    As long as the speaker isn't distorting you are safe with a guitar amp. You aren't going to get the best tone, but it is safe. I would recommend looking for one of the old Peavey 20W bass practice amps - cheap as chips these days and near indestructible!

    I'm thinking about getting this bass and the first thing that I would do is to string it with a set of flatwound bass strings by Fender or La Bella. Smooth to the touch and the sound. Roundwound strings are too noisy and squeaky when moving your fingers up and down the neck, plus I feel that they don't wear your fingers out and you can play longer and effortlessly. P.S.- I noticed that you have a Fender baseball cap and a Vans t-shirt on. Do you have any more advertising space available and how much would it CO$T$ !!!???

    • @RockerProf
      @RockerProf Рік тому

      I have five short scale basses, and three of them are strung with short-scale flatwounds, one is strung with short-scale nylon tapewounds, and one is strung with short-scale round wounds. For the flatwounds I have used LaBella, D'Addario, and GHS. I would characterize the D'Addarios as the most bright for flatwounds and LaBella as the most thumpy. Just one word of caution: if you do get new flatwounds for it, be sure that you get ones that are for a short scale because the tapering to the tuning post must be correct.

    • @jameslanclos568
      @jameslanclos568 Рік тому

      @@RockerProf I did get a short scale bass after I made that comment, but not this one. I got an ebony Gibson SG Standard Electric bass. Ever since I used a borrowed one at a gig, I wanted one, I fell in love! It was $2 G's !!! Initially I didn't want to spend that much, but I thought about it and decided that if I didn't get it, that I would regret it later. I just love it. I'm still honey mooning with it !!! I love how the Ibanez Mikro bass comes in a bunch of colors. After I finish with the payments on the Gibson bass, I still might get the Ibanez. I just had another "look-see" at it !!!

    I bought one of these for my Daughter and couldn’t believe how good it was. Super easy to play and capable of some great tone. I even gigged with it and it performed admirably. At $179 it’s not just a “good for the money” bass, it’s a good bass period.

  • @radima263
    @radima263 2 роки тому

    Is this recommended for a serious playing? I'm starting a band with my good buddies, and we agreed to take things seriously. The bassist is a guitarist-turn-to-bassist who struggled to reach the frets of a bass.. Will this be good & okay for gigging (or even professional use) after component upgrades?

  • @mojoefelix
    @mojoefelix 2 роки тому

    The tone sounds annoyingly trebly because you have turned the tone control all the way to teble. But this is a bass, so I why not adjust the tone control toward the bass instead of treble, so it sounds like a bass.

      Could also be the bridge pickup is all the way up, when I use my son's Mikro if I'm using the bridge pickup I only turn it up to 2 or 3 not to mention he said he doesn't have a bass amp and even if he did he's just recording the room.... I would DI it. I bought a Steve Harris Tech21 pedal and recorded direct and WOW

    I have a GSRM20 with chrome hardware, and I'm crazy about it. I have yet to set it up, but still reach for it when I feel like playing a bass. Like you, I'm primarily a guitarist; a short scale bass is the way to go in this situation. I have a suggestion for you: Try finding a DigiTech BP355 on the used gear market. These digital bass processors give a huge amount of bang for the buck! I don't have a bass amp myself, but I hardly ever use the one guitar amp I own since I have THREE (count 'em!) guitar processors and can play them all through my computer's speaker system. If you have a computer, you can probably still get DigiTech's editor/librarian software. This is what I think is the best way to get your own unique sounds from your BP. If you'd prefer a more modern unit, I'm sure that you can find something to fit a modest budget. Good luck, and I also think it's great that your son wants to learn bass too. Remember how happy Eddie Van Halen was to perform with his son. Something cool like that might be in store for you!

    I have the GSRM20TR and I love it. Lots of fun to play. Nice break from the big bass. From what I understand you can use the regular strings but it can produce an odd sound. There is a name for it but I can't recall at the moment. Something like when you hit one string it will sound like there are two strings and one is out of tune. I'm no expert. Just going by what I have read.

    Hey thanks for doing this video, great sounding ambient. I'm looking to pick up a bass to dabble with droney ambient soundscapes running through efx pedals etc. Coming from a synth and guitar background, not really sure which bass to start with. These mikros certainly caught my eye though, and lots of people seem to love them. I'm assuming you would recommend one too? Any thoughts on a mikro vs longer scale for ambient playing? EDIT: Checking out your review of this bass as well.

    • @creatine361

      Thanks! Being that its a short scale bass, makes it feel more comfortable to me. I've only played a standard size bass a couple times, but I recall it was quite a reach up the neck. As far as ambient type of music, I've only been playing it for a short time. I've been dabbling a little with it. I've made a couple ambient songs on my guitar and I use it to sleep at night. You should check out Bias FX2, it has some pretty cool ambient Efx's. There's also some cool free VST plugins that I've been using. One that comes to mind, is called Valhalla DSP. They have a free one that's pretty good. Let me know if you have any questions, on Efx etc. I'll be happy to help.

    • @1t183
      @1t183 3 роки тому

      ok cool I will have to check out the Bias software. From the sounds and atmosphere you are getting in this video, it seems like it will be my cup of tea for sure. Regarding the valhalla dsp, I've heard some of their supermassive freebie once on a Korg Volca video and it sounded great. I will have to grab that too. I've always heard good things about the valhalla smimmer de;ay/reverb. so many good things at our disposal these days. Have fun with the ambient exploration and thanks again.

    I’ll never understand why some people making a video for UA-cam put their phone camera in the portrait position instead of the landscape position. If ya shoot in landscape it will fill the entire screen and everyone can see your bass,,, instead we are looking at a tiny vertical strip of video in the middle of huge black bars on each side. Achieving landscape mode can be done by simply putting your phone in a “horizontal” position while filming. Anyhow, the Ibanez Mikro bass’s are great, I own several, that’s why I stumbled upon your tiny vertical video strip.

    • @creatine361
      @creatine361 3 роки тому

      Actually I did the video in portrait mode because I believe it’s the only way I could do the video as a short. This is my first bass and I’m loving it. Feels very comfortable to play.
