Back in June 2024, I created one collage a day for the entire month. It helped to evolve my art practice. I decided to do it again for November with a few changes from last time. Since this month started on a Friday, I only completed 3 collages for this video. I give some tips on how to prepare for this daily practice. Thanks for watching! Great session Mia! Cheers! 🥰
Thanks, Lori!
Hi Mia! I am finally catching up on all the videos I have been missing in the last few weeks!! I really love your little collages! The gray scales have been interesting to see as well--they always give me new insights on how you are balancing the elements of the compositions. I especially liked #16 because the textures of the marks on the papers had an interesting harmony of their own that I didn't notice in the color version. Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers! 🥰😍
Thank you so much, Lori!
Impressive
Thank you!
These are great excercises for bigger things at least in my opinion. They are also nice in themselves!
I agree! Some of the collages from days 1-9 already feel like great starting points for larger works. Thanks, Annadora!
Fascinating Mia! Your explanations are both helpful and inspiring. Genuinely enjoy watching you work. ♥♥♥
Thank you so much, Paul!
I htnk the music detracts from the video........... rather would have natural back ground sounds
Thanks for watching the video and sharing your thoughts! I use music in non-narrated parts to keep the video flowing, but I’ll keep that in mind for future videos.
Terrific! I’m just getting into collage so interested in your approach. Cutting, great design and gray scale! Thx
I'm glad you found it interesting. Have fun exploring collage!
I found your video very interesting to watch. I was curious about the book you are painting in. Have you glued the pages together to make it thicker, or are you using single pages?
I didn't glue the pages together in this book because I'm using it as a sketchbook. If I was using it as art journal then I would probably glue at least two pages together. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for watching!
Looks like something I would enjoy. Thank you for making it look easy.
I'm happy to hear that. Have fun!
Mia I thoroughly enjoyed this video and watching you create. I randomly started something similar lately as I haven't had the time to properly paint. Out of frustration I sat down with my repurposed book and my stash of gel prints and random ephemera and just started cutting and pasting until the page was filled. There was such satisfaction that I thought, "what the heck... it fills time and is satisfying!" So I've continued. Now I must say I don't give it the thought that you do, but I will admit you are inspiring me to give it a bit more consideration in the future. I particularly admire how precise you are when crafting pieces towards completion. Well done. Thank you for sharing!!! ❤❤❤
I'm so happy to hear that you found time to create. I agree that it fills the time and is satisfying. It's your art practice so have fun with it. Each of us create differently because we are all unique. Keep going, Paul!
Absolutely love this! I definitely, definitely need to use my bleeding art tissue. xxx💖💖💖
Thanks, Christine! Have fun using your bleeding tissue. 🧡
@@miabloomdesigns I will thank you! xxx💖💖💖
Só interesting.. thank you
You’re welcome! I’m glad you found it interesting.
I love the collage with the figures and the gray scale of the final collage. I am always jealous of your tiny scrap bin and the challenges you give yourself when you use them. Nice work!! 🥰
Thanks so much, Lori! It's a fun challenge. You can use any type of scraps for these types of collages. I hope you will give it a try. 🧡
@@miabloomdesigns ❤👍✂🎨🖍😘
Using scraps cretes more scraps. The never-ending project! The one with L-shapes also has repeated circes, another unifying element.
So true about scraps creating more scraps! Good point about the repeating circles, Cleo.
Absolutely mesmerizing watching you create, anticipating every choice and move. All four were wonderful but my favourite was definitely the security envelopes with the bright contrasting paper - I think it was the horizontal composition. It was a reminder of how items you might discard become powerful artistic elements. Well done! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Paul!
I would love to see more of these please😊
I'm happy to hear that! I will definitely make another video using leftover scraps collages. It so fun to create these types of collages.
LOVED watching you create such amazing pieces with the scraps! Totally inspirational. Seeing the B/W photos demonstrating the value changes was a bonus. Be well! ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
I like the "found papers" aspect. I have "found papers" on my desk and elsewhere in the house.
I like your idea of using found papers on your desk and in your house.
coool vid!!
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing. I loved hearing your thought process as you were working.
You are so welcome, Helen!
Beautiful papers! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much, Patricia!
i tried your technique--it works!
That's wonderful to hear, Cynthia!
Lots of love from Arctic Norway 🥰🍀🌼🌸
Thank you!🧡
WOW! I don't know how I managed to miss this video until now! The painted canvases were great, really whimsical and playful. I really liked the collage contrasts and the black and white images were quite beautiful! I don't think I could pick a favorite, I liked them all! Thanks! 🥰
Thank you so much, Lori!
Love the color combinations you used on all three canvases
Thank you!
Nice.
Thank you!
I use the lid to a glass jar candle as a baron.
Great alternative!
Well done. Just a small correction. The first print is the intended print. Applying a second layer to dried paint left behind is a pick up prints. The ghost print us picking up what's left on the plate while it's still set from the intended print. (Without applying more paint. )
I appreciate the correction. I’ll make sure to clarify that in future videos. Thanks for the helpful feedback and for watching!
the second page reminded me of crazy patch in quilting
I can see that reference now in that collage!
