How To Write Like Volumes, Northlane, Erra, periphery…
In this video I walk through writing an entire song, from zero, start to finish. Similar sounds of inspiration include bands like Volumes, Northlane, Erra and Periphery. We go through the different elements from live guitar and bass to bar instruments like drums and synthesizers including Serum and Kontakt.

@@TermofDeath I’ll take the fact that you made that connection as a win. I’ve got build videos up where I replaced all the frets on my 7 with stainless and he’s literally playing on the tv in the background and no one caught it. Not sure if I put it on UA-cam though.

You can transpose directly in Studio One without spending CPU/RAM resources on running VST plugins. Just select your audio track, press F4 and look to the bottom of the inspector where you can pull a bar up. It reveals more settings - also "Transpose". Nice vid! Great to see someone else using S1!

@@KeinBierVorVierAlter so Studio One and i recognize Kontakt. Serum is that a plugin or separate software? Anything else? I only ask as I'm trying to learn a few different ones at the moment.

Love seeing all these channels inspired by Thick Riff Thursday. I am learning how to play metal/djent after playing only acoustic for 15 years. I hope you continue to make these videos as it’s super helpful learning different people’s workflows inside a DAW and of course the sick riffs .

Good job, man! This track has great potential. The riffs are absolutely on point. Your ambient part is also really well done, but it works insanely well with the "main" breakdown (the one from your meltdown video). Because of that, I think you don’t need to use it throughout the entire track - let it really hit with the breakdown. A perfect structure here could be to start the track with the ambient element and some SFX and buildup, transition into the heavy riffs, take a pause, and then let everything hit together. Just my two cents. Good luck!

@@ClavMada hell yeah! I spent way too much time trying to get the guitars to sound right. I probably have some hearing loss after switching between so many monitors, headphones, and sound systems. Idk why I felt so adamant to make it sound super close to the original, it’s never good to strive for a sonic copy. It’ll drive you mad. And has to me before. I have to remind myself sometimes, finished is better than perfect. A perfect mix is nothing to you if you never share it. But a mix is never truly “finished”.
