Thanks for the info Rick I be in feb 2025 there
@@kemokemolino6532 Hope you have a wonderful time.
Did you see the northern lights? Planning to visit this month.
@@joant8636 sorry, no.
Only 2 days til Barb is home.
That looks great! It looks so much bigger!
Thanks! Going to take a day off before finishing the patio.
How peaceful! And a beautiful day!
Beautiful location 👍🏻🤗
Neat video dad! You did a great job editing too! Thank you for sharing 😊❤️
Thank you this was so helpful. I could hardly ever get my rx1r to focus properly when multiple things where on the shot.
he is overtipping by far and must be rich. he i s out of touch with the realities of cuba, to tip more than one dollar is uncallled for, the USD is trading 300 to 350 cuban pesos in 2024. this man is very outdated. it is not my knowledge that they trade the USD to Canadian at a par. maybe the people at these all inclusive resorts may trade the can to the usd at par but the cubans are then losing when they have to buy product s in the foreign currency stores. this man is not au current. rm
I can only relate the experience I had at the resorts in Cuba. Maybe you know something different than me, and that's fine. As a tourist, I had limited time to explore, but everywhere I went, the Canadian dollar was taken at par with the US dollar.
The first time I went to Cuba 20 years ago...Havana Club was 9ne dollar a bottle.
Thanks for the info Rick. I'm surprising my husband with a trip to Cuba for Christmas and the currency exchange information is driving me nuts, as everything I've found so far says bring euros or USD. I'm relieved I can use CDN.
Wow, what a surprise! Yes, CDN is accepted, but just bills...No coins! And a few $1. US bills would be good for tips as our smallest bills are fives. Get some pesos at the hotel lobby by exchanging some CND bills for shopping and extras. Don't need to get more than 50 or 100 at a time because you don't want to be leaving with any pesos. Have a great time! P.s. where are you staying?
What a lovely afternoon!
How do you visit NFL if you don't have a lot of $, don't have a 🚗, and don't drive?
Don't know. We rented a car to travel around, but rentals were scarce. We were benefited with air miles from family to fly across the country to land in St. John's, otherwise, expensive, yes.
As a Canadian tourist making my 68th trip to Cuba over 30 years this last January/February and March I stayed at the Roc Barlovento and exchanged money with a waiter or the man hosting the Bingo game each day and got 100 pesos for $1.00. Some folks tip with coins which I then helped the waiters etc. by exchanging them for $$$$...It's not necessary to use USA $ if you are Canadian. A fun thing to experience from the hotel is to ride the orange street train for 100 pesos per person round 1 1/2 hour trip to the end of the peninsula....
My experience also!
Here in The Philippines 🇵🇭 we used Peso as our Stronger Currency and we are Union of 7 Countries used Peso Currency Unit.
Does Cuban Peso used this ₱ sign as Peso?
So looneys and Toonies? No
Right, don't bring coins as they are not useful for Cubans. Use bills, but since the smallest Canadian bills are $5.00, get some american $1 bills for tips.
@@ricklavoie thanks 🙏

Please help me! You mentionned in your video that 100 CUP worth 1 Canadian Dollar. As of today, on the change market (XE), 100 CUP value is $5.73 Canadian Dollars. I'm lost which one is the real one?
It all depends on where you change your dollars...hotel is better than bank or airport.
What a surprise! I really enjoyed it!
Thanks! So good to hear you enjoyed it. We enjoyed our time with you!
And we loved you coming.
Did my all inclusive trip. 1. I would recommend 1$ us bills compared to loonies and toonies. 2. You can tip the same 1$ bills for room cleaning, bar counter and at the food court Area. 3. Outside the resort everyone is keen on your money 4. Enjoy the trip
We're leaving tomorrow for Cuba from Canada. I exchanged some money into american. Will I have any issues? Would we be better off with canadian money? I'm getting different answers from everyone. It's annoying to figure out. We're on a resort but we will be going into the town for restaurants and shows.

I am from USA when I get great service I tip $2-$5 in USA n I would do the same there,& anywhere when I was younger I used tip $5-$10. I did used to hang around a Puerto Rican friend he tip $20 dollars if would not care n never learn a lesson, this guy was getting paid $10 an HR he had worked at restaurants ,hotels , bars , even the barber,
That's great.