Nice video Mia! There is a lot of energy in the works you created and I especially like the three and four collages. I really admire how you are always challenging yourself in some way! Thanks as always and Cheers! 🥰
Thank you, Lori! 🧡
I enjoyed watching the different processes. No matter which way you go, it looks like something you could just have fun with & not take too seriously. That's what sketchbooks are for after all, right? Lol
I agree that working in a sketchbook is for fun. I would add that included in that fun is exploring design ideas, different techniques and supplies. The reason I started this series is to show how I use my sketchbook and the different things I do in it. 🧡
Your papers are awesome!
Thank you, Diane!
Hi Mia! This is so great! I love how your palette seems to be influenced by the hues of the junk mail! I'll be looking at mine a bit differently now! Great fun and great work! Btw, have you seen the Brand 52 show?
Thanks, Laura! I haven't seen the Brand 22 show yet. I appreciate you reminding me that it's going on right now. I need to make time to visit it. Have you seen it? If you have, what are your thoughts?
@@miabloomdesigns it was one of the better shows in my opinion. My favorite interestingly enough was a watercolor still life of crumpled up junk mail! I think it ends in August so time is running out 😯
Good to hear, Laura. I'll plan on going either this week or next.
Absolutely fabulous!❤
Thank you, Barbara!
I love using junk mail as the foundation of collages. Sometimes then I paint, add another layer of different shapes with different positioning, then paint again...my favorite is security envelopes which also often appear in upper or top layers. Some of those prints are awesome. I like these collages. Isn't it good to do different things, to shake things up? Trying to challenge myself right now to use colors I really dislike, such as pastels...gotta catch up on some of your other videos from the past couple weeks. I've had a very (too) busy month and am looking forward to relaxing with your videos. ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing how you use junk mail, Kelly! I, too, like using security envelopes. I agree that it's good to try different things in our art practice. It helps as grow as artist.❤
You were fearless using the junk mail!! I have tried it but I don't like it. That could be that I haven't used it very often. Thanks for using the gray scale! It really helped to see the work without color and I agree with you that I liked the second one in gray scale better too. I wonder what might happen if you made a gray scale copy of it and then collaged over that with your papers? Maybe change the size too? Hmmm... Thanks for another great video! 🥰
Using junk mail isn't for everyone. I don't want it to seem like I'm promoting a brand. I try to cut it up so it's hard to read the company's name on the ad. That's a good suggestion about copying the second collage in greyscale. Or another thought would to use black and grey painted papers on top of the junk mail ground. I'm glad the greyscale is helpful. I'll try to remember to include it more often.
I repost all my junk mail back in the post box
I never thought to do that. Thanks for sharing, Kym!
Thanks so much Mia! This has been a great series and I enjoyed seeing your work expand a bit. I remember a while back you were talking about balancing Dark, Medium, and light colors in your art. You used your phone to show what that would look like in gray scale. Since you use a lot of bright colors and patterns, it was really helpful to see that in order to get a better understanding about what you meant. Would you consider doing that more often? When I was a photographer, I used gray scale filters when I was processing color prints. It was really helpful when making adjustments in the darkroom (analog days!!) both for color and balance. Take care--🥰
I'm glad you enjoyed this series, Lori. I made a note to include grayscale photos more often in my videos. It does help to see all three values. I, also, did photograph in the analog days. Wasn't it fun developing photos in a darkroom? I could spend hours in there.
@@miabloomdesigns Indeed! I loved it so much!
OMG, Mia, I wish I was as organized as you. 🥰 Beatiful work. Thank you for sharing.
I try being organized when filming my collage process. It helps to keep me focused and get the video done is a timely manner. When I'm creating outside of UA-cam, that's not always the case.😉 Thanks, Alain!
You’ve tried some very different compositions this week (❤27) and I’m looking forward to what you incorporate in ongoing work! Thanks for sharing your practice and explorations with us.
You're welcome, Karen! I'm looking over the ones that I don't use already in my art practice and deciding which ones to include.
Thank you!😊
You're welcome, Jerald!
Thank you!😊
You're welcome, Jerald!
I really enjoy and am inspired by these collage videos. You are very generous.
I appreciate your kind comment, Janet!
Brilliant Mia! A true mixed media melange!!!!
Thanks, Laura!
Love the 6-22 collage. Interesting in a surprising way - those last 2 dark value pieces accomplished so much
Thanks, Karen!
I love the idea of tracing a shape on the back of the collage paper and then cutting it out. I can’t wait to try this.!
Wonderful! Let me know how it works out for you.
I love your encouragement to just do it with the challenge of working with what you quickly grab. It’s so easy to start overanalyzing in art.❤❤
So true! I can overanalyze while creating art as well. I'm glad you're enjoying watching my videos.
You have so many great unique composition ideas ❤ I can’t wait to try them all!
That's great to hear!
I think I heard someone say that gloss medium makes the deli paper more transparent. I haven’t tried it yet.
I appreciate the suggestion. I'll give it a try!
