My son's still in school right now. I'm about to deregister him but I'm getting resources in place ready to go. We have been using a Anton which is free and covers lots of subjects. However I'm not sure how extensive it as just yet. My son does the maths obsessively, he will redo and redo the levels of he gets anything wrong. He really struggles with being perfect.

Thank you so much for sharing. ❤. Specially your in the UK. I am thinking of home schooling my daughter. She has autism and has been bullied in school. She was attending mainstream school. She has an education plan (EHCP). I feel confident home education is the best thing for her now. But worried about the what the local authority might say. PLEASE🙏 continue to share with us. I would like to know if anyone else child has EHCP. And now doing home schooling in UK, London.

Loved this video, we are still very early in our journey little man is only 4 in Feb, I was stressing a little how to teach him his letters ect but he's so not ready for it, am so glad I found this video with your advice and waiting until they are older. I guess this is one of the reasons we do decide to home ed as we can go with their flow and what works for them. Thank you,

We home-ed year round. When we go on holidays we take activities with us and/or buy some bits whilst out to mirror our regular tasks which are lighter and related to activities we're going whilst away. I'm having my 4th within weeks and I'm trying to get the bits each child struggles with more done now, so partner can have some easier bits to start with whilst I'm busy with newborn (This bloody star booked 12 weeks off work, which should end right when annual year starts and he's booking more time off when it does!!) And ease everyone into the change without breaking routine. They even usually like to do light activities on birthdays and celebrations! Daily activities and routine also helps their brains to hold the information, vs the long breaks a school has when kids come back struggling to remember what they learned. :)

We took summer off last year (our first year of home education), and it was terrible. We struggled with the lack of routine, and the kids argued like crazy. We were really glad to get back to it in September. I won't be doing that again! 😂

Great video. Me and my wife have made the decision to derigester our 2 girls from January next year (so in the next 3 wks after Christmas). We've been researching this for around 6 months now and as we're fortunate enough where my wife is at home, she will school them for the majority while I'll be chipping in in the afternoon. Got to admit though; We are both concerned with the local council making their enquiries and this current government potentially blocking home education in the future.

Also a neurodivergent home-ed Pagan household here. ❤️ Expecting my 4th within literally weeks (Pre-term risk, induction date is 19th of Jan, literally the day after youngest turns 4! Older 2 are 7 and 5). We fortunately knew my kiddos are neurodivergent before we started; oldest was showing very clear signs from 3, some grey area signs from infancy. Younger 2 are being monitored for ADHD, their dad is on the wait list and I'm waiting for an ASD diagnosis. So as soon as we started home-ed I knew we needed a routine to run like clockwork. I have 26 alarms with different sounds to mark the start of something different (Some for transition warnings too). We do a 2-mile walk every morning (When I'm not having heart issues or a baby making me physically unable to move without literally crying from pain. 😅, when we don't do the walk we use the indoor trampoline for about 1hr where they take turns and whoever isn't on bounces around the room. 😂), and most of our learning is child-lead or play-based. Play-dough with fun tasks (One week we had to make one of the obstacles from Bear Hunt each day to practice fine motor skills in a fun-but-structured way). Then drawing/colouring. Then work sheets or flash cards. Then play time. Then they help with lunch. We do board games and stories after that. Then they do some Reading Eggs lessons and get the rest of the day 'off'. Which usually means pretend play, counting, world building, making stories, putting on plays, blocks, design and drill toys, and some of our books from our home-library (I'm raising feirce book-dragons here!). They know via natural curiosity the science of where babies come from and the correct names for things. Ask about history, cultures and religion. Are CONSTANTLY asking questions about things they see when we do our walks. And I always either answer or make a note for us to learn it ASAP when we're finished with what we're doing. Oldest gets DLA which they opt to use on Kiwi Crates for themselves and the siblings to share so we do those on the weekends and everyone gets involved with each others boxes. Middle is considered to be behind by about 1yr (As confirmed by her most recent assessment regarding the neurodivergence), and 3 is in some things but advanced in others. Oldest has always been about 2yrs ahead. They all help each other out with things the other struggles with and encorage each other which is beautiful to see. They feed each others thirst for learning often too. Given everyone is neurodivergent though we often have a lot of fights or melt-downs if someone makes the wrong noises, if the weather is 'wrong' so dressing appropriately causes sensory issues or for other things. It can make it feel like I'm missing things or not doing a decent enough job. Videos like this give me something to look at instead of just wallowing in mum-guilt. Actionable things. "Am I doing these things? Would doing them this way instead improve things?" Vs just "Everything is hard and I feel like we're getting nowhere". I think one of the most important steps I've found with home-ed that needs to be taken is to make a habit of stopping and looking at it all. Then asking "Are they happy, healthy and open to learning? Are they ready to be learning these things or is it perhaps a bit too soon for this child? Are they learning in general (The answer is almost always yes!)" And suddenly, it feels a lot more like it's going right.

