8 Days Alone in the Wild
Follow me on this 8-day solo spring canoe trip through the Canadian wilderness. This trip begins and ends on Magnetawan Lake in Algonquin Provincial Park, and takes me deep into the backcountry through spectacular lakes and rivers. I fish for brook trout, encounter wildlife, and camp at many beautiful sites along the way.

WILD WEATHER on 5-Day Solo Spring Camping Trip! -8ºC
Переглядів 84 тис.Місяць тому
This 5-day spring solo canoe trip in Algonquin Park had some pretty wild weather! I hope you enjoy coming along. I had some new equipment on this trip, including a new Esquif Prospecteur 15 canoe. At 60 lbs, it's double the weight of my Swift Prospector 14' - but it allows me to carry a lot more gear, and it's made out of a very durable T-Formex layup. My route was: Tim River Access, Tim Lake, ...

This trip was also the maiden voyage of my Swift Prospector 14’ solo canoe. It performed extremely well, and was a pleas...

I fell though the ice winter camping alone… -15ºC

This was a late-February solo winter camping trip in Ontario, Canada. The region had just gone through a deep-freeze for several days. The previous night's temperatures had dipped down to around -30ºC. Despite this, I tried to remain cautious. Before heading out I surveyed topographic and satellite maps of the area to help identify the locations of the bodies of water I would come across. What ...
Winter Camping Alone near WOLVES! -10ºC

This was one of the most incredible nights I have ever spent camping in the wild. It started off as a warmer-than-usual February day for this part of Ontario, Canada. The temperatures were set to dip back down to around -10℃ overnight, and I had approximately 4kms to cover to reach my intended camping location. I set off midday in the warm sun, quickly shedding layers of clothing to avoid getti...

Join me on this 5-day fall solo canoe trip to reach the highest lakes in Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. I faced freezing temperatures, countless beaver dams, and low water levels along the way. Despite these challenges, this is one of my most memorable adventures as the landscapes, wildlife, and fall colours left me in awe. I hope you enjoy coming along with me on this adventure. Join me on this 6-day solo canoe camping trip in early-September through the beautiful wilderness of Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. In this trip I travel almost 100km across stunning lakes, beautiful rivers, and some difficult portages. I faced some challenges including having to battle strong headwinds on the largest lake in the park, but it was all worth the effort as I was able to camp a...

This is the first canoe trip I ever documented by video. My goal was simply to better capture this adventure for myself, as in the past I had only taken pictures during my wilderness adventures. A year later, I decided to upload this video to UA-cam. The filming and editing leave a lot to be desired but the adventure was a fun one! Great trip so peaceful. What no stopping for fast food at the end? lol
I'm just into watching this, but I can see, at 7:17 in, why you do what you do. The shadows and fading light, the lapping sounds of the water from your oar, the sounds of the bird calls as they settle in for the night - all of it spells Peace. ❤
You summed it up very well. It’s in those moments that I feel the most at peace.
The white throated sparrows are in full voice!
Great inspiration! Off on a 4 day solo trip to the east side of the park tomorrow.
Awesome! But you should probably get some sleep rather than watch this video lol. Hope you have a blast!
@@kevinthewild Haha thanks! Yes will have to watch the rest when I'm back.
Yes been waiting for a new video. I camp vicariously through you!
It was a bit of a late upload tonight, but I’m glad to hear that! Cheers Jay!
That bacon sandwich looks good! I may have to use that menu item on my next trip! Some jalapeños would be good on that!
Jalapeños would definitely go well with that sandwich. I might try that next time too 😄
YES!!
Nice trip beautiful sunsets and for not seeing anyone for 4 days what a plus!
Yeah it definitely was a great trip!
Kevin, I realized I didn't finish watching this video from when it first came out. I was wondering if you've had a chance to use your tent a few more times. I was looking at slightly larger tent than my Big Agnes with a couple inches more headroom. I almost bought this tent ( it was on sale too!) but a few reviews mentioned water running down the fly when opened and into the tent during heavy rains. Any thoughts or experience with this? I enjoy your videos. Finished this one - looked like a dilly of a trip! Thanks for taking us along!
I have used the tent on another trip, but I haven't had to deal with torrential downpours with it yet. But I know what video you are referring to. Either way, Im normally quick to enter and exit my tent when it's raining so I don't think it will be much of an issue for me. MEC has incredible sales on their gear so yes you can get this at a bargain. Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@kevinthewild Thanks, I often have my Aquaquest tarp set up covering the tent and giving me a good area to sit under and cook if raining so that would solve an issue like that too. I'll give it further thought. Safe travels
Nice video and nature 😊😊😊
Thank you!
Tough conditions at those temps, love the video
Great vids Kev!
Thank you!
You sound like Joe Robinet. Dang 😮
I like Joe
check for widow makers bro ?
Always
rain day ?
yeah i love the fire so i would set up a tarp near it and sleep on the ground. on top of fir boughs
Great. Incredible.
Thank you.
I noticed you didnt do any fishing that could help you with your food intake. Thanks for sharing by the way your not worried about bears or wolves?
These were all trout lakes, and the season was still closed at the time. For bears, I store my food safely at night, and I bring bear spray in addition to my knife.
I'm only three minutes into your video; nice proper J stroke and thanks for not using a kayak paddle.
I spoke too soon.
Please enable subtitles for this video. I want to watch relaxing videos and learn English at the same time. Thank you very much
Hey! What equipment do you use for shooting your stuff? The intro looked great and I'm sure I can easily capture stuff like that with my sony a7r4 + a tripod. Will definitely use it as an inspiration for bushcraft series that I'm filming in Spain
You definitely can! This was filmed on an A7C.
I was in awe of the night sky, and excited to hear the wolves, and also full of nerves when it went on and on through till morning. Nature at its best. Well done!
Thank you! 😊
Spectacular. I'm inspired now. Thanks for sharing!
Love to hear that! Thank you!
I was in park at a similar time as you I even wanted to start at Tim but route was closed so I went to different access point
Nice. Hope you enjoyed your trip!
Genial 🎉😂
33:45 Your forgot your camera! 😋

