This is an excellent lecture on Matthew Henry. Thank you for uploading it. However, I think Needham is incorrect to say that Henry believed in universal atonement: Commentary on Isaiah 53:10-12: “There are many whom Christ justifies, not all (multitudes perish in their sins), yet many, even as many as he gave his life a ransom for, as many as the Lord our God shall call.” Commentary on Hebrews 9:28: “He must be once offered, to bear the sins of many, of all the Father had given to him, of all who should believe in his name. He was not offered for any sin of his own; he was wounded for our transgressions. God laid on him the iniquity of all his people; and these are many, though not so many as the rest of mankind.” Commentary on 1 Peter 2:24: “Jesus Christ bore the sins of all his people, and expiated them by his death upon the cross. Secondly, No man can depend safely upon Christ, as having borne his sin and expiated his guilt, till he dies unto sin and lives unto righteousness.”

Would to God we had more recordings of such wonderful men as Dr. Hendriksen. A gone by era of Christian scholarship and a kind of man of God we will never see again. Gentlemen of this class of grace, charm and humble character are few and far between today. In an age of self aggrandizment and men clamoring for popularity and selfish influence it is refreshing to pleasantly muse about those who came before and whose faith we can not only admire but emulate as well.

Such an eye opener! I'm grateful for this knowledge on emerging theologies specifically the neo-orthodoxy of Karl Barth.

Jeff, I too was a bit of a rock star in the 80s, though never signed to a label, toured the Midwest circuit extensively and indulged in all that goes with that business. By the grace of our Lord, I managed to survive. The Lord was dealing with me all along as well as protecting me from complete destruction. Such great recording happened over the decades, including your own. What do you recommend when it comes to our libraries. Do we just destroy them or is the occasional listen to Eagles, Kenny Logins, Poco, and Leroux acceptable or should we ignore these sounds all together. Thank you and God Bless you and your work.
