAV I thought the whole point of it(other than a convenient and cheap way to run audio in live production) was that the signal is created from analog and digitized to ethernet signal? So one need an interface that can receive the ethernet signal and 'reconvert it to audio so it can be fed to the computer? Like,,, a super expensive RME interface or similar that cost $1500 and more ? great savings,,,,
@@mark-ze4en not these ones. It’s analogue only.
I have been a live sound engineer for 15 years and I have never believed into an "average" level, especially when it comes to a singer. Levels from a singer can be dramatically dinamyc at times and I always trusted my ears instead of a meete. Plus using 45db of gain in a live music scenario it will only gives you troubles, especially if you are mixing monitors from front of house. I'd rather have a quiter gain instead of feedbacks. It's a good video, but to me it's very theorical and not very practical.

By looking at the numbers, your HD video got more views compared to your 4k video.
Yes, you're right - there's no visible difference between your 4k and HD videos.
Hi, we recently installed an SQ5 in our Church. I’ve been doing sound tech for a while here and there. When the guys came in to install the mixer I asked if we should turn down the level of the sends to the front of house to allow for what you’re talk about in this video but they said no. This means my signal for most things is quite low but they’re loud as. What should I do?
Where does your signal go after the mixer? In an ideal world it should go from the console into a speaker processor and then into the amps. If that’s the signal path I would turn the signal down in the processor. If you don’t have that then you should turn the master down or use a matrix
@@PluggedinAV It goes from the mixer to the amps, we’re using the graphic EQ/delays on the SQ for our processing
@@zacparnell4019 ok, in which case I would pull the master back. Or better still use a matrix to output to your amps and pull that back a bit
TLDR: It is DEFINITELY worth it to render 1080 footage in 4K and upload in 4K. The playback is much higher quality with the 4K setting on, regardless of screen resolution. Full explanation: I have a 1080 monitor. I opened both videos in separate tabs, selected 1080p for both, paused the video at the start, skipped to 1:00 using the arrow keys, and then switched between tabs using ctrl + tab number to compare. The difference when both are in 1080p is small, but noticeable. The details of the 4K version are slightly sharper, such as the North Face logo, shirt color seams, beard hair, and some other skin features. However, the 4K version actually has some potentially undesirable smoothness in 1080p, such as the large areas of shirt color or the couch cushions, where it can look a bit blurrier. I think it likely looks nicer in motion though. The REAL difference is when you play the 4K version in 4K and the 1080 version in 1080. There is absolutely no contest. The 4K version is leagues better than the 1080 version. Every single detail in the video is sharper, the colors are richer and less blurry, and all textures are more clear. Easy comparison points are the eyes, beard, fingers, couch cushions, North Face Logo, and t-shirt. The background is relatively equal. For this secondary comparison alone, it is absolutely worth it to render a 1080 video in 4K and upload it as such. I also just did some localized testing, and I found that in Premiere Pro at least, rendering a 1080 sequence in 4K got me BETTER quality results than putting 1080 footage in a 4K sequence and rendering in 4K. This was true regardless of if I used set to frame size or scale to frame size in the 4K sequence. I also found that Hardware encoding provided better results than software encoding, at least with the H.265 encoder. These comparisons were done with bitrate and all other settings the same and by screenshotting full screen images from the same time in each render and zooming in with a photo editing program to compare fine details and textures. Just thought I'd share. Thanks for the comparison videos!

Thumbs up! Is this 12dB gain settings is also good for vocal recordings in Pro Tools? Thanks
1 request sir.. can u please make a proper video describing the actual difference between a GAIN & TRIM on a digital mixer.. please... Will be waiting. Thanx a tonn🌹🌹😇🥂🙏
Basically gain is adjusting the pre amp to give you correct level into your console. Trim is a control that doesn’t control the pre amp and allows you to adjust level. Normally used to pull down a line level source that’s too hot into the console
Whooooo... Great video indeed... Have seen many videos related to compressor.. bt this one is the best i should say.. thank u sooo very much for the video sir... Wil be eagerly waiting for some more videos like these.. thnx a lottt..
No problem 👍🏻
Thank you very much for the useful tips especially those about the time management. Keep up wit those.