Amazing music and zen vibes! Love all your videos, thanks so much for all the effort you put into editing and producing them
Wow thank you so much Chris! I’m so glad to hear that you enjoyed the video. Cheers! 🍻
UA-cam: Bjorn Andreas Bull-Hansen
Love your videos
So glad to hear that Rob!
Tomorrow I'm off for 3 days on Crown Land not far from the park. Great country out there. Hoping to catch some brookies and maybe see a moose or two.
Awesome! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your adventure, Kev! Thank you for taking my wife and I along. You really captured this beautiful country. Cheers!
Thank you as always Dan! I'm glad you both enjoyed.
Vilken sjö var ni ?
The trip started and ended at Tim Lake in Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. I followed a river to Grassy Lake and Rosebary Lake.
The night sky was so incredibly beautiful it made me emotional... THEN the wolves. OMG! What an amazing experience! Wow. I can't imagine what it would be like to be there listening to that. What a magical experience that must have been. I would love to hear that one day. I would need nothing more in my life to make it complete. And then I slightly spoiled the dream by realising you were wrapped up cosy in your sleeping bag like the perfect wolf-size burrito snack...
It really was an incredible experience Louise. Probably the most special experience I've ever had out in the wild. But it also did get my heart racing a bit. As you noted, I was quite vulnerable laying out there like a burrito 😄
Great. 👍. Wonderful nature
Glad you enjoyed!
What if a grizzly comes to you in the midnight?
There are only black bears in this region, and I bring bear spray with me.
Super beautiful great video. I want to do an Algonquin trip so badly but am I beginner and have nobody to go with!
Thanks Kyle! I suggest trying a short solo trip. There are many lakes in Algonquin that are near an access point. Magnetawan, Hambone, Rain are examples. You will gradually gain experience and will be able to more comfortably venture further over time.
Another great video! Your passion for tripping always comes through in your videos. If you tou don't mind, what size is that green Osprey pack? I'm currently using a 100L+ pack and im considering getting something smaller for solo trips. Thanks
Thank you! My Osprey is and 85 Litre Aether AG. I've abused it for years and not a single issue with it.
@@kevinthewild thanks
Hello, buddy. I love your channel. I want to be your friend. Stay connected. I am waiting. Thank you.
Nice work Kev!
Thanks Brenda!
Tastic scenery, and those campsites are fantastic as well. Mannered great.!
Glad you enjoyed!
@@kevinthewild sure did, watching these videos makes me want to go camping more and more and getting out in the woods. I've been in a wheelchair due to an amputation for a year and a half now with kidney failure, it's tough for me to get out and do the things I used to do . Thank you and others for putting together good videos of your trips and camping adventures, canoeing and fishing, etc.
@@JohnBurdette-or7if I'm very sorry to hear about your health issues John. I do sincerely hope that you find a way to continue spending time in the outdoors in whatever manner you can. One of the main reasons I make these videos is to share the beauty of these wild places with those that may no longer be able to visit them. That will also be me someday - but at least I know that I will be able to relive these wonderful experiences through these videos when that day finally comes.
What's the animal at the end of the video?
That was an otter 🦦
Absolutely beautiful area to enjoy canoeing enjoyed watching your video
Glad you enjoyed it Gene!
Wao . Incredible. Amazing trip. Greetings from Panama. 🇵🇦. What about the bears 🐻 or wolfs?
Wow! Panama! I've encountered bears and wolves on my trips. We are not permitted to carry firearms in Provincial and National Parks here in Canada. The black bears and wolves here are normally afraid of humans, but I bring bear spray and a knife for protection.
Juju. I think is terrible. I practice bikepacking in my country. Im afraid of coyotes , jaguar and snake. But when you are outside is great. Sorry my bad English
@yurihuertavasquez9544 I would be afraid of Jaguars!!
Hi. I'm a new subscriber. I just came across your channel today. The pics you have at the beginning of day 4 are absolutely stunning. I can only imagine what it was like to see in person. Thanks for sharing your trip!
Yeah that was an incredible morning. Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the sub!
Nice to see another local guy exploring
Very god 💪
I'm not going to be long winded. What a great video. Really enjoyed every aspect of it.😊
Thank you! Glad you did :)
Great trip thanks for sharing! How many liters is your canoe pack?
Thank you! The Yellow Dry Bag is 115 litres. It’s made by MEC.
Did you start this trip from canoe lake?
Yes I did.
@@kevinthewild Awesome ty. How long was it from canoe lake to shippagew lake? Or did you stop at some other lake first?
I camped on McIntosh lake night one, then Shippagew on night two of this trip.
