Love it!
This is very useful, thank you for sharing
I come from the area originally and I have also researched the ancient pre Roman history of the region. The name the inhabitants first called themselves were the Venetkens and this is the origin of the name. The pre Roman people were called Veniti and they seem to be a mixture of Italic and Celtic people and had a flourishing civilization based not on Venice itself but at Este near Padua where a huge number of graves and artefacts have been unearthed. They specialized in the raising of horses and their horses were prized even in the Greek world. By about the 300's BCE they were faced with the Roman expansion and eventually the whole culture caved in to Rome but this was not a particularly violent process unlike the story with the Celts and others.Places like Padua (Patavium) Verona, Altinum. Treviso eventually became prominent Roman cities.
Thank you, bout books: The stones of Venice, John Riskin; about films: The confort of strangers, Paul Schrader 1990.
I had the privilege to work with Robert at the centre for continuing education. Hard to accept that he is no longer with us. Articulate, witty and passionate about the arts. The light that burns bright burns fast. It was a privilege to know him.
This is one of my absolute favourite portraits. It’s simply incredible; somehow timeless. Incredible. I know he’s an important gentleman, but he could have removed his Apple earphones for the portrait sitting with Giovani Bellini. 🙂
I'm going to Al Codega next week. So this video is really helpful for me. Thank you bro!
Did you end up liking the hotel?
This is stupendous
What a truly lovely gentleman. A brilliant teacher. He is remembered with affection.

Just a shout to Artemesia, this was a much later work beyond her year of first recognition. As a Carravagist, her venue was selected. We own her earliest work, mostly unknown, but obviously the transitional size known from her. Thank you for your observations and understanding of her works.