Ollies chosen mythical creatures (Loch Ness, bigfoot & yeti ) human body, animals around the world, eras through time especially ice age and stone age and I've managed to convince him to do the wheel of the year. Ollie insists he can't read but does read. He's a total book worm. He just hates reading out loud. He goes to bed early at 6.30 so he can read by himself in bed. We tried for yrs phonics and like you said he just didn't get Blending and still doesn't. As soon as I went to a site program he got it straight away. I find home ed has got easier mostly because I feel more like I believe in myself. We have found our people at our group we run and that's been a cherry on the cake this year.

I'm thrilled to hear that reading, maths, and nature study were mainly focused on at age 6 with your youngest. I have lately felt like we aren't doing enough for my son's home education even though I do those and also follow his interests daily/weekly, such as how the body works/particularly animals. I deregistered my son from school at the end of Reception due to his severe struggle with self-esteem and meltdowns, persistently losing his break times due to these, or refusing to do his writing. We suspect he has ASD possibly with a PDA profile/ADHD. He has recently been accepted onto the neurodevelopmental pathway and is no longer reluctant to do his work or learn how to read at his pace. Your project-based home-ed curriculum looks fantastic and is something that would keep him entertained once I feel that he can hold his attention a bit longer as he also has a global development delay of 12-18 months. I have been watching your videos here on UA-cam for a few years since he was a baby. Your knowledge and videos definitely helped me to know the laws etc and that deregistering was right for my son. It is not something that is widely publicized for parents and many of my friends have been shocked at how easy it was for me to do this and that it is even an option. Thank you for continuing to share your journey!

@@AdventureAllTheWay You're welcome, you deserve it. I would love that to be an option to purchase, as he isn't able to hold his attention on large projects or large pieces of writing yet. Although once his DLA comes through, hopefully by January I was considering booking in for a curriculum to suit him as I loved the free one month of project-based learning and how it was broken down into days and subjects 🤩

We don't have a religion or faith and I personally never have(which I get so much back lash from my whole life) however I've always been so interested in all faiths and religions. Ollies the same and asked for my next unit study I make to be religion around the world. I've got so many ideas for it but I need to pop it all down and actually start it. Ollie the last couple of months had the job of putting the recycling away in the right bit. But I think he should have more jobs but not sure what. Ollies not sporty either but he loves being in the garden, farm, park woods etc. The other week I fell off the chair and hurt myself ollie came straight into me then got my phone and water bottle and asked if he needed to shout next door. We've never spoke about emergencies and what to do. I was so impressed his reaction. Lucky I was OK but I need to talk to him more about it.

My sons type 1 diabetic he only went to 6 sessions of school before I pulled him out. I knew before that it wouldn't work but I just wanted to try to know for sure in my head. He gets days that he's exhausted because of it and they basically said that's not him ill you still send him in. I went nuts I was like no if he's not right he's not doing anything. My why is he can't sit still for a second and gets distracted in a sec and I didn't want him to be the naughty child like I was. I was always told she can't focus, too chatty, can't keep still etc and I knew all teachers hated me and I just didn't want that for him

I described the HE community as a family to a new home educator recently. If they come for you, they come for us all. If you need us, call, we'll be there. 🥰