Can I use this for a DiGiCo S21? And, if not, wich 8 inputs audio rack can use for this mixer?
No, this wouldn’t work with Digico. Digico normally uses Madi so you will need a madi stage box. I don’t know if any 8input madi stage boxes but you could search online
I think you're wrong about the cable shielding. There can't be any interference in the XLR signal; the interference is canceled out in the sum of the signals. In fact, a shielded cable is necessary because it uses it as ground. If it's not shielded, only 3 pairs can be used; one will be used as GND.
Thank you so much sir for your packaged information.
No problem
Can u explain how to control the amount of dry signal when I insert a reverb to a group ? U mentioned about the FX send but it doesn’t mean I still get my dry signal right? What about using Fx bus and what’s then send fader doing? Is it just acting like a master level for all signals that are sent to the Fx bus, basically like a DCA? Thanks 🙏🏻
Hey, I’m not sure I fully follow your comment but when you insert an effect you have a dry/wet control inside that effect unit. The ‘send’ fader controls the master send level to the effect unit.
Thank u 🙏🏻
the video is good but the Live training banner is kind off hiding some parts when the camera is changed. it would have been better if it was smaller or at all removed and just add a small badge to the top right something like that.
Thanks. I do have loads more videos on this mixer so you could try one of those
I like this thingy so much that now I have two of them. I have other recorders as well, and they are all amazing. But it is my go-to in most sitiatuations when I need a lav or want to have a remote microphone. Super handy.
It’s definitely a hand bit of kit
Currently headed to a resort as a breakout floater. Operating a Roland XS84H and this mixer. Thank you so much for the run down 😭 y’all wish me luck lol
Sounds fun, enjoy
Good video. When I adjust gain to as high as 40, this induces feedback. But if I need that gain to achieve the right signal strength, what else could I do to get the level I need?
Sounds like something else in your system is turned up too high, or your speakers are in the wrong place. Try turning your amps down or moving your speakers further away from your stage
It’s super clear but i lose you once you talk about when to use which. I assumed that changing your mix for main L/R bus doesn’t influence any of your aux busses. But why would setting an input channel to post fader mean that changing your main L/R bus mix would also change any of the other busses?
Post fade literally means post (after) the fader. That means every time you change a fader position that change will be reflected on your post fade bus mix
Excellent video tutorial. I am learning a lot from you. Thanks a bunch. This mixer is very amazing, for it is highly customizable. I know that most of your tutorials applies to live events, however I can still relate to them even though I only use my SQ-5 in my recording studio.
Great, glad they help 🙏🏻
can you do a video on how to use the compressor as a limiter and how to add a second compression on to the matrix if that is possible.
Sure
The extra FX Returns are for if you want more than 4 FX Units as you can setup an AUX to be and FX Send. Just depends on how many Busses and Axes you need for your show. The use case would be if you did a FOH/ Monitor split system where you don't need to use your Auxes for wedges or IEMs at FOH as you have a dedicated monitor console to do all of that. So you could setup a layout where you can run 8 FX Send & Returns & 8 Sub groups if you want if the console is only doing FOH only.
Thanks
Hey Andy! How do i assign the aux to be an FX send?? Thanks
HOW DO I DO THIS???
@@pogpogger4381 ok so you go to your FX Return Faders & hit select you then assign and FX unit that you like to that return. you then hit the back panel button to the right of your touch screen. It will say that it's unassigned. Press that button & select the Mix/Return then it will show to columns. Scroll through the first one and find Aux then go to the 2nd column and pick which Aux you want to use as your extra FX Send. Done
@@andygriffiths7230 hey thanks for that
I am now in another church setting and bought a different brand of them via Amazon this week. I have opened them up and they use XLR connectors soldered directly onto the PCB. This makes swapping the connectors over much more difficult as the holes on the Female connector sit in a different location than the Male connector. So my advice is, if you are planning on doing a modification to these to switch one or more end points, go for the SSSnake ones, as otherwise you may find your can't do it easily if at all. I am sure the units I bought are fine if you just want a drop snake you don't want to mod. The ones I bought are these: Copkim 2 Pack 4 Channel 3 Pin Multi Network XLR Cable.
Thanks for the heads up