Great slide show. Thanks
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Going to cuba for the first time ever in April and looking forward to it. Videos like this really helps people like me so keep making them . But first I'm off to Mexico in 5 days for the first time. Take care
Hope you have a great time in Cuba, and let me know how you liked Mexico, as I've never been.
How long ago where you there I was looking online they say the exchange is about 1can to 19cup . You say in Cuba the bank are giving 80cup to 1 can ?
Don't know what info you got, but we were there Dec. 2022, and we got 5000 cup for $50.00 Canadian. You figure it out.
Great video...can I ask if hotels exchange money? If so do they offer a very good rate?
Yes, hotels usually exchange money, and it is convenient, but for me I had good luck with the tour guide and restaurant staff. Look for 1 to 100 rate or close to it. Like $1.cad to 100 pesos, while banks might give just 80. This time, I didn't need to go through the hotel reception. My advice is exchange just $50.cad to begin with. Also handy is bringing small Canadian bills for tips, they love it. Don't bring toonies nor loonies!! No good to them!
@@ricklavoie You're the best...appreciate the advice!
So what was the exchange rate on streets?
Don't get money on the street.
@@ricklavoie Why?
@@desmomotodesmomoto2033 like I said in the video, there's a chance of picking up counterfeit money.
Any recommendations on where to get Cuban cigars and souveniers
Probably the best place to get cigars is from a cigar factory if that is part of a tour. A store that has cigars and rum is also good. Just avoid anybody on the street that approaches you as those cigars would be confiscated at the customs, so I was told. As for souvenirs...help anyone you can if you like their stuff. Enjoy!
@@ricklavoie So if we buy the cigars from the factory , can we get some into Canada ?
@@chetu19 If you are 18 years of age or over, you are allowed to bring in all of the following amounts of tobacco into Canada duty- and taxes-free within your personal exemption: 200 cigarettes 50 cigars, and you must declare at customs, see Travel.gc.ca for more.
it depends how much money you want to spend for the quality of cigars ? you must know that you have hight quality of cigars (like wine ) so quite expensive but also cigars for workers in Cuba made differently less expensive that you can find in a shop for Cuban peoples .I did that in each travel to Cuba and to smoke during my sejour in Cuba ! Never buy any cigars from someone who are selling in the street !!! A mes amis Canadiens . André
I just back from there and they did not give us a thing and we gave 5 dollars every day and gift where did you then.
We stayed at the Roc-Barlovento. Very good service, hope that answers your question.
Thank you Rick for posting this video. Did you encounter any issues converting Canadian currency, was it always accepted? The information online suggests that the Euro is the better currency to convert to Cuban pesos. Would there be any advantages buying Euros with Cad before leaving Canada? Maybe I'm just over thinking this. lol
Hi Bob, First, Canadian currency is like gold. Don't know about Euros. Since this was a trip to Cuba after 2 years, and everything changed, I did my usual...just brought qty.10 Fifty dollar bills to save space. We ended up bringing back over a $100 Canadian back. There's nowhere to spend. The hotel booked tours take Visa, and so do most of the stores in the village. In fact, the stores didn't take pesos! On the initial coach trip from the airport, the guide said the banks give poor exchange rate of like 80% value, but he offered 100% on the bus, so I took out my first $50 and he gave me 5,000 pesos! not bad. He advised not to deal on the street because of counterfeit bills. At the resort, a waiter offered over 100% exchange at my table. All in all, I only exchanged 4 of my $50 bills. Mostly used for tips, and cola (when they had it)in the resort store. So, if you take Euros, you'll have to change them back anyway when you come home. Hope this helps, and Cuba is still Fun! ...Rick
Thank you Rick., this is really helpful. I wasn't all that keen on exchanging cad for Euros. The last time we were in Cuba, they had the cup and cuc - that was confusing also. We'll be at an all inclusive resort close to Cienfuegos but some pesos will come in handy when we visit the city. Yes, Cuba is a great place and the Cubans are exceptionally friendly. We are looking forward to what this great island has to offer. Thanks again, Bob
The thing is that Cuban money is not worth much to the hosts either. I was getting 150/1 last year. Came home with a brick of it.
Too bad you got stuck with all that useless paper. I managed to spend it all, and leave 1000 pesos ($10 can. Worth) with the chambermaid and a couple hundred with the bus driver for the ride back to the airport. The moral here is not exchange a lot of cash at any one time. Hope you had a good vacation in the sun, though. Thanks, Rick.
Thanks for this information!!
Great! Hope it helps you, and thanks for the comment.
