Fishing for Tautog in New Jersey - Part II of our Tog Fishing Series
Переглядів 2778 місяців тому
We hope you enjoy this compilation of clips from one of the bridges we fished from in New Jersey this summer. Any of the bridges along the coast can be great spots to catch some tog. The benefit of being up on a bridge is that you can just drop your line straight down and not have to reel back in over the rocky bottom, which can easily lead to snags and lost gear. When you drop it straight down...

When your day of Fishing doesn't go as planned

We had the most beautiful Summer day to be out fishing last weekend. So we hit up a local spot, but unfortunately the fish were not feeling it. Ever have those days when you just keep moving from spot to spot, but no bites? We were getting tiny little bass and sunnies, but nothing great. However, we enjoyed being by the water on a gorgeous day, nonetheless! And...he was able to real in a nice c...

What a great day in AC! We started our day leaving the house at 3:30 am to get to the shore around 6:00 am. Our first stop was One Stop Bait & Tackle. He had some great suggestions as to where to fish and what’s been biting. From there, we headed to the pier at Caspian Ave. and worked our way down towards the T Jetty as the day progressed. We ended up catching more than 2 dozen fluke and limiti...

Quick tip if you don't know already. If your using braid, (which i would suggest for less stretch and more sensitivity), just add about 3 feet of a monofilament leader at the end of it for your hook and sinker. That way when you get snagged in the rocks you'll only break the leader line and save your braid. That braid won't brake easily! Good luck!

Sweetheart, just to let you know, the ice bath is great, but you must put a lot of salt in it. Never put your fish in freshwater ever.

We fished that pier Sunday (June 20, 2024). We caught a couple of fluke, but they were only 14-15 inches. Fun day though. That pier is a hidden treasure.

As a former Eastern Long Islander, fluke was my target fish for summer fishing. I caught many doormats in my days out there. The way I fileted fluke was to do the diagonal cut and slip the knife down the spine from there. You can feel with the tip of the knife the vertebrae. So run the whole knife down the center and make your cut to the edge of the fish. The same with the other side. This gives you two larger filets which I used to stuff with a nice crabmeat stuffing and a light coat of breadcrumbs to bake. 😊
